Football Parking Update

Agree with a few posts on here. Could be adding back use of spots in the blue lot on the side of the soccer field that weren't used last year and use of umdnj lots. I'm sure there are other examples of how Busch parking was decreased over the last few years as well.

Email says Busch has ten lots and lists only nine colors. Maybe just a stupid typo but it's funny how vague these new spots are described.

Soooooo many mis conceptions and just plain wrong posts in this thread and the funny part is they were proven wrong last year but yet they still live. Rutgers fans at their best.

One last thing, for those of you complain about traffic on the way out. You do realize RU has more cars parked near their stadium then any other B1G team other then 1, now it will be more. These thousands of cars are getting onto roads that mostly are two lanes. Well duh, traffic. Lets throw in the always retort, the RU Screw.

Go visit some other stadiums and walk miles to the stadium and you will realize how good you have it.

This.

1. Maybe taking some of the Yellow lot that had been reserved for corporate groups (and went unused) all season back.
2. Maybe using the area of Blue behind the soccer field (this 1/3 of blue was roped off and unused last year).
3. Maybe designating some of the Med School lots for season parking (though that would necessitate a new "color" for that lot), which has been used as game day cash parking.

The roped-off section of the Blue Lot was envisioned to be Hamsterdam. Maybe @MrsScrew could offer some insight, as she requested my Hamsterdam graphic several weeks back.

Or maybe the previous regime artificially inflated the point scaling to increase donations and squeeze people to the RAC when there was more space on Busch.

I doubt there's many people in the RAC lot anyway.

Gotta be this.

Whatever the plan was it was completely unused. The idea of reserving premium parking area for students is offensive to the thousands who donate to get good parking.
And apparently the students don't want it anyway.

The plan was an olive branch. When we turned it over to Julie, her response was to move the students to Werblin. There was a less than positive reaction. Had they gone with the section of the Blue lot, it would have gone better.

Remember - these were kids who DID have Blue lot passes, albeit at the rate of 1 car per 30-50 students. But they were there to begin with. Rather than remove them completely, my idea was to simple segregate them. Nobody really loses.

Brown lot is not listed on the chart.
Yeah but you can't request Brown... same with White lot, you can't request White either... so this 10th lot is?... probably a typo where there are 10 requestable lots if you include the RAC lot. But only 9 on Busch.

I told my ticket agent that I was debating dropping parking altogether because of the uncertainty of where our lot would be. She has been very persistent in e-mailing, texting and calling me to renew. I suspect renewals are going slowly.

I agree with this too....and maybe not so much season ticket sales as much as parking requests...thats where the decline might be at right now..I think its a combo of this and that there were unused spots in yellow and blue last year that will be filled and probably another lot somewhere on Busch to be used.

I got nothing. I wanted that graphic for my own personal information. sorry.

the listing didn't include the lt blue, tan, or silver. as I think about this more it is likely more push to these remote lots and expansion at UMDNJ so it looks good on [paper but without trans help not such a great option. (just my opinion. who knows)

True. The traffic getting out of the State Penn game last year was f-ing miserable and that was with leaving in the middle of the 4th quarter. Took 2+ hours to escape the cow pasture.

Not sure what you are talking about... Yes it did list blue tan and silver.... "Busch Campus has a total of ten lots for season ticket parking: Scarlet, Green, Yellow, Blue, Purple, Black, Silver, Light Blue, and Tan."

The parking and traffic are awful all the time. No police or parking attendant control. Free for all each time and for such a small stadium traffic should be easy to control with some planning.

Michigan. Someone from RU needs to talk to the people at Michigan. Parking there was easy (we parked on the golf course). they close streets in one direction post game so everyone can get out easily. they utilized a HS parking lot across from the stadium for RV parking. the corners between the RV lot and the stadium were manned by cops and one cop in a stand (officer Laura) who controlled the light. when the light turned red for the cars music started and people could cross the street in any direction. music stopped and the people stopped. it was quick. it was easy. and it worked.
It took us about 15 minutes go get out of the golf course parking lot (which was about a 15 minute walk away from the stadium)

parked in the blue ada lot last year, knightingale service was ok, didn't have enough pp to make the white lot after making an additional contribution, thought that was unfair since they raised the minimum pp needed for the white lot after the fact.

