Eugene was our 3rd best option at the 4 and he was scared

Saying EO isn’t that good is so freaking beyond the pale. 24 hours ago we were all in love with the guy. Total warrior. The magnitude of his loss can’t be overstated.

Of course it can be overstated, just like it can be understated.

this is a plain and simple fact. Yeboah’s game is much more versatile and allows us to spread the floor more but as I posted here about a month ago, Ron has been just absolutely taking eugene behind the woodshed in practice lately. Completelyyyyy doggin eugene, embarassing him, making him look like hes a freshman again on the offensive and defensive end.

This transfer boils down to eugene probably seeing the writing on the wall and being scared that deep down inside he realized he’s the 3rd best option this team has at the 4 and he was best served as a role player on a team like this
In the running for your dumbest post ever. First and foremost, your thread title is absolutely, unequivocally, inarguably an opinion, not a fact. If you can't see that you need some serious help. It's possible a hobbled Eugene is our third best PF option, but he was our best option last year, especially when healthy, so to assume Harper and Y would be better than a healthy EO at the 4 is conjecture at best.

...but EO is not healthy. Have you followed any of the threads? So you're essentially agreeing with kyk lol. What an odd post. Rip him and agree the next sentence. Weird

It's really easy to imagine a hobbled EO not being better than Yeboah as well as Harper coming into his own and working EO in the off season. It sounds like a bolder statement than it really is

His post didn't say anything about EO's health, plus, unless you're EO's doc, we don't know that EO has to have surgery in order to play at a high level.

I don't know if he would have been the 3rd best option and I don't think anyone can know that. But if anyone watched EO on offense last year and thought he was our best player on that end, I just don't know what you were watching. Way too many 3-11 type nights for my taste, especially for a "big." Now, on the defensive end (When healthy-I know, we've already covered that), he will absolutely be missed. I have no idea who is guarding that position now. As far as being a gritty leader, I can see Montez stepping right into that role. We also have Harper and Geo who seem to be taking on more leadership roles.
So, we'll see. I think it's probably prudent to wait and see if/when we bring in another player to take the roster spot.

This smacks of a sour grapes post-departure rationalization. I don't care about off-season practices. Eugene never played scared and was arguably our best player last year. When he missed time, we LOST. His departure will hurt anyway you want to spin it.

So, if we balance that out we are officially at stated!

Another way to look at this is that if he were just injured and out for the year or done for his career would the sky still be falling? I would think not. Yeah, it may suck, but next man up.

I encourage you to watch gimpy EO get dummy’d all game here

Well yeah but the general thinking is that he would be more or less recovered, the way he was for the start of last season.
Would he have been though? Repeat knee injuries and you might lose a step and some explosion and not be the same level athlete

That was the prevailing expectation until he decided to transfer. Now that he's not going to play for Rutgers, though, some people want to say those grapes are sour anyway.
The irony here is that you could also make the same type of argument that those expecting EO at full health this year were just being unrelealistic fans seeing through Scarlet colored glasses

I wish EO would have stayed. I'm happier we have Yeboah. His tape looks legit and he obviously has a great understanding of Pike's offense having been with him for 4 years.

It's in no way surprising, though, that the prevailing narrative of the board shifted from positive to negative immediately after that instagram post.

Terrible title to this thread. EO was one of the main reasons for everyone's optimism for next year (and this was before Yeboah), so for him to be criticized, as a few posters have been doing, is ridiculous imo. I don't know whether the team will be better or not without him, but I do know that we could count on him for toughness, defense, foul shots, scoring, and spirit. And unless anyone spoke to Coach Pike or EO, the true reason for his leaving is speculation, which is worthless.

Who made this comment on May 2nd in the projected minutes thread? All of a sudden he transfers and he's a Bum.

Young- 24
Mulcahy- 15
McConnell- 16
Harper- 24
Mathis- 18
Geo- 23
Eugene- 25
Yeboah- 24
Carter- 4
Duke- 4
Myles J- 23
Kiss- Reserve

I think we'll see a ton of lineups where we have our front court players as just Yeboah and Eugene. In lineups like that we have the ability to 2-2-1 press and then set up a zone with the length that we'll have with a lineup of lets say Mulcahy-Geo-Harper-Yeboah-Eugene

LOL. He had him with the most minutes and now it doesn’t mean anything that he’s gone. Look at me, I had a thread saying Ron would be the best player at RU weeks ago. Never ends.

