Franklin Big Ten Coach of the Year?

prompts several thoughts -
(1.) does this put Franklin one step closer to making a move (NFL) for more $$$ ?
(2.) if this happens ... some where Harbaugh has to be wailing - "It should be ME"!!!

Why is this thread on a Rutgers forum?
Because it is Fear and Self-Loathing time in Scarlet Nation, where we lick our wounds, are green with envy at the fortunes of other teams, prognosticate how Al Freaking Golden would have worked wonders for us and dream big dreams of winning 3 games next year with our shitty talent and/or coaching. I need a prozac and a drink.

Regardless his personality, he and his staff have done one hell of a job this year.
No doubt. Hard to tell if losing Shoop, losing that statue of a QB Hack, or gaining Moorhead was the trick for you guys, or if it was a combination. But it all clicked. I attribute it most of it to McSorley--the kid is a baller.

Unlike that straight shooter Kyle Flood, amirite?

Your tears are delicious.
Jealous because, unlike Flood , Franklin wears his Nit gear to the meetings he doesn't want to be recognized at.[winking]

Franklin deserves it. He won the Big 10 East. This board is laughable with the bashing and downplaying beating Ohio State

I agree with Bac. As was mentioned on the broadcast last night, there wasn't one single "hot seat" list at the beginning of the season that didn't have Franklin's name on it. We may not like the guy, but he put together a hell of a season.

I agree with Real, who agrees with bac, and Dr. Samuel Johnson is right about Olson Johnson's being right.
Franklin's seat was hot after losing to Pitt. Nice job recovering.

I'm not going to judge the man's personality because I don't know him. But it's irrelevant, because the award isn't for being the most altruistic person or anything of that nature. If it was, Randy Edsall would have been in the running every year.

edit: I actually wrote a long post in which I tried to ensure that nobody thought I was Penn State sycophant despite my two ass-kissing posts from yesterday and today. My feelings on that subject pre-date anything Sandusky. But I decided "why make it all about me?"[banana]

He deserves it, but like while at his previous job he made a living off of weak teams. They lost to their only P5 opponent OOC, they didn't have to play Nebraska or Wisconsin from the other division, and they got embarrassed by Michigan. Except for a freak play win over Ohio State they don't have a single top quality win this year. Contrast that with Ohio State, which beat Oklahoma at Oklahoma, and two Top Ten teams with Michigan and Wisconsin, plus destroyed Nebraska.

Are you fvcking kidding me? He beat OSU and absolutely demolished an Iowa team that beat UM.

Some of you will come up with any excuse imaginable rather than give the guy credit. We got lucky on our cross division games but took care of business and made remarkable improvement from the early season with a defense that was inexperienced and, at times, decimated by injuries.

BTW, Pitt was on the road and the second game of the season with a very, young and inexperienced team. We lost by a FG...not 30 points.

There was one faction that said he was never on the hot seat and that was PSU fans themselves...and that was after starting 2-2. This team has absolutely no business being 10-2. Just a wonderful coaching job.

THis is just ridiculous. They beat Iowa and Minnesota, two 8-4 B1G teams, in addition to beating tOSU, on more than a "freak play."

Sorry, no. Nobody but Nit fans think their team is in the same league as Ohio State this year. Check all the rankings. Iowa and Minnesota are not Michigan, Wisconsin and Oklahoma. Next.

Let's be real here. If we beat Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana this year, we would have had plenty of fans running around here, puffing out their chests and saying how we are a middle of the pack B1G team. It's what fans do. PSU beat tOSU fair and square and have every right to say they are better than them. How else do you judge their relative merit?

Love or hate him this got to penn state from losing to temple to likely big ten champs playing for national title game
Penn State lost to Temple because the NCAA hobbled the program. Penn State is a step away from the Big Ten title game because the NCAA failed to do the proper and moral thing by permanently hobbling that horror of a program.

"Likely" Big Ten Champs? Just curious by what measure you're calling their victory in the title game a "likely" occurrence.

What was laughable was your defense of Julie. If up to you, she would still be our AD.

I hope that PSU locks in Franklin for years and years. In reality, he's clueless, just has good coordinators this year. When they leave for better opportunities, PSU will be stuck with PenisHead.

... yeah, because with approximately one week's worth of State College DNA in his entire body, he disrespected Rutgers in a way that makes it pretty clear what kind of regard for Rutgers people.

I'll let you in on a secret. Good coaches make good coordinator hires.

But please, hate on.

Well, we play Wisky so we will see how that pans out. PSU isn't afraid of Oklahoma either. The B12 blows.

He dissed us the same way, in the same sentence if I'm not mistaken. It's what coaches do. I wasn't bothered by it.

The best revenge is living well -- I mean, keeping recruits home...

Again, I'm not asking your opinion of his demeanor...but I do think he has learned a lot over the past year and been humbled a bit. I'm asking you to judge what he has done with his staff and his team.

To be fair, I think his -- like most people's -- defense of Hermann was merely a reflexive reaction to the angry, toothless, misogynistic harangues against her posted in fora (forums?) like this one.

Agreed, and I've been watching for a number of years. He probably said a few things he regretted when he arrived in State College, but he's been pretty cool since then. I actually felt myself liking the guy yesterday when I saw the unadulterated joy (nearly tackled his assistant!) at a Spartan turnover that sort of sealed the deal.

But just to clarify -- I'm a guy who said he SHOULD be coach of the year.

A very good coach that's about to become great. Penn States recruiting classes have not been ridiculously great. So let's give credit where credit is due. A win against Wisconsin I see PSU going to the playoffs. The Nittnay Lions will be on the prowl for honey badgers in the B10 Championship game.

So, Kyle Flood was a good coach when Fridge was OC or when Robb Smith was the DC? LOL. PSU hit the lottery with Moorhead, but he'll get better offers sooner rather than later.
