Good thing its rhetorical because I don't know - BUT - could it be the same reason that Chicago State is in the WAC?

I think after the football schools left the WAC it became a minor conference ( more than it was when it had football conference games) but it had an automatic qualifier to NCAA Tourney and that why Chicago St and Missouri Kansas City joined.
Since there are only 8 schools in that conference ( for basketball) , think it is hard pressed for membership and welcomed those programs with open arms.
