Are they kidding with this schedule? Three at Miami, then three at Virginia? Are they TRYING to start off in an 0-6 hole?

To be the best, you have to beat the best...

Rutgers baseball always begins at Miami; chance to go down and face top competition. It was Hill's philosophy, and Litterio has carried it along. It's a chance to make a statement early too. I know Litterio thinks this roster is very capable...sky is the limit for this offense. Pitching staff is very young. Games on ESPN3, should be fun. Maybe the boys can steal a couple.

I'm ikay with playing Miami to start off the season, but to follow it up with Virginia is brutal. Losing takes its toll mentally. Starting 1-5 of 0-6 is terrible and hurts the pitching staf. It took them sometime to get on track last year. I dont like it.

Thanks. I hope I'm wrong. But it's no secret that we're not exactly trotting out a bunch of cy young award winners. Even after those two series, we have some tough opponents. The front loaded schedule hurt the soccer team too.

The leadership of Rutgers baseball has to expand their reading lists beyond Chip Hilton novels.

You really think our offense will be good? To me this seems like our weakest hitting team in years. I also think our pitching is very weak. I hope I am horribly wrong.

We can play the better teams on the southern swing, but it would be nice to come home at .500. We don't beat a lot of the other teams either and it's tough to make up ground. Even though the B1G is our ticket to any NCAA bid, winning about 35 games is the standard. The early games count more than most people think they do and it could matter later.

Harris with two homers, but the annual Miami visit really stinks

Nice game for Harris, but Miami figured out a way to keep him off the bases too. We out hit them, but didn't outscore them. Played them tight in game one and got a nice pitching performance which is encouraging.

It is not the schedule, it is the current teams. When FH had it rolling, we still won 35-40 games every year, won conference titles and made the NCAA.

I hate seeing the poor starts each year ... Of course with the weather games start on the road, but can we find an even matched game or cupcake for the first 3-6 games them play Miami?

This was sweet. Although we come home 1-2 we did outscore Miami 21-17 in the 3 games. I believe Miami made the college world series the last two years. Maybe our new CASTLE had something to do with our scoring 21 runs in the 3 games.

That's a solid win. We didn't have too many games where we scored a lot, so this is good. O'Reilly pitched well in game 1 as well. Let's get another next week.

Besides being a very nice win, it shows some of our capabilities hitting the ball as a team. Good start guys.

Yeah, we were not a great hitting team last year. I wound love for the baseball team to improve.

I think there's a lot of potential...as you saw this weekend. Tom Marcinczyk and Mike Carter have been around for years and are both more than capable of producing at a .300 clip. Milo Freeman can really hit, but had a down year last season. Chris Folinusz, a catcher, missed last season with injury but can provide legitimate pop in the middle of the lineup...plus Jay Harris at the top of the order...Bowerbank, Campbell, and Rosa have all shown offensive ability as well...

Look, offense doesn't necessarily mean three-four guys with 8-12 home runs. Offense means scoring runs, and there's a lot of speed on this team and a lot of guys who I think can hit .300+...if guys Harris and Carter can consistently get on base and make noise on the base paths, then I trust Campbell, Marcinczyk, Folinusz, Freeman to drive them home...if this team is going to win, it's because they're going to score runs.

Pitching is a question mark. O'Reilly threw a nice game Friday and I think Brito can be very solid, and Herrman has been a career rock out of the pen...but it will be interesting what the rest of the staff can do.

Again, no issue with this team opening at Miami. I think winning 17-6 on Sunday gives them a lot of confidence heading into UVA next weekend.

Very nice win against Miami. If they can get one against Virginia I will be thrilled. I was a little bit surprised that Driscoll did not pitch in the series and that Mike Martinez did not play in the series. Are they OK?

Also, I don't think Marcinczyk had a hit in the series so he's yet to get started.

Ok ... Team proved me wrong ... Can they win 1 or 2 at UVA?

Ugh ... 1-5 start ... 18-2 loss today ... Swept by UVA ... Why not schedule winnable games at the beginning? No objections to high competition after a few games under their belt, but every year it feels like the team needs to climb out if a hole.

Because meaningless games against crap teams don't get you better.

Unless our pitchers aren't in shape, looks like a real problem area for this team. Losing 3-2 going into the bottom of the 6th and give up 15 runs in 2 innings. Can anybody pitch a scoreless frame or just get an out ?
Virginia is a good team and can really hit, but this is what we're up against if you want to get thru the regionals. Hopefully, once we play at home, things will click.

"a real problem"? This is what you get after 2 series against Top 20 programs? How about holding off just a tad before getting too crazy. "Get thru the regionals"?? Damn man how about we just get TO the NCAA's?

Let's see how we do against the local competition with the pitching staff. Unless it's because of early season issues, we saw what happens against ranked teams. Our league will probably be good too so it could be a stretch even making the NCAA's. It does look like we will be a good offensive team and that should keep us in some games.
