#FreeHaydenRettig

Pretty disheartening to think where we might be with him having gotten experience these last few games.

Our team has very little energy. The fastest way to change that is to make big plays. The way to make big plays is putting in the guy who can throw the ball.

Pretty disheartening considering our quarterback is currently ranked third in the Big Ten and its still not good enough for some fans. But hey let's listen to the armchair quarterbacks in stead of the real coaches

In some ways I almost hope that Reddig does get a chance, and underperforms just so some of you people will shut up

Joe Montana made a living off of 3-15 yard passes. There are a lot of quarterbacks currently in the NFL who live that way as well. Since when does throwing the ball deep mean anything. Short passes with the occasional deep ball is how the game is played.

He made 2 mistakes today outside of that he was very good. Let's not forget he is a red shirt sopbmore here

That's all some of us who have refrained from actually picking sides in this want. If the Quarterback competition between Laviano and Rettig was reportedly so damn close coming into the season, and both clearly showed different positive tangibles in halves of play vs. FCS Norfolk State, why are we so stubbornly sticking to one?? I at least would like to see what Rettig could do, and not when down by 49 versus Ohio State/MSU.

At least Montana got respect because he could throw deep.On many of the short completions he was late & damn near got his receivers killed.Laviano could not even light up one of the worst teams in the nation, that was short handed.I think he was miserable. There is no upside to this guy that I see.You can't teach arm strength .While under pressure he throws it up for grabs. He constantly misses open guys.I won't go on ,because he will continue to play, regardless of what he does on the field.

I certainly don't want any RU player to fail. But, I think Rettig needs to get a chance to start a game to succeed or fail, just to see if he can do better than the current situation. The two QBs by all accounts were neck and neck in the Summer. The offense has not thrived under CL even against bad defenses. It may not be his fault at all. But, they have different strengths. I just don't understand Flood's complete aversion to playing both QBs to see if Rettig can offer something different to propel this offense forward.

There's a difference between some deep balls and the inability to throw the ball out of the back of the end zone

Curious that someone looking to defend a player would hope that another player fails or underperforms.

Perhaps two mistakes you saw but how about reads he didn't make?

My money's on the armchair QBs vs the "real" head coach who has no credibility in handling QBs.

Just let him into a game. If he sucks, he sucks and Flood can laugh in my face and everyone else's by saying he was right. But he'll never get a chance to succeed or show what he's got if they don't give it to him. Just give him a shot for crying out loud.

I understand your rationale on saying that statistically Laviano did well

I think the reason so many people want to see what Rettig has is that we likely can't win important games without throwing the ball downfield. And it seems our starter is so suspect at it, that our OC won't even call vertical plays. This is not a recipe for success

Look, Rettig may come in and suck monkey nuts. Probably not, but none of us know since his ONLY SNAPS WERE AGAINST NORFOLK EFFING STATE!! and that's the issue. This staff should be taken to the woodshed for failing to get rettig meaningful snaps through the first 4 games

To me, it is gross incompetence...and that's being kind.

I simply don't get it at all.

Did you watch the game on tv or live at the stadium? Because watching on tv you do not see the entire field. You also do not see that Laviano continues to throw the under neath route even when that is not the most open of the options. There were multiple times today where there were deeper options open where he did not make the throw. There were other times that he made no throw at all when there were clearly open receivers. Just don't think he sees the field well nor can he make many of the throws

The announcers made numerous references to missing guys open down the field. Laviano doesn't even attempt to hit those guys. Agudosi had mismatches all day. How many balls did he get, even though they stacked the box daring us to go over the top? It was open season on big plays and we hit 0. We attempted 0.

Laviano is ultimate low risk low reward. You don't and won't beat teams with more talent than you playing that way.

Even on the Agudosi TD he underthrew the fade.

Agudosi should have had 3 td's today. He was beasting their db's, beating them all over the field.

It's amazing how 99% of the fans - myself included since the Norfolk State game - all understand that this should be Rettig's team.

The last 2 games - at PSU and today vs Kansas - were not good performances by our current QB.

I feel bad for Rettig.

I feel bad for Rettig also. Laviano hasn't shown me anything on the field that makes him the best QB for this team. His best production came when Carroo was playing in the Norfolk St game. IN that same game I thought Rttig had a better command of the offense and the flow of the game.

I want to see Rettig in the game immediately!! I do not think Flood is getting it done when it comes to personnel decision making

This is all on Flood. Open receivers waiting to receive. Laviano is just not a good decision maker. Forget about the long ball, he can't even make short passes to open receivers. He might know the play book, but is unable to adjust to opportunities during a play. He is not a good ab. Period. Maybe the same is true of Rettig, but we will never know under Flood. I think when we stand at 2-8, and it is too late for Flood to recover, the recruiting class has evaporated, Flood will be gone. Would NW be coaching in the Flood style if Flood was already gone? Right know he is just carrying out Floods crappy conservative game plan. Some on these boards have been saying Flood will be gone during the upcoming off week. I would like to think it will happen so we can move away from this Flood disaster sooner rather than later.
