Geo Baker was interviewed by And Katz last night after men's hoops beat Miami on the road. Geo stated with conviction "we all came here to win" and yet RU didn't have 1 road win last year and won their 1st game on the road after being huge underdogs at Miami

Pike inherited a train wreck with horrible facilities compared to football and from the get go he recruited players who like him and his staff believed with a ton of hard work 'they would win.' He instilled a 'winning culture' even when the team didn't win many games in the last 2 years that paid off BIG TIME last night and will in the future as well.

His players play tough D, give it their all for all 40 minutes, show constant improvement and he shows no favoritism. Pike also has put together one of the premier coaching staffs in the country.

Pike instilled a 'winning culture' from Day 1. Winning coaches create a winning culture' from Day 1 even when they inherit a train wreck. Most recently at Rutgers Schiano did it and Pike did it.
Even when they were losing they believed they could and would win!

This is the difference between basketball and football.....both coaches inherited train wrecks of programs BUT Pike created a 'winning culture' from Day 1 and this is a key criteria for success (in sport, business or life). A 'winning culture' even when you are not winning has yet to be created by Ash and staff after 3 years.

Sadly, it's way too late for Ash & Co to try to do that after year 3, as the culture Ash has created for the football team and it's fan base is the exact opposite of the one Pike and Schiano created at RU from Day 1.

Pickiell inherited a much tougher situation, we have not been to the NCAA in these players' lives. Ash inherited a team that went to bowl games all but twice in the prior decade.

I think Hobbs wants to run with the nice results in bball for now but football drives the bus and he can't save himself with distraction.

You make some good points, but please don’t refer to basketball as a distraction. It was a key sport that was neglected for too many years in favor of football. Unfortunately, given our tough financial position, that was necessary to grease the skids into the B1G. But the truth is, some of the best history in RU sports belongs to men’s and women’s hoops.

Very different indeed. Coach Pike and his players remind me very much of the Coach Brecht and the men's lax squad. There was every reason to not advance the ball and be competitive, but they didn't use those excuses. They used the small advantages they had while working on all the deficiencies, and became competitive and started winning games. Both were head coaches at smaller schools and built those programs up to the point of chosen for NCAA tourney.

They talk about about winning. Save the process stuff for the team, which is exactly what it is. Fans don't want to hear that stuff. That all translates to the players and how they think and speak.

I’m happy with LAX’s progress, but you are becoming Boomer with the Rangers with these posts.

The progress I think we are headed towards is a tribute to the combination of a competent coach and first class facility investment. That should truly take shape in the outcome of the 2020 recruiting class.