As Mr. Iverson would say, "We're talking about parking." Parking a car for 7 afternoon/evenings a year. Unless you're physically incapacitated or coming with very small children, we're talking about parking.

Pardon my language, but a lot of this "what lot am I going to get" stuff amounts to a d--k swinging contest. I'll get what I get and deal with it. Im not handing over hundreds of dollars that are desperately needed for so many other things so I can have a shorter walk to the stadium.

Not that simple - really talking about tailgate parties and folks for the same party - are arriving in different lots. So if the main tailgate is in Yellow and folks are coming from Black, Blue or the RAC it limits what they can carry to the tailgate.

if you are parking and going straight into the game then yes its just parking

Fair enough. Though you can maeuver a bit and try to trade passes with someone

oh, I thought the reference was to the listing at the beginning of the thread ..the one in Knight Shift's post (the chart). my bad.

one thing that can be done to improve flow out from the Red/Green lots (down hill via Suptian (sp)) is to use the 2nd lane on River Road towards 287. They block off the inbound lane all the way up towards the Quick Chek by 287..but they don't use it to have folks exit out that way. It just remains empty and open. They could simply have a 2 lane flow out on River and then either just let cars merge into one lane way up there or put a cop there to control 1 lane at a time to alternate flow out at that end.

Bingo! This was the nice way of saying STFU you whiny babies, as we have 1 of the best parking/tailgating situations.

One of the best ideas I've seen in years was on these boards last year and had to do with the parking space allotment in Yellow & Blue (maybe Green as well). The idea was to give more space to each car in the first several rows (these people get there early and have larger tailgates). Then pack the cars tightly together in the remainder of the lot (later arrivals who often don't tailgate at all).

If they make us park closer, I will be going out the back tailgate. Everyone should have the same space since we all pay they same for the pass.

That was me and don't think RU will try and implement.

Not sure they can use both lanes of River Rd heading north toward 287. People live on River Rd. I don't know if you can tell them they can't have access to their houses. More importantly, there needs to be a lane for emergency vehicles to head south on River Rd.

If River Rd were multiple lanes, you could convert all lanes except one to northbound. Or if River Rd had no residential buildings, there would be no need to keep a southbound lane. But the way it is now, I think they need to maintain at least one lane in each direction.

Nor do I. It would alienate the majority of the folks parking in the lot. Mostly because it's kind of an inverse application of the 80/20 rule. It would be solving a not terrible problem for fewer than 20% of the folks in the lots at the expense of over 80% of the folks in the lot.

There's no great advantage to the football program to have people arrive in the lots any earlier, so why incentivize it? People paying to be in a particular lot will not appreciate it - they will feel cheated, which is probably a justified feeling given they are paying the same amount as the early arrivals.

They'd do better to focus on getting more people into the stadium earlier because they can sell more concessions and gear.

they close it off now with a barrier (and barriers all along the feeder roads onto River road) so folks living there can't get thru now anyway. I believe they make them turn left just past the Qucik chek and come in from behind..not direct off of RRoad. There is a shoulder on both sides of River Road so emergency vehicles could easily get thru. The lanes are all just sitting there empty.

If there is an alternate route along a parallel side street for people to access their homes, and if the shoulder (or alternate route) can accommodate emergency vehicles, then I can't think of any reason not to use both lanes northbound.

This was brought up at the first meeting of the Fan Adv Board. They looked into it there were too many homes affected. They brought out maps and showed the problems it make.

I was one of the biggest loudmouths at those meetings about parking and exiting but got to give them credit for every solution we thought we had they had a very good response of why not. I think one of the first fixes you will see is to make Fitch road a true two way road and bus roundabout and that is where they will push the bus traffic back and forth to the RAC. Once that is done it will relieve so many other issues at other lots especially the blue lot. They have that in the works.
