“Let me start by saying I’m disappointed at the tone of the article that (associate athletic director for media relations/football) Hasim (Phillips) showed me this morning. I’ve been the head coach now, this is going into my fourth season, and I’ve had a lot of interaction with the teachers on our campus. I think that that article not only insults my integrity, but insults the integrity of our faculty. I’ve come to realize that our faculty here at Rutgers is beyond reproach and I have a tremendous amount of respect for them.

“Our faculty are part of our program. Just as recently as the other day, we had two faculty members at our practice. Now, any correspondence that I had with a professor in regard to a student-athlete would really be of this nature: One, to be in support of whatever decision that faculty member made, and two, to inquire as to whether or not there would be an opportunity to earn a better grade. Now, this practice is not unusual at Rutgers. Many students all over campus receive what are called ‘T grades’ doing work outside of when the class ends that semester to earn a better grade.”

"I think that that article not only insults my integrity, but insults the integrity of our faculty." I do not think Flood would have made this statement without first running this by the AD or even legal advise.

Apparently they're hiring outside investigators to find out what happened. Honestly they should just release the emails to the public. It's quicker, will save money and there won't be any retarded speculation. You will be able to judge for yourself.

The longer this goes on, the worse for the program from a PR standpoint and a recruiting standpoint even if Flood is completely innocent here.

Unfortunately Flood's own words are quite damming. (I've been a professor for almost forty years.)

1. Many students do not receive I grades. They are discouraged and they are only allowed when work could not be completed due to circumstances such as illness. They are never permitted to improve a grade.
2. I was an instructor at Rutgers as a grad student during the 75-76 undefeated basketball run. I failed a starting player. The academic coordinator strictly kept conversation to questions such as "is the player attending class." At no time were there questions about opportunities to earn a better grade. At no time was Tom Young in touch.

From the Registrar's website (http://nbregistrar.rutgers.edu/facstaff/regis.htm):
  • "TB+, TB, TC+, TC, TD, TF and TZ" grades: These grades are used for all incomplete and temporary grades in undergraduate courses and are also used in some graduate courses (for details, see below). Temporary grades are given at the discretion of the instructor when the student has not properly completed the course requirements (i.e., major assignments or examination). Except for the TZ grade, the letter grade following the T represents the grade the instructor would assign if the outstanding work were to remain uncompleted. The temporary grade becomes permanent if the work is not completed as required (see "TZ" grade below). When the student has completed the required work, the instructor will assign a permanent grade. In no case will this permanent grade be poorer than the assigned temporary grade. Instructors should specify a time limit for completing the course requirements prior to the end of the following term. All grade changes are completed online, see:http://nbregistrar.rutgers.edu/facstaff/grades.htm
  • "TZ" grade: Temporary or incomplete grade is used only in undergraduate courses, and should only be assigned when a student is unable to finish his/her course work due to a verifiable emergency situation. The student and faculty member should endeavor to reach an agreement as soon as possible as to how the course should be completed. The TZ will have no immediate effect on a student’s GPA, however, if the situation is not resolved within the following semester, the TZ will convert to an F, and the GPA will be recalculated accordingly. ("TZ" is not used in graduate courses).
  • "NG" grade: Where no grade is assigned on the final grade roster by the faculty member the Registrar shall assign NG (No Grade Given) for both undergraduate and graduate coursework. The NG will have no immediate effect on the student’s GPA, however, if the situation is not resolved within the following semester, the NG will convert to an "F" and the GPA will be recalculated accordingly.

Well ,you are correct sort of.... remember Rutgers had no academic support system nor any true relationship with the faculty up until Greg Schiano became head coach and Pernetti was AD...the program goes out of it's way to satisfy the small narcissistic group of professors who have been anti sports for whatever reason...if my info is accurate Nadir Barnwell knew quite well he would sit because of his grade issues...suspending a player has not been an issue at RU...neither Barnwell nor staff was being given any info ...deliberately???...perhaps...Not out of the question to rationalize since we do have large supportive group of Rutgers faculty members Kyle probably was making an honest inquiry...I think Kyle's statement to the press says a great deal about what actually occurred...I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on this and my support as a fan, donor and tax payer
