“Fire him? That’s ridiculous,” Friedgen said in a phone call with The Record. “They’re not going to get a more honest guy than Kyle, no matter who they hire. These are 18- to 22-year-old kids. It’s like raising your sons. Sometimes they don’t do the right thing. Kyle is an optimistic guy, I’ve never seen a guy more optimistic than him. He wants what’s best for the kids.

“I believe in this guy as a person, I believe in him as a coach, I don’t know what more you could ask for. If I had a son, I’d want him to play for Kyle Flood because of his integrity.

“If I didn’t believe in him as a person, do you think I’d be talking to you? This is a raw deal. He has a good career ahead of him and I’d hate to see this hurt that career.”

wow .. a reasonable voice from someone that actually works with and knows the man professionally.

To the guys who sit behind keyboards and type "Fire everyone" in the first sign of trouble everytime .. don't think anyone would stand up and say this for them if their job was on the line or in question!!

enough said. We do this, build people up and then try to find ways to tear them down. Whether he can coach or not will be played out but he is definitely a man of integrity and there aren't many more honest coaches.
I can't wait to move out of NJ. I'll still go to RU games, but NJ is a cesspool of degenerate journalists and politicians looking to bring Rutgers down. I've had enough.

Too many high quality people vouching for Kyle to let this hurt him. He can't control the actions of kids.

Well that's something. Love it.

It's part of the reason I'm on the Philly 'burbs now....still close enough to go to games (less than 1.5 hours away.)

It doesn't help. As a Rutgers Alumni and fan I still get to read all the crap from the NJ media.

The really ironic thing is this. Rutgers is the best thing New Jersey can claim as its own. So despite what Tara Sullivan thinks, it is the group of NJ people forever trying to tear it down that have no brains.

Living now in Maryland the difference between the media support of the state University, state support of the state University and fan/alum support of the state University is night and day compared to NJ and Rutgers.

One of the MAJOR reasons I have become a regular donor to Rutgers is I am not sure I know a Terp alum who is NOT a donor. Moved down here 15 years ago and The folks I met here were shocked I didn't donate to Rutgers. So I started. Both The washington Post and Baltimore Sun as well as local radio will be critical when appropriate but pretty much line up in support of U of Maryland. State support is considerable. You would have a hard time getting elected if you weren't behind the funding of U of Maryland.

Politi is a clown. He should be pushing for his alma mater, North Carolina to do the right thing and fire Roy Williams and their football coach.
He's probably upset that his alma mater lost to USCe last night and decided to write a few more negative articles as a result. I found myself cheering loudly for the latter at the bar last night..

Good to know at least somebody has the balls to speak on Flood's behalf while everybody else chooses to be silent and respect the process.....and leak certain information instead.

Nice to see fridge step up and support Kyle. However he probably doesn't know much more than we do about what really happened.

Maybe Flood saw a decimated secondary when he gave second chances to players that he shouldnt have? It happens all the time in CFB. protect the best players regardless of their behavior. or maybe he truly cared for the players and was gonna stand behind them. I trust flood tried to do the right thing. but im sure some have a longer leash than others.

He can't control the actions of kids BUT, when one of the team captains says on twitter "I think Rutgers needs a one strike rule for its players going forward." maybe Flood should also question it?

Being an anti-twitter person, which team captain said this? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

it was posted by some fan with a Longa picture, its not actually the player. just searched the words and found it.

I heart fridge

When you have an AD who said that she wants to see the SL shut down, it's tough to maintain good relations with the SL.

What? Maybe I misunderstand what your saying. They were arrested yesterday. The crimes happened in April. He is letting the police do their job which is a hell of a lot more then most college coaches do. Its not his job to confront criminal issues its his job to let the police their job and convey what ever information he knows to the police and to the AD.

Problem is that these guys were arrested in April. He just sits on that info the whole time? He's protecting them by not confronting the issue? Doesn't sound like strong leadership.
The players were arrested yesterday 09/03, and as soon as he got wind of a police investigation, Flood reported it to the RU Athletic administration last spring. You may have tied or set a new record for the most blatantly misinformed post ever.

I think we are now getting to the point that we don't need any relations with the Star-Ledger--I don't think they put one fan in the seats or help at all with recruiting. If anything, they do the opposite. Rutgers needs to get all the information on to scarletknights.com and have that become THE main source of information AND start a statewide Rutgers TV channel.

That speaks volumes.

I just don't understand the lack of pride in Rutgers. One thing is true though, in 2006 Rutgers fans were crawling out of the woodwork. I think successful sports has a lot to do with the pride of a state university.

You really believe that none of the criminal investigation leaked back to RU people? The NPD is clam tight? What about the RU students? They didn't know they were attacked by players? The names were there. Dozens of people knew who did what? Nixon/Hillary/ Flood didn't know? C'mon, man.

I am so glad I did not raise my kids in NJ. The place just oozes negativity and self pity. The portrayals of NJ on TV are so deserving when it's own media validates its gutter thinking environment.

A couple of weeks ago I met an alum that is a C level executive for a major national firm that everyone has heard of. I was attending their corporate charity event. Recent business reports mentioned this person had recently cashed out stock options worth 8 figures. During the evening the conversation came to my support for Rutgers. I mentioned it was not much but I had given alma mater a check for at least 35 consecutive years. Someone else at the table asked the C executive how much they had given back. This was literally the response.

They had nothing bad to say about RU, and were quite positive about their time on the Banks. I just don't get it.

First of all, I have no confidence that if the New Brunswick Police Department were investigating this, they would leak or notify Rutgers of anything in advance prior to issuing arrest warrants. They see the University (especially areas of high student concentration off-campus) as a ticket money-making machine, and have had issues with corruption and lawsuits for misconduct related to both residents and RU students in the past.

Secondly, let's hypothetically assume that the investigation was compromised and some information was leaked or otherwise unofficially conveyed to Flood or the athletic department. If you hear about 4 of your players under investigation for involvement in a fight (even now details are sketchy as to who provoked it and whether it was group vs. group or group vs. individual); that does not necessarily justify the players' suspension and leaves the university vulnerable to lawsuits. Even suspending Boggs for his more heinous crimes of armed robbery, under the guise of misconduct, would have been a slippery slope because he wasn't arrested and formally charged up until now.

I actually agree with the third portion of your post, but that's unfortunately politics and a pointless strawman in relation to the discussion here.
