Eugene was our 3rd best option at the 4 and he was scared

this is a plain and simple fact. Yeboah’s game is much more versatile and allows us to spread the floor more but as I posted here about a month ago, Ron has been just absolutely taking eugene behind the woodshed in practice lately. Completelyyyyy doggin eugene, embarassing him, making him look like hes a freshman again on the offensive and defensive end.

This transfer boils down to eugene probably seeing the writing on the wall and being scared that deep down inside he realized he’s the 3rd best option this team has at the 4 and he was best served as a role player on a team like this

Kyk I wrote this in another thread , but how was Eugene’s chemistry with the other guys on the team ? Obviously on the court he was a bit of a ball stopper but was also a warrior. Do you think the guys are sad to see him go or was he kind of an outcast on the team

he butted heads with a lot of the younger players but just normal stuff that happens in the course of a growing program, nothing out of the ordinary. But I'm telling you, Ron has been embarassing eugene on the court this off-season and with the addition of Yeboah I truly think Eugene was scared he was going to get less minutes like deshawn did at the end of 2017. You guys are gonna see Ron next year and see OH. MY. GOD. I made a thread weeks ago about ron having the potential to be the best RU bball player ever and I'm sticking to it. I talked with someone who was at an open run Ron played in the other night with all high level local d1 guys home from school and this guy told me that Ron wasn't even trying and was just effortlessly dominating. Pulling up from 3, catch and shoot from 3, transition, finishing around the rim, mid-range. He was just dummy'ing guys

Here is my legit question

First off ...let me preface this ...I think Harper is our four for 20-21 and 21-22. Been saying that for a while

But here is the question. How will he match up defensively and on the board in 10-20 minutes a game against the 6’9 260 lb power forward in the big ten. Some big ten teams have two bigs still.

Having his way with Eugene is one thing as they are similar height ...how well does he defend and rebounding against opposing centers and power forward is the question we won’t know until several game in to the season next year

Was this the run that Ron had on his Instagram ? The one at Roselle Catholic ? Looked like Paul night had been there too . Looked like he was pulling up from all over the place there too .

On the flip side if a team is dumb enough to have a 6’9 260 guy try to guard Ron, good luck lol.

I gotta say, Kyk's reasoning on this is by far the most logical explanation I've seen for Eugene's sudden departure.

Nothing else I've heard makes much sense at all. But this certainly does.

Wait a second. It’s apparent now that Eugene was not going to play this upcoming season anyway. Next year Yeboah is gone and Harper is the only guy who can play the 4, and will probably play minutes at the 3. Carter can’t guard the college 4 man. Myles is a true college 5. At the level we are recruiting I can’t imagine a freshman would be better than having Eugene.

Kyk assuredly doesn't need anyone's endorsement, he makes his points clear and catches a lot of heat at times.....but I can't imagine how much more responsibility and work Harper has put in since the season ended and how that now will translate with a little larger role.

The open run stuff is clear as day, there's no debate on where Harper can go in the next 2 years with his upside. I won't add what I've heard about Caleb and Mulcahy, but both are adding layers to their games and factor in larger now next year.

Question was where Shaq Carter was going to find minutes....now we certainly know.

Still now thin up front.Yeboahs comming off a significant injury.

He sprained his knee mid season. It's an injury that isn't hard to come back from at all. He has way more than enough time to get back to 100%. A dislocated knee cap is a whole nother animal. I'm a PT.
Hes fine, he ran pick up with the guys for hours today

Saying EO isn’t that good is so freaking beyond the pale. 24 hours ago we were all in love with the guy. The magnitude of his loss can’t be overstated.
His best role this year wouldve been playing 18-20 minutes off the bench and i think he realized that and didnt like it. Would it be nice to have him? Sure. But we should still dance without him

Yep, he went down after 3 min against Quinnipiac on 12/22, then missed their next game on 12/29 at Northern Iowa. He came back on 1/5 with a knee brace that he wore for several games, and definitely had an offensive slump through the middle of the season before bouncing back toward the end.

Really? Because his last 10 games he averaged well over 30 mins a night and over 15ppg

You're saying our best player last year would come off the bench? I just don't know about that. I think he would start.

He would start because pike loved him, but he wouldnt be deservedly so. Yeboah and ron are better

In the 13 games prior to the injury, he was: 32.3 min, 20.0 pts (.398 3P%, .836 FT%), 7.3 rb
In the 11 games after returning from his injury, he was: 32.8 min, 14.1 pts (.224 3P%, .625 FT%), 8.5 rb
In the last 7 games of the season, he was: 33.8 min, 19.0 pts (.333 3P%, .840 FT%), 7.5 rb

I just don't think Harper is a 4. He might be our best player this coming year but he's not someone who's going to bruise it with big ten power forwards.

You realize harper is bigger than eugene right? Eugene and harper are both 6’5 despite what theyre listed as. Harper just has a quarter or two on gene

Harper picked up a lot of fouls at the three. What’s going to happen when he’s matched up against bigger players? Does he even want to be getting time at the 4 at 6-5? All we hear about every 6–9 recruit is that he wants to play wing but the smaller Harper’s going to want to do the opposite?

Wore a brace part of year, did he wind up with surgery?

Nothing I read on the SB board that indicated he had surgery. There was a long-ish holiday layover and he missed one game, then came back with a hard brace for several games, then played the rest of the year without it. Pretty sure it was just rest and rehab.

They may be around the same size but their skill set is pretty different. Harper is a wing and can be a star on the wing. You put him at the 4 and you're not getting the most out of him. Sure he can play power forward but that's not his ideal spot and he should only be there very limited amounts of time.

Bro.... Eugene has a bad knee, a really bad knee. Saying he may have struggled guarding a 2/3 like Harper is not some amazing insight. Any idiot could reach that conclusion.

He was scared.....sure ! Please stop with this ridiculous spin now that he has decided to transfer.

This I can agree with about EO being good because he was a major asset that was sorely needed on the floor last year.

But I have two points to make speculating how his loss might be as bad as some feel it will be
1)As for "The magnitude of his loss" every college program loses players every year and some are thought to be irreplaceable by their fans. But they usually are ( unless superstar types) and Eugene's loss should be no exception

Losing EO's hurting the team's ability to improve from last year could be true, but the players coming back and those new to the rotation might just offset Eugene's loss and become irreplaceable in our minds before the end of the 2019-20 season.

2) His knee might need to be taken care of before he can play as effectively as he should.
Can't say one way or another because I'm only speculating what could happen , just like some speculate his loss means disaster for the program next year.

Who made this comment on May 2nd in the projected minutes thread? All of a sudden he transfers and he's a Bum.

Young- 24
Mulcahy- 15
McConnell- 16
Harper- 24
Mathis- 18
Geo- 23
Eugene- 25
Yeboah- 24
Carter- 4
Duke- 4
Myles J- 23
Kiss- Reserve

I think we'll see a ton of lineups where we have our front court players as just Yeboah and Eugene. In lineups like that we have the ability to 2-2-1 press and then set up a zone with the length that we'll have with a lineup of lets say Mulcahy-Geo-Harper-Yeboah-Eugene

Not saying you're wrong, but I saw Harper in a team scrimmage and he was taking the same no arc three that he was taking during the season. RH is certainly a more complete player than EO, and no one on this team will ever even approach "Phil the Thrill."

Please add what you heard about Caleb and Mulcahy :)

Carter is the biggest winner on an individual level of EO leaving
