Greg Jones can no longer play

Man, that sucks. Best of luck to the kid. Hopefully he stays involved with the team in coaching role.

No longer play? Jeez wth happened. I know he hurt his neck, but he was fine that same day. I don't get it.

oh well, gotta look at the glass half full. Hes still healthy enough to live a normal life.

Maybe he could have gone through the free agent ride but that's usually a crapshoot. Perhaps its a blessing in disguise as he can start his professional career earlier rather than jumping around nfl camps.

At least he can walk away. Brutal game, getting more so seemingly every time I watch. Wish him the best.

I played baseball and basketball and the great Jay Dakelman at Highland Park used to chase me to play football for him.. No no no no no no no . One of my few wise decisions.

And to think Najee clayton left the team because he got passed by Jones on depth chart

He must of really damaged his neck, to the point that another hit could put him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life or kill him.

So he is lucky that he is able to walk and hopefully live a long normal life for the most part.

Crazy. When I saw the play happen, like the announcers, I didn't even think it was a big shot. Tough break for the kid.

Wow , that kid went through a lot just to get here . Then he makes the team and is a starter . A rea shame and best of luck to him .
Jones and legrand are both from the same neck of the woods and both had neck injuries. Very sad .

no chance of that. He's walking around without any support or brace. has zero neurological issues either. probably has a past history of head issues.

Just guessing, but I would bet they found a pre-existing condition that makes him vulnerable.

The hit did not look too hard and and he was fine afterwards yet he can not play again.

Wow- that is a sad ending to a great story. When I first saw him go down, I thought he would get right back up.
Thought he was the one bright spot at LB this year too

Bummer. Kid has worked and fought hard to get here. Seemed like a bright young man in the interviews I've seen, and the work ethic and dedication he showed in making his way to a starting linebacker role in the Big Ten will serve him well in life. Good luck Mr. Jones.

We really do not know what came first, did Clayton quit because he got passed, or was he passed by him not doing the things the staff wants.

I hope RU blocks any attempt by Clayton to go JUCO,or IMG type move and then to Michigan..

Best of luck to a fine young man. Although the football chapter of his life is over, he is still getting a free year of education here. Hopefully he is putting it towards a grad degree which will give him a leg up in his future career.

Thank you for your hard work and gritty play.

Clayton is not that level of recruit. I don't even know if this year counts as a redshirt for him. My guess would be he goes 1-AA.

Obviously it's both.
For those of us that have been following college football for any length of time it's quite obvious that when a kid quits the team an hour after he gets passed on the depth chart....it's because he got passed on the depth chart.
Duh.

Doesn't really matter IMHO

Rest assure Clayton was bi passed by Greg Jones I think it's quite obvious...he could have taken a " leave " I'm sure... he was childlessly pissed off... Clayton would have been 1B then 1 A now with plenty of playing time...he's been researching other schools so you know it was B.S. excuse.

I'm glad Greg is alright. He always wanted to play for RU and went through everything to get here. I guess he just has to treasure the 4 or 5 games he did get to play and be thankful he is still healthy. When he got injured I said to my brother-in-law that it is ironic that he also graduated from Colonia H.S. I am just happy that he can still lead his life and move forward.

Anyway, what a shame. Kid was one of the few brights spots - IMHO - so far this season. He worked his ass off to get that spot!

Wishing Greg Jones a successful life no matter what he decides to do now that his football career is over.

I don't care if someone left the program because Jones was better than him, I only care that whoever is Jones' replacement does a good job and hope all RU players don't receive a career ending injury like Greg did.