Inside word is Geo took too many shots for EO’s liking and Jacob Young would take even more shots next season. EO wanted the ball most of the time and wasn’t going to get it, so he’s taking his ball and going home. I was a huge EO fan, but good riddance- turned out be a lousy captain and not a team-first player. Pike deserved better.

Exactly. It’s not fair to criticize a guy who guts it out, comes back sooner than anyone thought he would, plays hurt on one knee and then say he played “scared.”

I assume "inside word" told Jacob Young what he'd be doing next season. C'mon now, you've got to be kidding. Terrible post.

the takes on this board have been unreal the last 48 hours...but not surprised at all.

remember how atrocious RU was in the 3 games that Eugene didnt play in. Everyone can think he was a jerk because he was for leaving the way he did but seperate that from the importance he had in the program

Really fukked the team with timing, selfish asshole move.

Of course team will miss his game, his toughness

But doesn't want to be here, good riddance.

Hopefully see him on the court on the other side, at the rac. I will make sure I'm courtside.

Have to agree with the sentiment on this thread. Lost so much respect for EO. His integrity will forever be tarnished with RU fans in spite of all the good he did here and that's unfortunate because he was a warrior for us for 3 years. Some day he will realize this was not his best moment in his life. Time to move on.

The season had three phases for Omoruyi, healthwise:

Fully healthy (1st 13 games): 29.5 min, 15.7 pts (.496 2P%, .364 3P%, .667 FT%), 8.0 rb, 1.9 ast, 2.9 tov, 0.8 stl, 3.4 pf

Ohio State game - Dislocated knee after 7 min, hit in the air on a rebound and fell backwards with leg bent under him. Missed 3 games, and returned on 1/21 vs. Nebraska

Return from dislocation (next 10 games): 30.3 min, 12.3 pts (.420 2P%, .200 3P%, .717 FT%), 7.8 rb, 2.9 ast, 2.1 tov, 0.7 stl, 2.5 pf

Iowa game - Hyperextended knee in first half, left floor for a while, then came back into the game

Now twice injured (last 4 games): 31.0 min, 14.8 pts (.500 2P%, .000 3P%, .808 FT%), 4.5 rb, 3.5 ast, 2.6 tov, 0.8 stl, 3.5 pf

After injury (and again after the second injury), he started to get a higher percentage of his points at the FT line, take/make fewer threes, facilitate more, and rebound less.

In spring practices just a few weeks after the end of the season, I doubt his knee would have had time to fully recover or get him even to 80%. After a 6 month off season, though, with rest and PT, he would have been in a much better place to start next year. Would he have been 100%? No way to know. Would he have stayed healthy after now 3 injuries to the same knee? No way to know, since all three were somewhere "freak" occurrences but the knee would have been weaker because of them.

So, it's hard to get a real gauge on what level of performance we'd have seen from Omoruyi to start next season. He'd have been healthier than he was in March/April/May, but would he have been as healthy as he was in Nov/Dec? Any answers would be based on mere speculation.

So, my impression of his game hasn't really changed from last week to now.... but my impression of his character certainly has.

I don't know his reasons for leaving - I'm sure he's justified it to himself in any number of ways - but I do know his manner of leaving. By phone, rather than face to face? Over Instagram in the middle of the night, just hours after he was highlighted in the Toronto game announcement? Really late into the recruiting cycle, making it that much harder to fill his roster spot?

It really feels like he's trying to slink away in the night rather than owning his decision and facing the consequences head on. For someone so willing to stand in front of a driving opponent and take a charge, he certainly doesn't seem to want to stand up in front of his teammates. As someone said - his behavior in this would make me think twice about hiring him. My overall impression of him is worse now than it was, and the feelings I had of him being one of my favorite players have evaporated.

If he was talking about a red shirt year to rehab, it doesn't sound like he was expecting to be 100% for this coming season.

No one says he “played scared.”

Said he was scared of the competition this year and possibly reduced role.

See above. I get your point, but I read it differently and when I challenged kyk on his "scared" comment, he said watch the tape of Euge after his injury, suggesting IMHO that he meant he played scared.

He was scared of the competition for minutes with Yeboah and scared of a reduced role. No one ever said EO was scared on the court. That would be a ridiculous claim. I think everyone agrees EO was a complete warrior on the court come game time

I’ve bit my tongue on a lot of these threads but please answer me this...

You think Pikiell chartered a plane to Canada to convince his third option to stay?

Maybe. You think Pikiell brought in Yeboah because he thought EO was his first option?

GO RU

Yes. Realistically harper is best served with more minutes at on the wing. But if asked to play the 4 hes a better option than eugene. Im tellin u man, harper is light years farther along than eugene
