I'm not blaming anyone here, but I wanted to share some thoughts. And see what you all think on the topic.

For the last few off season’s there have been rumblings that players were given “a talk” about transferring so we can bring in other transfers through the portal (Simpson, Wolf, ETC). I don't think these guys would necessarily magically make us a top-tier team (nor am I making this about their stats at their new schools). But part of me feels like not having those three-year veterans who have been around this system for three years is a huge misjudgment from a continuity standpoint.

For football, Schiano’s strategy with a small NIL budget has been to focus on retaining players and making sure they are developed in his system. And that has led them to have veterans that understand the system and are able to pass it on.. I believe he refers to this strategy as “the pipeline”

Maybe this strategy dosent work in CBB? I know the roster turnover is crazy nationwide but it feels like everyone we play in conference has a staple guy or two whose name I've heard on broadcasts for years.

Keep me Grant, Lathan and Dortch!!!

We were one of only 8 schools to get the $1 million dollar prize in that NIL tourney this year. We’ll be in it again next year, so more $$. We’ll likely be in the NIL post season one this year too, so even more $$$ .. it’s still not enough to fend off an offer like Alabama’s $2 mill for Cliff, buy don’t be traumatized by that, that was for a center monster, Grant and Lathan we should hopefully have the $$ for

Grant and Sommerville are likely not even here to begin with if guys haven't "got the talk".

We literally did not have enough scholarships for the 5 freshman.
Only 4 graduating seniors. Even if everyone wanted to return (Clif, Mag, Simpson) HC Pike was going to force someone out.

How much are Dean Reiber, Antonio Chol, Jalen Miller and Woolf really adding to the team?

Schiano is much better at this. Pike seems to be in over his head.

I don't mind him giving guys like Simpson and Wolf the talk. They probably don't belong at this level.

But you can't then go out and replace them with other guys who aren't at this level.

Ideally he needs to do a better job of evaluating talent to begin with. Some of the other guys already mentioned ITT are barely D1 players at all.

For sure agreed here. That's why Im saying at least they would have the plus side of knowing the system and being able to reach that to the young guys. If your telling guys to leave you can't sacrifice the continuity for players of the same pedigree

Dylan is the only guard on the roster I'd rather have than Simpson rn.
I’d still take Williams over him (defense and not hoisting threes) but for the rest) it wasn’t as obvious when Pike needed to make decisions. On paper and scouting, the transfers seemed like upgrades.

Exactly what I was thinking. Were Wolf and Simpson future all B1G players? No, definitely not. But the fact the our plan B was Many O be our starting center and Martini start at the 4. Meanwhile Hayes can’t see the floor because he’s just not athletic enough and lord knows what Derkack’s role is. It’s a major major miss. Really not pleased with what Pike did. I don’t want him fired. I just wish he didn’t screw up this year. What Maryland did in the paint today was predicatable

I am still uncertain as to how that NIL money from those tournaments work. Does it all get split to the current roster or does it go to the school for future recruits?

We fired under performing employees and hired employees from other companies who have turned out to be just as under performing.

It's bad management, don't over complicate it. You can keep Simpson here for 8 years, he was not a B1G guard.
Simple as this

That’s the thing. They really didn’t when you dig into some of the efficiency numbers. I’ve made it clear I don’t like those much at the team level for field selection but they generally seem to correlate very well when it comes to success at the next level moving up from a mid-major conference. The efficiency numbers (at least explain why) there was no reason to believe guys like Acuff or PJ Hayes would translate up the way Cam Spencer did.

Bottom line Rutgers is competing in a power conference with many players talent better suited for a lower level of competition. Its hard to justify such poor 3 point shooting. Basic fundamentals such as passing, dribbling ,rebounding and man to man defense are lacking on this team. There should be no surprise the record is 12-12 even with two elite freshmen.A very disappointing season.
