game thread

First half was NOT surprising....first half of the first game with lots of guys playing their first College Game. That normally results in some turnovers, fouls.....Regardless of the opponent, D1 or D3. Guys are gonna be nervous and press.

Second half they are now relaxed....Result, blowout win.

Outscoring them 33-11

Freeman is a REALLY good two way player. Can't remember the last RU player I could say that about. Farmer maybe.

Freeman with 2 lay-ups and a dunk in 3 consecutive trips. Stuff like this is feasible?

Freeman works hard on defense. If that rubs off on Foreman we may be on to something.

I would love to hear about Goode getting the opportunity to take some more shots down the stretch....he hit one 3 pointer in the first half.

While GRFIG will, rightfully, hate the first Half defense we have only given up 20 points in 18 minutes in the 2nd half. A lot of that is Freeman.

I hate to compare last year to this year and the perimeter game of one of the big guys that is now gone.........BUT.....48 points in the Paint. LOVE IT !!! and the 18 ASSISTS.

I'm waiting for FIG and HIGGINS......to hear their assessment of the team, assuming they attended the game. I'm stuck in Columbus Ohio and had to listen on the radio.

Grier looked pretty solid too.. Fairly athletic and composed veteran player, and had a nice stroke from 3.. Could see him playing a lot of the 3 spot, a little undersized for the 3 but can play

Laurent looked like a freshman, played aggressive but was out of control on the offensive end

Yes...much better in half 2.

Given the fact no Sanders or Freeman I'll try to give pass.

Replacing Goode minutes with Sanders for Defense..........

All I will say is Goode is very slow defensively.

FIG, Very ? Is it possible they can cover any weakness by playing zone when he is in. I listened on the radio but he sounded like he hit a few shots and made some nice passes.

How did his shot look ? Typically, you can look at a guys form, release, etc and tell if he has the makings of a "Goode" shooter .

FIG....Any chance we will get a long writeup from you about this game? I respect your basketball knowledge (even if we disagree at times) and would love to hear your overall assessment and individual assessments. If not, I'll wait until I see Sunday's game.

Was at the game and actually I don't agree. Though he is not explosive, Goode moved his feet well and his positioning was good (no pun intended) on defense. He needs to be more aggressive on offense and look for his shot more.

Sorry but it's true. Freeman plays solid defense & is efficient on offense. He actually contributes to ball movement, unlike Jack, who mostly just 'went to work' when he got the ball. Jack had a few games where he flashed NBA potential. I wish he had more than a few.

Tonight the 1st half was frustrating, but we looked very good in the 2nd half. The team looked more relaxed & more patient on offense, while playing better defense.

Goode played fairly well but took a lot of lumps on defense & on the boards.

Diallo needs to keep his hands straight up on D. Showed flashes though.

Williams was a beast. He was my favorite player last year despite his shooting struggles. Maximum effort, and now the game is slowing down & shots are falling.

Bishop Daniels plays hard but still produces puzzling shot attempts & turnovers. I prefer him coming off the bench.

Overall, much better ball movement & defense than last year. Keep it up. And please keep using the press. Especially when we're at a talent disadvantage (eg most of our league games).

Goode looks to have a nice shot and also looks solid at the foul line. Both things this team desperately needs and things that should earn him minutes.

Bishop Daniels just does not appear to be consistent enough to warrant a starting role. As many on the board have mentioned in the past, his best role is probably off the bench and if he is hitting his shot than take advantage and ride hot hand.

Looked to me like Williams made a conserted effort right from start of game to hit some threes and get some long range confidence back after the past struggles, but for whatever reason the long range shot just has not been working for him. Good news is that he was money again from close range and maybe should just nix the 3 from his game for a while.

Lastly, Sanders and Freeman should be fun to watch, looking forward to Sunday!
