Franklin Big Ten Coach of the Year?

A very good coach that's about to become great. Penn States recruiting classes have not been ridiculously great. So let's give credit where credit is due. A win against Wisconsin I see PSU going to the playoffs. The Nittnay Lions will be on the prowl for honey badgers in the B10 Championship game.

How about starting with more honesty? Like you admitting that you are a PSU troll. Maybe some here are fooled by the "RU" in your name, but not me.

So, Kyle Flood was a good coach when Fridge was OC or when Robb Smith was the DC? LOL. PSU hit the lottery with Moorhead, but he'll get better offers sooner rather than later.

Except Moorhead was our second best coordinator.

I hope he does get an offer for a P5 program after next year. Sorry, but I don't have a scarcity mentality.

Perhaps you should, though, after Franklin needed for fire his longtime OC last year for incompetence.

GSGS: I'm not a Rutgers fan because I complement a team that was left for dead just 6 years ago and may be playing in the playoffs this year. I'm not a Rutgers fan because you're jealous and envious of an institution (Penn State University) whose leadership decided to stand up to the the NCAA, pay James Franklin 4+ million per year plus hire competent coordinators!! Trust me I'm the same frustrated Rutgers fan you are, just a little more experienced and sophisticated. I usually would not administer such a strong verbal reprimand unless it was warranted. Don't let your frustration attack a poster whose been going to RU games for the past 4 decades.

Well said, RU. I'm far from a Penn State fan, but there's a lot to admire and even enjoy about what they've done on the field and sidelines this year...

Well, he could have pulled an Al Golden and refused to fire him. Not sure your point.

Love or hate him this got to penn state from losing to temple to likely big ten champs playing for national title game
He deserves it. While BoB gets credits for starting rebuilding, Franklin notched it up. Where Penn St was to become irrelevant after Pedophile-Gate, we became irrelevant. This country easily forgives even the worst of people (and that I say sadly as I see what is emerging in America today).

I've said this many, many times on here before but what OB and Franklin faced in terms of actual football were two very different things. OB had it made in regards to actual football talent in 2012. Franklin got the worst of it when it came to the actual talent on the team.

That being said, OB had the pressure from the immediacy of the scandal. Franklin did not.

Are you fvcking kidding me? He beat OSU and absolutely demolished an Iowa team that beat UM.

Some of you will come up with any excuse imaginable rather than give the guy credit. We got lucky on our cross division games but took care of business and made remarkable improvement from the early season with a defense that was inexperienced and, at times, decimated by injuries.

BTW, Pitt was on the road and the second game of the season with a very, young and inexperienced team. We lost by a FG...not 30 points.
PSU demolished an Iowa team that beat UM would be great if PSU didn't play UM. But we all saw the result of that game. The coach that wins the B1G will take home the award.

GSGS and RUChip said the same thing to me that they said to you. Any team can be discussed on our board except Penn State for them.

Based on the negative posts here re: Franklin, it sounds like we're bashing him because of the horror of a program that he had nothing to do with, and because he seems to have a smug, swarmy personality. Geez, look at the successful coaches who are a**holes: Harbaugh, Saban (listen to his interviews), Chip, Spurrier, Bo, Woody, etc.
I think O'Brien gets a lot of credit for starting to turn the PSU ship around, but Franklin is hands down the coach of the year for taking a poorly-recruited team to the top. Or, to put it another way, who else would we give it to: Urban (lost to Franklin), maybe Chryst, and even maybe Indiana's coach.

Even if penn state wins the champ game, they're out of the playoff
Completely agree their cross over schedule strength and OOC games are abysmal. Kent St., Temple, Pitt, Purdue, Iowa, Minnesota aren't going to move the needle and they lost one. They've only played two ranked teams to date and got rocked by one. The B1G(crossover last two year Illinois and Northwestern) and their weak OCC schedules have had a lot to do with helping their rebuild.

Thank you Extra Point. I love our program, I believe we all love our Rutgers Scarlet Knights. But unfortunately our loyalty will only go so far. Penn State on the other hand is a perfect example of an institution that knew exactly how to make a comeback after the Sandusky tragedy. In my humble opinion our Govenor, President Barchi and the BOT need to take pride in our program, not treat it like a painful thorn that gets in the way of other important issues. How are we to attract new donors, new season ticket holders and advertisers when we hire a HC with no head coaching experience and coordinators with less experience than that of coach Ash that finished year one with a 2-10 season. I honestly don't understand the philosophy, maybe someone can explain it to me.

All PSU scenarios being talked about would include a win over Wisconsin. So given that, PSU would be 2-1 against teams in the Top 10, 3-2 against teams ranked in the top 25 (Iowa and Pitt currently ranked in top 25) and Temple is about 30th in both polls out according to votes received. BTW, Minnesota also received votes.

There is not many teams that are going to have a resume that good assuming a Wisconsin win. Maybe 5 or 6, maybe. Plus, they haven't lost since September (8 straight) and tOSU is their only win in the last 7 by less then 14 points. If you have watched PSU, tOSU and Michigan over the past month or so, you'd be hard pressed to say one is clearly superior to the other during this time.

Clemson, Washington and tOSU all deserve to go ahead of them IMO, but if a Wisconsin win happens they will probably finish 5th in the rankings - deservedly.

What was laughable was your defense of Julie. If up to you, she would still be our AD.

I hope that PSU locks in Franklin for years and years. In reality, he's clueless, just has good coordinators this year. When they leave for better opportunities, PSU will be stuck with PenisHead.
They pay very well. A million dollars to be a coordinator is fantastic why leave?

Guess I better be careful when I say Franklin proved better than I claimed he was and Penn St is getting close to being a top program under him.
With that and stating my feeling the jury should still be out on if Ash's hiring was a good one, while not attacking Penn St on football related issues might just cause some to put me in the same category as you and trap.
