Was reading Todderick's article re: Kelvin Harmon's decommitment from USCe who mentioned G.A. Mangus was his main recruiter to South Carolina. Mangus has since been released from their staff (think new HC Will Muschamp is rebuilding his staff from scratch too).

Under Mangus, USCe could count on snagging one or two few high star recruits from NJ per year.

His official position down there was: "Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks/Tight Ends"

I have zero inside info. Just curious if anyone else had a strong opinion one way or the other on the guy.

I believe GA Mangus was the guy who was punished for being drunk while visiting a recruit or recruits. He is also apparently a hell of a recruiter. Tons of guys seem to list him as their lead recruiter every year.

Last kid Mangus got from NJ was Kaiwan Lewis in 2012. In 2011 he got Damiere Byrd, McEvoy, and Royster. McEvoy and Royster transferred. Did Byrd pan out down there? It's not that impressive, I'll pass considering his deficiencies.

He had Harmon this year before Spurrier retired and he got canned. BTW- Byrd did fairly well down there.

My concern is that on any team coached by Spurrier, the titles of OC/QB coach are essentially window dressing designed to justify a higher salary for someone performing another function. With Mangus it's recruiting. I do NOT want him in those positions when the HC has a background in defense.

I would love to have him on the banks! Great recruiter and is good with QBs... Maybe QB coach?

let PSU have him. downgrade at OC, and any guy who would get drunk before meeting a recruit ain't stellar quality. Ash will lock up NJ for the kids we want.

Given his designation as OC on a Steve Spurrier team was likely window dressing, the "downgrade at OC" part of his post was the most relevant to me.
