Football Parking Update

Hobbs and the Department heard the concerns and responded. Great!
April 13, 2016

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The 2016 Rutgers Football season is right around the corner! This means it is time to dust off your grills, pull out your favorite apron, and prepare for another year of the best tailgating in New Jersey. Since joining the Big Ten Conference, we have seen an influx in both season ticket holders and donations. As more support has continued to grow for Rutgers Athletics and the Football program, there has been a larger fluctuation in game day parking.

After taking in the feedback of our most loyal fans, we are happy to announce that all renewed Rutgers season ticket holders will have the opportunity to park on Busch Campus this year. In an effort to enhance the game day experience, Athletic Director Pat Hobbs has acquired additional parking to guarantee renewed ticket holders a space on the campus of High Point Solutions Stadium. “We have worked through many challenges to provide our season ticket holders the best possible parking,” said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Patrick Hobbs. “Providing excellent customer service is of primary importance. We want to ensure a positive experience that begins at arrival.”

Busch Campus has a total of ten lots for season ticket parking: Scarlet, Green, Yellow, Blue, Purple, Black, Silver, Light Blue, and Tan.

The parking allocation will begin after the April 30th deadline. Parking is allocated following the below guidelines:

• You must be a football season ticket holder, and renewed in full
• The qualifying annual donation for the requested lot has been met
------ This qualifying donation includes any seat gifts made to RSF as well as any gift made to the R Fund from July 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016
• The qualifying number of priority points has been met
------ When allocating parking, season ticket holders are ranked from the highest priority points to the lowest. If the qualifying annual donation has been met, each lot is then filled in descending priority point order. The last person to be allocated in a designated lot now becomes the new priority point minimum.

You can find the minimum annual donation for your preferred lot by following the chart below.
*Priority point cutoffs listed are in reference to the 2015 season, these are subject to change.

We are also continuing the option of reserved parking in the green lot. Those who qualify for green parking, or better, have the opportunity to secure a parking space for all seven home games at High Point Solutions Stadium. The reserved spaces are located in the first row of the green lot with easy access in and out of the lot. They provide you with a premium tailgating area and a guaranteed space no matter what time you arrive. Spaces are limited, please contact your ticket representative for more information at 866-445-GORU.

There is no better time to be a part of the Rutgers community. Make sure you don’t miss a minute of the 2016 Football season!

Exiting the Purple Lot--is it easy? Want it to be as easy as Silver or Yellow to get onto 287 and/or Route 18 South.

Once you get OUT of 1 of the 3 lots, IMHO, it's a cakewalk. It's just getting to the exit of whichever of the 3 lots that you're in, so, walk fast. [thumb2]

Another good job by Hobbs by lending clarity to the parking issue, as well as some level of give back to the season ticket holders.

Great job by Hobbs on this. Looks like the fans voiced their concerns and he is listening. This will definitely help all of those season ticket holders that got bumped to the RAC last year!

"...acquired additional parking" sounds very much the same as when the stadium at UMich "acquired additional seating".

This may not be a good thing.

Nice.

If only that it should end the "{blah_blah} lot is not filled up" nonsense.

From everything I am hearing on Silver, when/if I go to rank my lots (currently in Yellow), and since walking distance is not an issue but ease of exit from the lot is most important to get onto 287 South or 18 South, I should go:
Yellow, Silver, Purple.
Really leery of the Blue Lot. I know it has calmed down a lot since 2 years ago, but we are not huge tailgaters, and I have heard it is very tough to get out of the blue lot.

Yeah.

The vagueness does not give me the warm and fuzzies.

I'll make you a deal right now. Take your yellow and I'll trade you my silver/black plus the additional cash owed for that lot (the diff between Yellow and Silver). I don't mind the wait, but I can't stand the walk. if you are interested send me an email. JRingoes@comcast.net

The thing is, we are absolutely fine with Yellow. It worked great for us last year for in and out, and we could wander over to the blue lot tailgates pre-game. Problem is, we got into Yellow because we got 25 bonus points when we bought a bunch of Quick Lane Bowl tickets for donation.

