Excellent Carino article on "Chom"

Damn ... 10 for 10 on 3s ... Sure no one is in his face, and he is relaxed ... But still damn impressive. Like a machine!!!!!

While the release point on his jump shot is a little bit low I believe the coaches can work with him on this. But he can sure find the net from 3 point range. Douby-esque !

Reason number 15 why this year is going to be special. "The Perfect Storm".

Thiam is going to be a very special player on the Banks. Very humble.

The thing that separates him is his will to be great.

We are in for something special over the next couple of years. I think the RAC will ignite once again on a consistent basis. Being the spaceship that it is, there is a chance it will shoot to the moon.RReady for liftoff.

I love the shooting reports. I also like the idea that he is tireless during workouts and puts in the extra time that separates the average from the good from the very good from the great players. I want some shots to fall but I also want to see some more speed on the court that can translate into easy transition baskets. Rutgers will already have the fastest backcourt with Sanders and Johnson. Add in Thiam's speed and that's 3 fast players that could be on the court for stretches.

This team is shaping up to big and fast with position flexibility....not a bad combination.

I'm loving higgins rediscovering his voice as RU's best fan!

It doesn't take much. Put a competitive team on the floor that upsets a couple of teams and throws a scare into others and the RAC will be like its old self again.

For sure. It has not happened in a while, but I think Pikiell is going to take the space ship back to prominence.

This is great to hear and see. I remember well the much earlier great times at the RAC and have been hoping for a long time to see those days again. Maybe something like the Bobsicles will return again. They were great on TV and at the games in 1989 on our way to the A-10 Championship. We need to win games and show an exciting team and things can change again.

Dang. The idiot in me really still wants to pronounce it "Thee- Umm". But some "Shoot Chom Shoot!" crowd signs in the RAC on gameday would be cool. Opposing fans be like wha? Who?

My first good look at the chopped-down 118 bleachers. Looks neutered.

Can't wait to see Thiam in person.

Can we wait for the games to begin? The reports of Rutgers latest deadeye are frequently pipe dreams.

For a team that hasn't had a Small Forward with some 3 point shooting range, Thiam is more than capable of that aspect....he's still has a ways to go on strength but is very athletic for his height....he has a dimension to his game that has upside and won't be asked to do too much early, if the rest of the roster is healthy.

The key is rebounding and getting Nigel, Mike and Corey out in transition, where they can slash to the basket and create opportunities for Thiam to get shots.

Looks like only 6 rows of seats in the newly configured Sec 118. Still appear to be bleacher seats though. Meh.

Seating configuration has been changed for over a month now. They are a full 8-10 feet further from the endline.

6 rows of seats, but row 1 will not be used.

Brian - what was the reason they removed all of those rows?
Seems like you'd want fans as close as possible to intimidate the opponents.

Thanks

Not BK but I believe it was posted in a thread a while ago that they are putting "cushioned" seats there in front of 118.

I have to go back to Rob Hodgson.

He wasn't a "traditional 3" but the Webb-Douby-Shields lineup got shooting from the "3 spot".

Having attended the famous Rutgers-PSU game as a student I believe on a game in/game out basis the RAC was never as loud as it was during Waters' tenure. I would LOVE to see it get back there consistently. There were games under Rice (Florida for example) where it go loud, but the RAC between 01-02 and 05-06 was loud all the time. Really loud.

Can Thiam be a high post FOUR man?

With Corey and Nigel's ability to get all the way to the rim...and Thaim's three point shooting range...would love for him to play high pick and roll all day on top for Corey andf Nigel and being there for the pitch back three....hw would pull opposing big men away from the hoop to guard at the three point line and create more space for corey and Nigel to drive

How about Herve or Donnell Lumpkin?

NOT a CHANCE

The two single loudest moments the RAC has EVER been...period was during two games (when capacity was 8700 and change) in 1991-1992

-The last possession of the RU-Hall game...#13 Hall with the ball up three and minute and change to go and Bob elects to play defense and not foul

-And the loudest...down 10 to #23 UNLV in the second half, in the 2-2-1 trap, the press cause THREE straight turnovers for three straight baskets in about 15-18 seconds. By the time the third...that was the blow off point of the RAC in history. Tarkanian literally walked off the bench...and HALF WAY ON THE COURT while play was going on...to get the refs attention for the timeout. loudest moment at the RAC

-the last possession of the RU=PSU win was the THIRD loudest moment in RAC history...btw

The RAC had a few MOMENTS that came close to that (Inglis three at the buzzer to force OT against Nova in Jan 2006, the last possession of RU-UConn in 2004 when they were number 1, couple of others)....but never quite as loud once the chairbacks went in behind the benches in the 100 level

I was at both of those games and couldn't agree more. As a matter of fact, the noise level in the RAC before the Seton Hall game even tipped off, has probably not been matched since.

The entire second half of the UNLV game was painful in an awesome way. Human ears are not meant to hear that volume. It was ear splitting volume even during time outs if I recall. Could be a "fish story" about the time outs but that's how I like to remember it.

My apologies as I meant on a game to game basis not necessarily rating the "loudest moments".

Under Gary, especially in '03-'04, you could go to a weekday game against Miami in January and the building was going to be LOUD. Not sure that was true in '88-'89 or even '90-'91 (I thought game to game the RAC was pretty loud that year). But even in '04-'05 and certainly '05-'06 it didn't matter what game it was (not counting OOC's against low majors) the league games, no matter the opponent, we would have a pretty rocking house. Not sure we have been, on an every game basis, louder than we were for Gary's five years (i only go back to '88 so anything earlier I wouldn't know).

Just my $0.02

Without judging the relative loudness of games or eras, I would agree that the GW era saw consistently loud crowds. Of course, that was the last time we had a consistently competitive team, with multiple top 25 victories each year. Damn, those Jerome Coleman threes are STILL raining down!

That's correct...they are putting a row of premium seats in front of the section, right along the baseline

How is Thiam's lateral quickness? Willingness to rebound?

I did a write up on him when we were going after him. He can rebound well. He also has impressive alertness on and off ball man defense.

In general, the kid has the will to be great. He will take off.

When it is all said and done, Thiam will be a 16 point, 6 rebound, 4 assist type of kid. At least.

I thought the RAC was consistently really loud for a couple of the Bannin years. 98-99 and 99-00. On par with the waters years IMO
