Failing an NCAA invite, Hobbs should make NIT choice, not CVS

Those who read this forum regularly know that I am not among the inveterate CVS bashers.

However, I have listened to her after-game and other statements for about a dozen years. From what I’ve observed, I fear a scenario that Hobbs should address before it happens.

I worry about two things coming together to hurt our team for this year AND NEXT.

CVS has often expressed her disdain for the NIT.

What happens if we don’t get an invitation to the dance?

What happens if CVS is at 998 wins at the end of the B1G tourney?

Can CVS face getting her 1000th win in the “Not Invited Tourny?” Is it possible that she might might be tempted to decide that she'd rather wait until next year and turn down an NIT invite this year?

If we don’t get to the dance, Hobbs should make it clear NOW that the decision to go to the NIT is his alone.

I think CVS might have changed a little about disliking he WNIT so much.
In RU's 28-9 2013-14 season , the team played in the WNIT and also went to that tourney in 2015-16.
Since the 2002-03 ( without postseason play) season Rutgers has missed post season twice (2012-13 & 2016-17) and except for those two WNIT appearances Vivian has brought her teams to the NCAA Tourney and it might be a little early to give up hope on a Dance bid this season.
But it is time to be very concerned if the RUWBB gets an invite after losing it's last 3 games ( 4 of last 5) and with the teams left on schedule the RU team will be facing

I think with 1000 so close and if not accomplished by the end of regular season ( & B1G tourney), Hobbs and Stringer would agree, if no NCAA, accepting a WNIT spot would be in the best interest of Rutgers and Vivian's quest for 1000 if she falls short in the regular season and doesn't make it during the Big Ten tourney.

I don't think it's Stringers call. It's the Athletic Directors decision, after he confers with his team, which includes Stringer.
But, it's my opinion that you get as much exposure as possible, and not let any type of vanity guide that decision. Heaven knows Rutgers needs some positive press.

Yep ... I saw this coming six weeks ago.

Fans deserve to know the whole truth: if this decision was, in fact, the team's, the AD's ... or just CVS's.

And, if it was, in fact, just CVS, then I, at long last, am done with her.

We’d be lucky to find out after she retires let’s be real.

I personally am pissed at the no WNIT decision
Whoever decided, CVS team or both forgot that there might be some RU W3BB fans that wanted to take the stench out of the way season ended and no Dance because of it by a good showing in the WNIT.

Only thing I will say is :Vivian get your 1000 early next season , because you have one less defender after the way the team collapsed at the end of regular season and turning down a WNIT bid when getting #1000 might have taken away some of the disappointment of how season turned out with a good WNIT showing .

Choosing not to go to the NIT did cost CVS a small bonus on her $775K salary for this year; it's $10K for an NIT participation; an additional $20K for an NIT Championship.

CVS only wants what is best for her team.

I am surprised this is not be part of the Big 10 contract with Rutgers. I would think the conference would need to allow Rutgers to pass on a post season tourney.

If Rutgers is chosen to a B10 affiliated bowl for football they can't just turn it down if they don't like the location.

I wonder if CVS will vacate all her WNIT wins if it was her own decision and felt it was beneath her to get 1000 in the WNIT?

Assuming it was not a team decision (which is OK with me if they just want to pull the plug), I think this program is nowhere near the dominant one in years past. We are not an elite program! Turning down an opportunity to keep on playing and, possibly, ending on a much better note than what it did seems foolish.
I am one of the ones who believes it is time for CVS to step aside and get a younger person with new ideas at the helm. No doubt she well deserves the accolades she has received and let's get that one thousand win and move on.

ya think lol (and not trying to be rude to you)...9-10 years ago we used to be right there with 3 of the 4 NCAA number one seeds!

RC66, You certainly did make a great call 6 weeks ago. This should have been addressed at that time.

I was disappointed that we did not get an NCAAA bid since we were finalist for one of the last four spots. Was looking forward to seeing some more games at the RAC in the WNIT although I saw somewhere that there may have been some scheduling conflicts. With that said, I do agree with not accepting the bid. After I thought about it, I saw it as a lose lose scenario. The expectations would be high and I am not sure this team could meet them. Big let down not going to the dance, Tyler looked like she was completely drained at the end of the season and she needs to be at her best for us to win. Disappointed but understand.

that kind of approach is what makes Rutgers what it is. Not ready for Prime Time and lacking of the "will and commitment to succeed". How many of the other 128 teams playing post season have tired legs and just decide to stop playing?

The statement made by CVS appeared to have everything to do with not getting in the NCAA and nothing about the rest. Until I hear otherwise that what I take from it.
