Eugene Omoruyi-Eligible in 2016-Commits to Rutgers

Kid was getting calls from Texas and Florida once RU did the work on his transcripts, Marquette was in all along, as were a variety of mids.

This was the addition I was referring to in a previous thread. He's been on our radar in a serious way since he got a qualifying SAT score.

Very happy to add size, talent and desire at this point in the process. Excellent get in my opinion...

Is Pikiell thinking of two ? Maybe a 611" Big man currently on campus ?

None of those schools offered him. Someone said above he gets us to 500. That is ridiculous. Next year's class is a more important barometer of recruiting as the new staff will have a full year but these recruits are not close to B1G talent.

As a player added in August that is eligible this year, Omoruyi is beyond what anyone could have reasonably hoped for. A grand slam home run. A frosh that does not start will not mean the difference of three or four wins. So what. There is reason to celebrate and you're pissin and moaning.

I feel the same way. Pikiell has a way of having his guys go after strong players late. I think he helps on the defensive end whenever he is in. He is also pretty strong close to the basket. Efficient.

He led his team in points scored and second in rebounding. Pikiell likes rebounders.

Pikiell has ben consistent in saying that he will not add someone to just fill the bench. Rather thayt person must be capable of competing in the Big Ten. I trust Pikiell and Brandin Knight in their ability to identify talent.......

I sure hope we get a quick buzz in early November for our team. We need to bring back the enthusiasm of old and I know Pikiell and his staff are working extremely hard and they as well as us want our team to get better as quickly as possible. Hopefully we can get a decent crowd for every game from our first game to our very last game no matter who we are playing. I know I can't wait to see our new team under our new coaching staff. This is an exciting time for me and I hope many others.

There is no NLI, because we're not in a NLI signing period. He would sign financial aid paperwork and enroll. If he is fully qualified, and I have no reason to believe that he is not, then he would be good to go.
According to the article on the other board, academics were a priority for him and his family. He comes from a family of honors students and has 3 medical doctors among his relatives. So I doubt that qualifying academically will be an issue. Sounds like a solid person.

While he could be a solid person and have academics as a priority, it is possible to still have eligibility issues.

Sounds like Eugene should be fine.

Actually Marquette offered in February and USC offered in September.

Those that think he will not help in 2016 obviously did not watch a game last year. Greg Lewis drained his knee every three days because there was no backup for him on the team. When the team caught the flu bug we had four scholarship players healthy for the Purdue game. We needed a kid that can play a couple minutes a game and a little more in short streaches when we are banged up. I wont even even talk about how we can play more aggressively knowing there is someone on the bench in case of early foul trouble. He will add wins to this team.

If we get the big kid from Baylor all of the sudden we have our ships filled through 2017-2018....and are recruiting Class 0f 2018 for a year on a level playing field with everyone else...

If there is ever a year to make a major turnaround....this would be it...

There will likely be attrition so we will continue recruiting for 2017. The staff clearly wants another guard.

I am not a troll, just bringing you guys a little dose of reality. Claiming this guy will get us to .500 is ridiculous. Reality is that he is a good August get for Siena, not a B1G team. You all need to prepare yourselves for the upcoming season, there is no reason to be optimistic about it. We will see who is right. Have a good summer, sorry I do not spend an inordinate amount of time posting on a message board to impress some of you.

The kid from Baylor is immediately eligible and has 1 year to play. I believe if he wants to play a second year for RU, he would need to apply to NCAA for the 6th year of eligibility.

As I said on the RT...

If we start to play smart, competitively and the games become "fun" again, watch how quickly the RAC becomes "The RAC" again.

Double you don't know shit lol.. How about you wait to see how this kid does in practice. Foreman was a four star and hasnt had any impact yet..

Doubleflyer seems like a troll to me. 22 posts in 6 years.
Some just like to look at everything in a negative light,Doubleflye might fit into that category .Just be happy it doesn't post more , troll or not.

If I dont know shyt then neither do the people stating he will get us to .500 and how he is a good August get. I guess only those who toe the line know what they are talking about. We will be lucky if this head coach gets us to .500 in 3 years no less this year. Reality.

First thing.....You have NO idea of every school that may or not have offered. The only way anyone ever knows is if it's self reported by recruits and/or those close them or the Coaches. There are no databases where schools are required to enter offers....

Once again Nostradamus, you have NO idea of the interest level or actual offers or how well a full roster of healthy players will perform.

Just to note...we could have gotten to .500 this year without him....if we got real, real, lucky with injuries. You obviously cannot count on that just about every team has kids that get banged up from time to time. With him it gives us an extra player that lets us ride out some of the injuries and doesn't gas the rest of the players.

You could argue that Omoruyi is a better prospect recruit/player than Bullock, but because there wasn't any buildup, there wasn't a full fledged media competition known with other schools for the player and he's not local and so far off the radar, that he must not be good or worthy of a 'ship.

Even as a mid major level prospect today, this player is almost certain to be better than the alternative of a walk-on, some of the prior recruits etc.

I am rolling with Brandin Knight, Karl Hobbs and Pikiell recruiting along with Shoes Vetrone mixed in with Jay Young more than any recent staff.....the assistant coaches are compensated at a level not yet heard or ever seen at this school and have a strong track record of success....it doesn't mean they will hit on every recruit, but we have put pieces in place and at some point, we have to trust the process.

I read 7 2 wing span. Could be false, but just what I read on the net. He can battle downlow, and pass really well. He also rebounds very well. He has room for improvement in the turnover and foul catagory, which are big factors in how we win. He can block well, but has to limit fouls.
First thing i noticed....enormous wing span.....LONG ARMS..

Yes the staff of knight Hobbs and Jay can't be trusted...again, you're full of shit.

We don't need to prepare for shit. This is just a place to hang out and talk about the team. If you are a Rutgers fan, and are convinced its a lost cause, I am not sure why you even spend the time you do posting here. It would be pretty pointless if we all had your point of view and just spent all day talking about how much everything sucks. If I felt like that I wouldn't check these boards.

You have really jumped on the .500 comment as being the ridiculous part of this thread. I see where you are saying the new recruit doesn't move the needle in conference play. That may be true, but that is not the difference in getting to .500. .500 is still not very good, and we do not play a difficult OOC schedule. Simply adding depth and filling out the roster with MM prospects could be enough to get this team to .500. Not a guarantee, but not the ridiculous comment you make it out to be.

Oh, and don't tell us what the "reality" is. That implies you know something about any of this. You have your guess on how this will work out. If you want to guess this recruit can't play, that's your prerogative. But don't state it as a fact.

All we can do. The commitment to building our best staff in god knows how long is enough for me to just trust the process and hope for the best.

Doubleflyer wants to be able to say I told you so if he is right and be off the grid if he is wrong. The kids coming in seem solid, as players and as people. No cement heads.

Playing against Oak Hill
Great strength. Uses that wingspan. Nice court vision. Very good in the paint, but not a slasher, not a first step guy. A little out of position or ocassionally lost on D. No good from the free throw. Played with a talented group. Physical without dumb fouls. Good motor. Not great speed. For the season he led Orangeville in points but not rebounds or blocks. He is a work in process. Definitely needs to learn defense on the next level. Still learning the game so he has tremendous upside. Yes he is a D1 player. Yes he can play in the B1G. Very likable.

Doubleflyer: You don't think that for this team an August pickup of this kid is a really good get?
