Shaq Carter had his best game of his career. Myles wasnt at his best and Shaq gave us great minutes and was effective against Watkins

Paul Mulcahy was in complete control playing 29 minutes without a turnover

Montez Mathis came in for Young after Jones caught fire and took our lead away and Mathis stopped him cold and we went on a run to seal it

Caleb with big OREB on crucial 2 FT miss by Montez

Tez's little offensive burst mid-2nd half was one of the keys to the game.

But, yeah, Pike has the guys buying in to the "team" concept - nobody really seems to care if they're "getting theirs" on offense. Everybody plays defense, everybody rebounds, everybody keeps the ball moving.

If we continue to play this way, it will be a CRIME if Pike doesn't win B1G coach of the year.

Great points!

Great points. In the 2nd half my buddy was complaining that Myles wasn't in and I said it was ok, because Shaq was playing as well or better. Really nice game for him. And the improvement in Young the last 4-5 games is off the charts, while Mulcahy is well beyond anything I expected out of him this year.

Mulcahy needs to start and Caleb needs to come off the bench. I like Caleb in lower pressure situation and i like him looking to score
I was hoping Pike would have started Mulcahy in second half but team came out on fire in second half. Big turning point of the game was opening 4 minutes of second half when we stopped them and we took the lead

Our guards being bigger and stronger than theirs was a big deal.

Oops should have read this before starting a Shaq thread.
Or not! More Shaq threads the better!

Very true. This is truly becoming a team where every night everyone contributes and someone different steps up to lead the offense. In Nebraska it was Caleb and Myles. Tonight it was Jacob and Ron. Great to see and fun to watch!

Caleb often plays at crunch time and for the most part makes winning plays, he can handle the pressure. Shots didn't fall tonight but he contributed in other ways
When the ball inevitably bounces off the rim and the only guy you have in the area is a guard... it's nice to have a 6'6" guard with strength.

I think his offseason project is to get better at finishing drives at full speed, which should give him some more space to shoot

Love how Pike handed the offense to Mulcahy after it was clear McConnell was struggling. Had a feeling Mulcahy would end up running the team at some point, 0 turnovers out of a freshman in 30 mins in that game is very impressive
PSU was actually showing Paul some respect by backing off him a bit. He has shown that he’ll burn you with an assist if try to double him, with his great court awareness.

Johnson battle Watkins all night and controlled him in the second half. Carter was effective also. Mulcahy will be a star, he just a player.

In time his decisions will be more purposeful but for now he's feeling out the game and providing value in protecting the ball. Sort of like a game manager QB at the moment

Mathis pulling the trigger and draining the 3, was huge.

we hate them when they miss, love them when they go down. Not sure if I recall Mathis making a bigger 3 in a pressure situation. It was a good 3 not forced, he had a great few minute stretch there with his peskiness under the basket to score 4 more.

alot of people kept saying last year that Caleb was our best guard, better than Geo, etc. I disagree and Caleb may not be destined to carry all kinds of responsibilities. He can have nights like he did vs Nebby but not sure if its fair to ask him to do that night in and out. However even in a night like tonight where he was lost early and never found his shot, he had several important assists not to mention 8 boards. You dont always have to be the scorer. Tonight was a perfect example of the players knowing roles and executing them...team ball, team win

He hit a big one in the win over Minnesota last year.

Caleb needs to start shooting when teams go under screens against him.

Tez is one of the most important pieces on this team. A lot of fans just look at ppg and pts totals at the end of game.

He plays insane defense, has become a capable 3 shooter in limited shots(very timely shots I might add), drives very well and hustles his ass of off. Love his game.

Like seeing Paul and Caleb in the game together. They are our to best passers and the ball seems to move much better with them together. Also takes pressure off Caleb having to run the show. Either can, and when Jacob is in with them we have a balance of speed and control.
