Game thread RU vs Maryland 02/9/20

Maryland has 3 highly rated New Jersey players on its roster. Rutgers WBB has only one New Jersey player.
What happened, did these players get recruited by RU?
Believe it or not some kids like to go away for college out of beautiful (ugh) NJ.

Not sure who you're talking about. Who's the top ten player? Again, Aliyah Boston for South Carolina was the top post(3rd ranked player). Maori was 2nd ranked Center(16th ranked player) behind her. If you've watched them both from day 1, you would agree.
Yes, Zippy was #23 ranked player. Do you realize, Maryland has the 7th, 17th, 32nd, and 80something ranked players from the same class. Also, the #4 ranked player in the 2018 class in Shakira Austin to go with Taylor Mikesell and another young lady at Owens at 33 & 34.
If you say that's an equal share of talent, then you're not being honest with yourself.
Also, btw, Arella was the 100th ranked player in her class. Of course, she is Number 1 in my book.

Mic drop ! (Great way to end your post)

Hobbs is in the same situation that Tim was in and the same situation that Julie was in. Both of them tried to push it off, Julie actually had a decent incentive contract but worked to cut the salary. Hobbs ended up increasing the salary why I dont know. Its clear that CVS is an athletic directors nightmare for a program that probably loses alot of money given how much has to be spent on salary giving poor declining attendance

for example I would assume that other programs have more outreach with their coaching staff to the community or radio show, media appearances, CVS had that earlier here at RU and it seems like that went away. Is RU womens hoops proactive in trying to get support. I would think a younger more energetic coach would be able to cultivate a fanbase whether it be through appearance or social media.
Just a correction - this has been mentioned numerous times in the past - it is hard to exactly analyze salaries and revenue, but salaries - even bloated ones - are usually offset by targeted revenue and has little to do with the take at the box. Actually, the take at the box doesn't do much to offset the expenses of trying to run a power 5 program. Attendance only becomes a factor when it is really significant - and in that case, it is often at the expense of the cost per ticket.

As to outreach, again, it is difficult to measure. As a currently popular program, Arizona is filling the restaurant for the "Adia Barnes Radio Show" each week - but it started (as I just read) with about 5 folks in the audience in a corner of the student building. What is the big difference I see? There is mention of the Women's Basketball Team in the paper daily. That of course includes the on-line editions. There have probably been 4 columns by the "sports columnist" in the last few weeks. And with a lot of Twitter followers and the like.

But Tucson is not New Jersey. I would add that Adia is charismatic to the max. I'm not sure anyone is describing Vivian that way.

KTF states,"I would add that Adia is charismatic to the max. I'm not sure anyone is describing Vivian that way.[/QUOTE]" Wow that is a pretty vicious statement from you. Can you back that up with some examples/articles because I never even heard of Adia. All I ever hear about CVS from the entire BB world minus a few folks is totally opposite." If she is so miserable how has she made it in the WBB world for 50 years?

LOL, only thing very evident in this thread is people you never, ever see here come over after a loss. I'm on here good, or bad. You have your account since 2003, and only have posted 242 in total. "The game has passed her by." Come up with a new, or creative remark, please.

rightttt, so of you are so pathetically desperate on here. She’s needs to move on. This team is underperforming and hard to watch. There is no denying that. Keeping her around is a Mulcahy move that buried all of our teams unnecessarily. Giving coaches lifetime deals based on results from ten + years ago is bad for business.

Whoa. I really, really like Vivian personally and as a coach. She is very gracious and pleasant to folks, I have always enjoyed talking to her, think she has done great things and all the rest. I think it is a true comment, not a knock. And it has nothing to do with being miserable. I have not an ounce of charisma and I'm not miserable at all.

Charisma is something else entirely. You either have it or you don't. And maybe it is subjective. From what I've heard, TG reportedly had it, and Adia Barnes has it in spades. Tara doesn't seem to have an ounce of it, "Q" reportedly does, and I could go on. In fact, it probably is a bit subjective, since some folks find Geno charismatic. It isn't being likable, it is folks being predisposed to like you. And in large part, Vivian's appeal I don't believe is "innate" I believe it is something she has generated and earned by her life and actions.

Just to add, being charismatic doesn't equate to being good, lots of crooks are reportedly charismatic. But regarding the comment I was replying to, the poster wants a future coach to have that attractive quality.

For the record, here's the definition: compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others.

i was at the game yesterday. I tend to think of my expectations as fairly realistic and I fully expected a loss as MD has one of the most talented rosters in the country, but I did not expect us to play quite as badly as we did. Against better competition, our offense has become Arella forcing herself to try to score on almost every possession, while being double and triple teamed. Yesterday, she turned the ball over 7 times while trying to do this against MD. This just isn't a winning offensive formula. I don't know if she is being coached to do this or she has lost confidence in her teammates ability to score. Something needs to change.

I did feel a little bit better about our performance after watching the AZ State / Oregon game last night. #19 AZ State scored 2 points in the first quarter and did not score again until about 4 minutes into the 2nd quarter. They trailed 27-15 at the half and lost 79-48. It put our loss in perspective for me.
