Fellas, This Let's All The Good Hot Air Out Of Last Week.

Can someone tell me what the good side is of GS going to OSU?

Him being out of college was best case. Him being at a recruiting juggernaut is next best. Ohio is a talent rich state they already own. OSU was already recruiting NJ with success, so though he may bring them a little more, it won't be overly discernible.

Ash is a beast. I look forward to seeing these battles.

GS with the grey hair and glasses after being in the NFL? Let's see how jazzed he is about pitching 16 year old kids.

There's no good side but there's no bad side either, it just is. If it was some other hot shot DC would that be any better for us? He's not adding anything to OSU and Meyer that they didn't already have.

good side of GS going to OSU

1.) the suspense is over - Elvis has left the building.
2.) He might have his hands very full proving that he is worthy
3.) He will be in a spot where he will be accountable - last 2 years he has played the role of St. Gregory of Shiano without being accountable for any performance - just had to supply verbage for the TV audiance.
4.) His willingness to move north will be tested - - will he move his residence? or will he be a Columbus apartment guy ... and keep the homestead in Tampa?

the one thing to keep an eye on - how much does he keep an eye on Penn State ? and then how much does he follow every move of Purdue? A DC from Ohio State could easily fit in the HC seat in either place

Ohio State's defense was 10th in the nation this year.

I appreciate everything the man did for Rutgers, but Ohio State's D will not be anywhere near top 10 under Schiano.

Step off the ledge people. My god, some of you just seem like scaredy cats. GS being DC at OSU will be about the same as Chris Ash being DC at OSU was. They're (OSU) neutral, we likely took a step up in coaching. It's still exciting.

He is not going to Purdue or even the Ped.
Let's fast forward 5 years. He get's the UF job he always thought he deserved...after all, the Florida school is, the crown jewel of higher education in Florida. Now he is recruiting Jersey and Florida.

See it as a nightmare.I do.

1) He is more valuable to OSU for his Florida connections than for his NJ connections.
2) Let's see if he can keep the OSU defense as good as Ash's.

Doesn't let the "good hot air" out of RU's new hire for me at all. -I'm pumped with the energy and charisma CA brings to the program, and I'm excited to see the changes he'll be putting in and am looking forward to having a tough, competitive Rutgers football team out on the field again.

OSU can currently pull whoever they want in NJ because Urban is the best coach in the country. However, giving Schiano that platform will hurt us long term bc he us only going to be there a year or two. It will help him recruit NJ when he's back running his own program in 2016/17. Anyone who says otherwise is just hating on Greg

Schiano defense was 3 rd in the nation one year with his 2 and 3 stars.

I wonder if Ash's office stuff is in the hallway with a map of NJ on it yet?

try looking at it this way---perhaps this gives RU more credibility--a RU "guy" gets a job at OSU--and we get an OSU guy--we swim in the best places

Did it ever occur to you that OSU might do worse defensively with Schiano there than with Ash there? Schiano couldn't beat WVU. He sucked against the spread.

Recruiting will be unaffected because OSU was getting who they wanted before Schiano went there.

Let's hope that Urban Meyer takes the bait from the Cleveland Browns and bails for the NFL. Would like nothing better than to see Schiano on the sideline calling the shots for Buckeyes.

Even with KF supposedly knowing Jersey, that didn't seem to help him at all in terms of keeping Jersey's best home, so I'll take Ash using a map over Flood's "knowledge" of the state any day.

So much foolishness posted. First he was only good with Miami 5 stars now only with 2 stars. Etc Silliness.

It's not good. The only good thing is he is not a hc. He will be in a year or two but not now.

We get the young GS in Ash, who still has to work out the kinks where the polished GS is now with OSU. Not sure we won on this one and to say otherwise at this point is just bias. Time will tell. Ash may be a GS but he will likely have to work through things and he is starting from a cupboard of decent talent and a B10 platform. Whether the stubbornness was Hobbs' or GS is negotiations will be interesting to find out.

We made a calculated, safe/solid small time HC hire. Ohio State just made a big boy power move hire at DC. In Ash's intoduction press conference he states his goal is to bring Rutgers back to where Schiano left it. You could see this coming from a mile away once we hired Ash with the Schiano and Meyer connection. This probably only hurts us in our current state if Schiano kills it at OSU and lands the Penn State job when Franklin gets fired. At some point we are going to have to move the needle nationally and hire 4-5million dollar coach.

