Ouryoungteam grew up in this young season with a gritty win on the backs of our 2 returning sophomore players, Williams and foreman, and our 2 newcomers who are 2 of the most athletic, smart , high IQ players , that have graced the Banks. Freeman first was a beast with his scoring, offensive rebounding, defense and a crucial late steal and awesome 4blocks that filled the stat sheet. Then Corey , who is the best pass first point guard we have had in a long time, with 14 points, 6 assists , a huge steal and break for a layup and most importantly 6-6 at the line and 4-4 in the last minute.
Now most of you guys will say easy man this was Central Arkansas, but that was one great coached team with some athletes and shooters. They ran a great offense, getting numerous cuts for lay ups and never stopped moving on offense, and hit a lot of shots . Eddie had to switch to zone because of how they ran their offense. I know they lost to UMass 89-72 but UMass hit 16 threes, something we will never do.
If the 4 guys I mention in this thread can give us this effort we have a chance at 500 this year.
Last year, we lose this game and probably by 10-15. We are growing and getting better and for this long time season ticket holder the most encouraged I have been in years!!

I'm happy we got the win, but CA's offensive success was largely due to our bad defense. Eddie really needs to get that cleaned up fast. We could not stop dribble penetration at all.

It was not dribble penetration , it was hard cuts at the foul line going back door. A lot of Princeton offensive concepts that also tires you out on defense. Central Arkansas played a real good smart game but the good news is we stepped up late and got the W.

..C.E is one of those programs that takes in a lot of talented D1 transfers and mid level guys who get boxed out with the big boys. Scottie Pippin was obviously an aberration but he is the type of guy they sometimes strike gold with .

I was about to post pretty much the same response. They executed their offense very well, with a great deal of precision.

goru7, glad you started this thread.

Parity in college basketball has been building for years. There are so many good to great basketball players out there, from an increasingly global pool of talent, and not all of them land at Duke or North Carolina, or even at Rutgers for that matter.

Davids beat Goliaths every day in this sport. We should no longer be influenced solely by the name of a school when determining what amounts to a good win.

I often see scores that are hard to compare. Looking at the UMass-Central Arkansas games it appears as if U Mass was on fire from 3 and Central Arkansas didn't shoot well at all. In the game vs. Howard. U Mass only won by 6 and were losing by 14 with about 10 minutes left. We beat Howard by 12 so what does all of this mean? Hopefully we can play two good games in Las Vegas.

I agree, comparing scores against common opponents does not make much sense. Every game is different, A team can make or miss the same open shots from game to game. Sometimes a team can go 5-18 on open 3 point shots.....the next game they could go 11-18 on those same shots.

For the record...central arkansas was 2-27 last year...quite possibly the worst school in Division 1...they got 4 new players to help this year

Rutgers has more TO's than assists after playing 4 below average opponents.

I want to be optimistic but that concerns me .

Gee, thanks "Irish." Way to find the negative.
Feel good threads must be eliminated , they are against the rules placed on all of the SN sports boards by some of the posters .
To them , negativity rules and if you want to post positive thoughts: be positively negative doing so.
That's why:

I'm a supporter but if you don't see that as an issue that's your problem .

We have assisted on 47.4% of our FGM. NCAA average is 52.4%. TOs have been an issue. We racked up quite a few with offensive charges in 1 of the games.

the assist to TO ratio of this team is one of the least of my concerns right now.
