Grad Transfer froM Baylor to Visit This Week

Been ravaged by injuries and doesn't look like he's ever played a minute of college ball. At this point, though, why not take a chance on a 6'11 kid who was a top 150 player out of high school. Great academic record as well.

Never played at Baylor, had four hip related surgeries, healthy now he says. And has two years of Eligibility remaining, according to Jeff Goodman ESPN, visited Ga Tech and Clemson in May

This guy apparently has 2 years of eligibility left as a grad student. That concerns me a bit as it could tie up a scholarship for 2 years and we might only have one scholarship left for 2017 which would be Baker if we also bring in Eugene Omoruyi.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that...... I think coach realizes this. Valid point, but I don't think coach is going to tie up ships with guys who can't play.

It says the staff is preparing for potential attrition and wants to keep it's options open to have as good 2016 as humanly possible with as close to a full roster....I don't think this has much if any impact on 2017 spots, this grad transfer can move on after a year, despite having 2 years to use....

People clamored for a grad transfer and it's not former Kansas and Nebraska stud Andrew White, but my guess is we are looking for insurance against Diallo/Doorson lasting for 30+ games and Freeman not being 100% available all season long.....that's what the Canadian visit and this potential visit mean in my eyes....not a long term commitment that impacts recruiting at all and keeps the roster somewhat flexible beyond this year.

From what I could find ( if right) he red-shirted the 2012-13 season and just sat ( injured?) the 2013-14 season. That leaves 2014 -15 and 2015-16 seasons not playing and if he has 2 years eligibility left must have been off the roster those two years .

If he is completely healthy, Pikiell and Co. need to reel him in. He's got talent. Give him a few weeks for the rust to wear off and he'll be a valuable reserve when the B1G schedule commences.

He never played a game for Baylor as he had 4 operations regarding a hip or hips over the last few years. Coming out of high school he was rated as the #145 player in the country. If he is healthy maybe he can help. He did average over 24 ppg in his senior year of high school and over 10 rpg. He scored over 1,200 points in only 2 years on the varsity team.

A 6-10 guy that can hit the 3 pointer as well. It can't hurt given the fragile nature of our bigs. Can't worry about scholarships, they always work themselves out with departures every year

He may be healthy now, but the big question to me is whether he can make it through the wear and tear of a full season.

If he doesn't what do we lose? He can retire again and take a grad assistant position for a season and finish off his masters before moving on.

There's upside here with minimal risk.

I agree that the risk is not great. Just commenting on the fact that he might be healthy right now, but not be able to get through the season.

If he missed two years because of injury then he can get a medical redshirt for one of those years. This is in addition to his first redshirt year.

So our fan base wants to bring in another injured big to add to already a lot of current injured bigs?

Here's the most interesting scenario for bringing in a Junior with 2 years left.

It would bring the number of Juniors on the roster to 5...Johnson, Williams, Sa, Freeman and Rykhoek. Why is that important ? That means that Rutgers may be one of the few teams in the country that will have the necessary spots to not only offer, but, also bring in the entire FAB 5 from the Sports U as a group without having to scramble to dump players to open up spots.

I understand that teams always seem to open up the necessary spots, but, Rutgers could do it very cleanly.

Brandin Knight is the lead Sports U recruiter and he would have some advantages...open spots for all 5, a great relationship with the Sports U coach, 2+ years to recruit them and hopefully, a brand new, state of the art Practice Facility opening up just as these guys are getting on campus.

Pikiell may just be thinking about this scenario.

UPDATE......looks like Seton Hall will have at least 5, maybe 6 spots available when the Fab 5 decide. Knight and Pikiell vs. Holloway and Williard, Big East vs. Big 10

Who is on Sports U that would make that unit a "fab 5"?

He was a redshirt his true freshman season. The next season he was granted a medical redshirt.

Its been silent for both visits, which is strange since this has to happen quickly, its already August they need to be on campus

Andrew Gaze didn't get to Seton Hall until October, back in the day. Lots of time.

Great find and post. That's him on the court playing with the team..Pikiell trying to determine ON COURT Chemistry?

Love seeing a 6 11" big man stepping out to take a 3.
I hope he made that shot since he is at the three-point arc and the closest defender is a step below the free throw line.

Memphis with Tubby Smith is interesting, they are hungry and motivated to get back in NCAA contention.....if Tubby is bringing him in for a look, it must be a decent enough flier to take as a rental/grad transfer.
