ESPN's Jay Williams to Corey Sanders...

It is funny that he wrote that....Corey's game really reminds me of JayWill's game. Corey needs that 15-20 lbs of muscle that JWill put on whule at Duke...and that will help him get his shot off every time clean in the paint

Williams was a far better out side shooter but they both have great cross over dribbles in breaking down the defender.Sanders needs to get stronger and work on his out side shot to further refine his game.Williams had the advantage of playing at Duke with other high school all americans while Sanders plays with a squad full of lower level talent.

Corey has great shooting form from the waist up, no reason why he can't become a consistently good outside shooter. There are times when he gets lazy and flips it up without using his legs. Same with his free throw shooting, his approach is to rush it up. With his form, no reason why he can't be an 80% plus guy.
He does need to get a little stronger and learn to play under control. He doesn't have many limitations but he has to accept the ones he has.

I loved Williams' game...wow was his college game incredible...I always wondered how good he would be as a pro...a shame we never really had a chance to find out.

Talk about one that got away.

Interesting tidbit about him wanting to be part of our staff...hmmmm

JWill is very supportive of Rutgers and thinks they are a sleeping giant. He WANTED to come to Rutgers - but was turned off by Bannon's free throw event. Makes me soooo mad.

Would be a great get, hiring a duke assistant could lead to this... Jeff capel perhaps, Jon scheyer and Nate James aren't ready yet

Not all that much lower.
Or not a cut at all. Journalists and on-air folks don't make as much as people typically think they make. The big names make good or great money, but my guess is that the majority make way under 100k.

One of the most asinine events ever. Just mind-boggling.

Jay Williams played ferociously...high octane. Corey needs to amp up his intensity level and get stronger as others mentioned.

Heard rumblings that Williams would be interested in joining the new staff in an assistant role. No idea how credible but heard this before he even wrote that tweet.
He is interested in coaching at this level. I spoke to him. No bs. He loves Corey's game too

not what I personally heard him say when he gave a speech to my company last year. well, he may very well have been turned off by it but that is not the reason he didn't come to RU. And when he was waiting to come on stage and standing 10 feet from me I even asked him "what happened with Rutgers?" to which he responded after a chuckle.."I've got a good story on that"... but didn't really get into it and only said something along the lines of folks not thinking he was good enough to play D1 ball. HIS words...

Well, certainly not "way under 100k". Most ESPN talent is paid on a "per appearance" basis, but you can turn that into a pretty nice living. Then again, basketball is seasonal, so his options may be more limited annually.

I believe he is interested but cautious about the recruiting aspect of the job.

That's a problem.

JWill was convinced that he was an elite talent by his junior year of HS, although the national recognition was not yet there. He was tracking to RU but then hit a big camp (Nike I believe) and destroyed it. Name best player at the camp. Within a couple months he was headed to Duke. I've never heard that Bannon was a factor.

Nope...not the way I heard it. His MOTHER made the decision by asking a rhetorical question:

Do you want to go to Rutgers.....or have me help with your college tuition / expenses?

It's anazing what people will stoop to on this board . News of Brannon's free throw incident broke when Williams was already signed for duke . So keep making stuff up . Story broke when a reporter called earl johnson in the summer to ask why he was transferring .
Williams didn't go to Rutgers because duke offered . Not sure if duke gave got his parents a job like they did for Chris Duhon around the same time.

The lawsuit was filed in '99. The free throws occurred in '97. Word circulated way before the lawsuit. And no, his parents didn't get jobs from Duke. However, THEY were the ones turned off by the free throw incident.

So the strip incident occurred within bannon's first few months on the job , but no recruit except Jason Williams knew about it ? And bannon still coached 4 seasons after that ?

The way I heard it, Jay was all-RU. Had given a silent verbal to Bannon and was jazzed about staying home and playing with his good buddy Dahntay. Then when Duke offered his parents "forced" him to visit. I even heard he cried on the way down, but that's pretty over-the-top inside info that may or may not be true. Either way, word is he was against it and all-RU but was forced to visit and once there, was TOTALLY blown away by Coach K and staff, the facilities, etc. It was all she wrote.

Side note, I've met him a couple of times. He is as nice as they come. Just a real good dude, always smiling. I would welcome him with open arms. On the court he was a pitbull of a player. Sick game. I'm only 39 but I've watched and seen a LOT of ball. As far as college players go, he makes my top 5. He was a blur, had a solid frame, could stop on a dime and pull up from 3 or mid, could drive, dish. He was a total guard. Score and distribute. And really had a nice extra gear.

P.S. DJ's junior year at Duke, which was also Jay's JR. year due to DJ sitting from transfer, they also started Duhon, Battier and Boozer. How that team didn't have a deeper tourney run is a mystery and a real knock on an otherwise stellar Coach K coaching career. Who knows maybe it was chemistry or depth issues but that is a LOT of starting 5 talent.

It's amazing the ignorance of some of the people on this board. Look it up.

Laettner, Bias, Tim Duncan, Larry Johnson. Heck Bobby Hurley and Kenyon Martin
Several of the BE players I saw early in our years as members...Iverson, Ray Allen...hell Kemba Walker may have been as impressive.