We are a little cash strapped this year, and we may not be able to make much of a donation to keep ourselves in the Yellow Lot (Wahh!). We are looking for a good option other than Yellow and to avoid Blue (obviously, Green and Scarlet our out of reach).

Sounds like we should list Yellow, Silver then Purple as our choices.

ah ha.. got it. Yeah..those extra tix folks bought last year pushed me back a lot (literally lol). You're giving me hope I might be able to move back up to Black (which I like a lot... haha).

Going to RU really did a job on you guys. To an outsider it's kind of funny how you look always seem to assume the worst first.

It's basic analysis, which in this case quickly reveals the inherent ridiculousness of the phrase "acquired more parking".

They haven't added any actual parking lots. The overall footprint of Bush Campus parking for football remains the same.

There aren't too many conclusions you can draw.

You, sir, never had to take a trip to the Administrative Services Building, which during my time, it was hard to understand why the word "Services" was in their name. You did not fall prey to the RU Screw for scheduling, where you were sometimes forces to shuttle between Cook/Douglass and Busch/Livingston classes on a tight schedule.

Overall, my experience was not bad. But I saw things happens to friends and colleagues that would make a grown up cry.

This may not be a good thing.

That would be unfortunate, and counterproductive to keeping your donors happy.

I know last year we often had to fight with the parking attendants to leave enough space between rows of cars to allow us to set up our tailgate. If they try to cram more cars into the lots by giving each tailgate group less space, they're just going to annoy the people who donate large sums of money to get good tailgating spots.

I'm certainly hoping that Hobbs means they actually acquired more space, such as expanding the yellow lot by using some space near the visitor center, or expanding the black or light blue lots by using surface lots that were previously not assigned.

Or maybe the previous regime artificially inflated the point scaling to increase donations and squeeze people to the RAC when there was more space on Busch.

I doubt there's many people in the RAC lot anyway.

Well, all that will be easily revealed when the parking cutoffs are released. Of course, by then it's too late to do anything about it, same as every year.

Maybe we have a lot less season ticket renewals.

I told my ticket agent that I was debating dropping parking altogether because of the uncertainty of where our lot would be. She has been very persistent in e-mailing, texting and calling me to renew. I suspect renewals are going slowly.

I don't think Rutgers actually owns the golf course. So it might not be an option anyway.

Pretty sure they do. It's definitely not a county course and I've never been able to find anything to suggest that Rutgers doesn't own it.

But regardless - would you ever want to park your car for an entire day within easy reach of an angry fairway wood?

Sorry that you and others don't see the humor in all this.

For months these boards have been heaping praise on Hobbs for his performance since taking over..."We finally have an AD who gets it"..."he's smart"..."he cares"...."he knows what the fans want"...etc.

Now, the 1st time there's a semi important announcement that directly affects many people here and not knowing the particulars, it's "uh-oh, we're going to get screwed".

I just googled the Busch Campus. There are a couple of large lots not used for football as far as I know. Maybe game day parking is getting a larger number of spaces over by the UMDNJ? I'm not saying they're going to be premium spaces but they will be on Busch.

I think we got the winner.

Didn't even think of the fact that we could potentially use UMDNJ spaces now (as opposed to prior to the merger...).

I think Sj is correct (or partially) as well. Also, I can tell you that there must be 50 cars in the Silver Lot on game day that are there parked well before the lot opens. Like some sort of perm parking for those buildings near by. So if they could get them out of there it is a few more. Maybe athlete's glen?

I parked in Blue for a couple of years. Never had a problem getting out of the lot...as long as I left at halftime.

Or maybe they will use the extra 500 spaces in the blue lot and 300 spaces in yellow that they didn't use to inflate the PP totals and demand.

I'm guessing the blue Ada lot will he the Paved lot behind yurcak and they will add additional knightengale shuttles

I found that to be fairly easy too. It really depends on the end game results/timing, the cops, and the construction status. And as somebody said..how fast you walk back to the car..

The getting out is overblown .. it is no worse than getting out of MetLife lots.

Maybe everyone needs to stop rushing and just plan accordigly.
