Uncle Luke on Miami's head coaching candidates:

"Everybody hates Greg Schiano here. If they hired him, it would be the death of this program. Ain't one high school coach around here that likes him.

Why interview him? What's his record [68-67 in college, 11-21 in the NFL]? He was OK at Rutgers. He shouldn't even be in the conversation. His personality doesn't fit these kids. They won't put up with that shit he did in Tampa.

The South Florida kids that played at Rutgers have said no way. They hate his guts. The shit he did when he went there, with the billboards on I-95? I have no idea why they even talked to him."

Well there's NJ coaches who don't like him either. Just because the Ledger gets 3 or 4 quotes about him doesn't represent all NJ coaches. Trust me, I know a few who have shared stories about GS

Who the hell is uncle luke?

I have heard the same from some NJ coaches.

The casual (and not-so-casual) fan perception of Schiano (other than people from Jersey and/or Rutgers fans) is that he's an overrated jerk who flamed out spectacularly in the NFL. That isn't going to help his cause, even as much as you think it might not matter.

Lol. Uncle Luke actually has a lot of juice, especailly with kids going to the U and other schools in Fl as he's been coaching the 305 All Star youth team for years which is the best kids in the city of Miami

While he and Sapp, to name just 2 are clowns they do have some juice and were very vocal in Golden getting canned

I don't want a coach that is liked I want one that is respected and to a certain degree feared by the HS coaches. Somebody they are afraid to cross.

One recruits dad said if Schiano got hired half the recruits would move on.
Good, that would make room for some 4*s that love Schiano!

As one poster stated half the kids that went to Penn State would have gone to RU if Schiano was coach. Ditto for Fuller who was ready to commit to RU.

Luke Skywalker (no one used that one yet!) does still have a lot of juice within that program. It's really not that different than it was years ago there; they're just smarter about not being so overt. So you can see why Golden and his Paternoistic way of doing things wasn't popular, and it makes me wonder if Richt will also have issues of culture. South Beach is not the same as the Deep South.

All that love the NJ HS coaches had for Flood didn't help very much keeping the top Jersey talent in-state.

Love is wonderful thing, but I'll take consistently getting 4 and 5* recruits over love any day.

The implication being that Schiano was consistently getting 4 and 5* recruits?

I didn't imply anything at all, SanFran. There was a comment in the thread about how NJ coaches loved Flood...and what did that get us?

And your talking about Schiano is your own take. I didn't mention him at all. That's your perception and yours alone. -I don't give a damn who the next coach is as long as he can bring in top talent.

100% of the NJ coaches loved Flood. He never pressured them about recruits.

Knight shift was a strong supporter of Flood till the end.

1) bullshit that "100% of the NJ coaches loved Flood"

2) Flood had no clue how to recruit, hence, never pressuring them and never landing the big ones

I want a coach that can win close games by out-thinking the opposition's coaching staff. Schiano is not the guy to do that. He sometimes made great defensive adjustments. But he also sometimes got stuck unable to adapt to the game on the field.

And Schiano doesn't know offense.

And F Golden and Cristobal. I'm willing to take a chance on Ash, but that feel's meh to me too.

THIS. I'm guessing coaches loved Flood because he gave kids a chance that otherwise wouldn't get a look at a school like Rutgers. Which cuts both ways.