Why don't all the hand-wringers on here give our new coach a chance to show what he can do? -I mean, God almighty, after 4 years as HC KF was running this program directly over a cliff, yet there were/are people on here who still actually wanted this guy to continue.

Coach Ash is just what this program needs at this time; a guy who's young, energetic, charismatic, and has years of experience with winning programs. -He's been on the job for RU less than an entire week, and yet we already have predictions of doom and gloom by some.

At the very least, cut the guy the same amount of slack many were willing to give his predecessor.

Ohio State already gets just about anybody they want. Schools like Ohio State and Alabama don't recruit players so much as just select who they want to play for them.

We compete for recruits against teams like Syracuse, Pitt, BC, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina NC State and Penn State. I don't see were Schiano joining the staff at Ohio State makes a bit of difference.

Good side

1) Can't see Schiano being the deciding factor in choosing OSU over RU (tradition, Meyer, cash money, etc)

2) All we need is a mobile QB and we're guaranteed to beat OSU - well unless that QB is named Grothe

You guy's are missing the 'big picture," in all of this SCHIANO IS AN ASST. COACH! For all you Schiano worshippers, the guy couldn't cut it as a Head Coach! And, now he has to hope and learn his craft all over again. He won't last long, his ego is way to big.

Tampa Bay thought they made a big boy power move too. I don't hate Schiano at all, but I fail to see what you folks who think he shits gold are seeing in him. Now, if you said he shits diamonds, that would be different cause he is all kinds of uptight.

Frankly, I see more potential for the Schiano hire doing Schiano and OSU more harm than good. But only time will tell.

At this particular point in time I will take Ash over Greg as a DC.

Speaking of overly dramatic, has anyone checked in with @NotInRHouse since the Schiano news broke? As I recall, Schiano was his savior to replace Flood. First we hire Ash, now this. NIRH, step back from the ledge and put on an Allman Brother's album. It's gonna be okay.

If Urban Meyer thinks he is the best guy OSU could get to be defensive coordinator and Associate Head Coach, then I would tend to believe him and not some random message board posters. Greg has ties to the state of Rutgers, but I wonder how much of his duties will relate to recruiting. Greg emphasized special teams and got us on the map in that respect. I wonder what, if any, influence, he will have in that regard in Columbus. Greg has not recruited collge players for several years now, so I wonder if the recruiting landscape has changed enough so that he will not be as effective as he was when he was here. Without a doubt when our defensive gave plan clicked or when he made adjustments, we playe great defense and developed great defensive players under him, but he was inflexible at times and it hurt us. I wonder if Meyer will tolerate that degree of stubborness. I would prefer that he landed someplace far away and someplace far away when when he moves on in a year or two. This is sort of like a young defensive version of our Friedgen hire. Above all the quality and depth of the athletes he will be coaching is superior to the group he had here, maybe with the partial exception of our DBs.

Congrats on the dumbest post of the day!

The main reason Schiano was ever hired at Rutgers was because of his defenses at Miami. I believe he left Miami with a top 5 defense.

So why wouldn't he be able to have a top 10 defense at Ohio State?

"Greg is a very intelligent football coach, unbelievable man. What he did here for Rutgers, quite honestly, if I could even come close to that, I would be pretty excited.

"I have gotten to know Greg in the last couple years in my time at Ohio State. Had an opportunity to visit with him on several occasions. We talked about Rutgers in the past and what he did here and how he did it. I look forward to having an opportunity to talk to him again here in the near future and pick his brain on a couple things.

"But I'm not trying to compare myself to anybody else. I'm not trying to compare myself to what's happened in the past. I'm trying to make us better each and every day that I can, and I'm trying to be the best head coach that I can be for these players. If at the end of the day when it's all done, if we have a great program that can be comparable to what Coach Schiano built here, it will be a pretty good place.''

There is just no way this is good for RU. The only good side is that when tOSU does great next year, Schiano will be off to coach a solid P5 school. He missed the boat this year, so took the best thing available to him for the long run: locked down successful year with high visibility. I'll bet he doesn't have a "two-year commitment" to Meyer.

Our problem is that he is well-liked in many areas of NJ among HS coaches and will play that out, and it may well cost us a recruit or two. Will it affect the outcome of next year's tOSU game? LOL.

The idea that he is a so-so recruiter because he lost battles while at RU is laughable. He's at tOSU now. Been there? Notice the championship rings? Seen the facilities? Noted the history? I'm pulling for Ash, but the already tough recruiting battle with tOSU just got tougher. Don't kid yourself.
