Harper at RAC Today Thurs

I doubt the game is played on Wednesday because of the snow storm.

If the game is cancelled I would hope it would be the next day and still at the RAC. It would be great if many RU fans could attend and see Ron play in person. I have seen him play several times and I might want to see him play again.

Gonna try to make this game if I can.

Plus, just another reason to board the spaceship when RU is not in their season.

Space X launching from Piscataway!

Wasn't Mulcahy also scheduled to play at the RAC on Wednesday against Roselle Catholic?A high profile double header.

Anyone going to the first game tonight with Harper playing?

Don Bosco vs St Peters Prep @ 6pm

Gil St.Bernards vs Roselle Catholic @ 8pm

Am I nuts for not being high on him? I don't see a B1G level athlete or defender so his shot better translate. I have no confidence in bad body guys.

I was there too. He carried his time tonight as Earlington I think only had 10 points and fouled out early. He did make 3 tough threes but he missed several free throws. Otherwise he was outstanding. He even brought the ball up the court very often.

Paul Mulcahy played outstanding in game #2 vs Roselle Catholic. RC with probably 6 D-1 players wore down Gill St. Bernard in the second half to win 57-40. I think it was only 1 point at the half. RC has Reid at 6'11", Frink at 6'8: and Whitney at 6'7". They also have Horton and Battle at guard and Pierre (spelling) off the bench. They are loaded. Mulcahy at 6'5" was the only guy probably over 6' on Gill St. Bernard. Whitney is very athletic. Naz Reid didn't have a good game. I think he was playing better and was in better shape last year.

Yes Gil was much smaller and could not defend those big bodies. Two guys fouled out and Mulcahy had 4. Mulcahy had nice game but could use some more weight on him.

To quote Billy Beane, we're not selling jeans here. After all, Souf Mensah has arguably the best body on the team and meanwhile this guy from Wisconsin who looks like a JV high school player was one of the best freshman in the conference:

Also, obviously, Harper is the son of this guy:

So genetics are certainly on his side.

Will he be a big impact guy as a freshman? Probably not. But I think he'll be a decent contributor.

I'm sure it's ONLY you. So, let me get this straight, a HS kid needs to get in better shape when they reach college.

Point out the bad body in this short video ? No need to answer. Maybe, it is the extremely long arms that you hate so much? lol

WOW...he moves just like his Dad when going towards the basket and uses the left and right equally well.

RC & The Patrick School are both huge with many guys at least over 6'7". Every year these two team graduate several players and just bring in new guys to replace them the next year. They are both basketball factories and Linden has to play both at least twice a year. The NJSIAA really ought to investigate how these schools year in and year out keep getting all of these outstanding players and many of them are not even from the near by area. The Patrick School this year has a 7'1" guy from the Sudan or Senegal who played at Roselle Catholic last year. The Patrick School also brought in a 6'11" guy as a senior this year from eastern Europe. It just is not fair to the public schools.

There is nothing WOW about those highlights lol. Guarantee if Seton Hall got him people would be saying oh he's a tweener we need B1G level athletes to get out of the basement.

No you’re not nuts. I’m not high on him either. I just don’t see a Big 10 athlete there. Hope I’m wrong of course.

Shep Garner from Penn St. is not a super athlete but he is a great shooter. Perhaps Ron can be our version of what Shep brought to PSU.

@ruteelrice What the hell is your problem, Can you read ? I said, WOW, " He moves just like his Dad". And....he does use his left and right hand equally in those drives to the basket.

Spot up Shooters don't need to be great athletes and that's the role he will probably fit.

Harper's long arms make up for his average athleticism. He also plays taller than his real height. He's probably more like 6'4 but plays like 6'6/6'7. He's never going to jump out of the gym, but get him in the weight room and he can be a bully.

Harper is a gamble by the staff. I think it is a worthwhile gamble, but risky nonetheless. I would love to see him redshirt as I believe that would do him a world of good. Right now he is not in appropriate physical condition to compete at the BigTen level. If it is true that he is still growing, a year of added height and strong conditioning could transform him into a very solid player. In fairness, that could also happen without a redshirt, but that redshirt year imo would potentially be a tremendous benefit. He has some nice overall skills, but he needs time and hard work to develop those skills. I think the staff was correct to bring him on board, but only time will tell whether he was worth the risk.

Bring on the legacy recruits. Ron Harper won 5 NBA titles. His knowledge is passed down to Jr. this team will be in good hands. It also seems RHJ is a leader on his DBP team. Can't have enough leaders and high IQ players on the team. That's how you build a solid team.

Harper looks like a solid depth guy. Obviously we need to recruit more star or at least starter types to go with that.

We've recruited plenty of guys who look good getting off the bus but weren't so hot once they got on the court. I'd take a guy who can be the opposite of that.

People ask for shooters from 3....Harper is a capable shooter from 3....as much as Issa Thiam probably warranted a red shirt, Harper is going to be in much better shape after arriving...i think its easier to become cutter and leaner in the weight room vs asking someone to add 15 pounds of muscle.

Myles Johnson probably could have helped RU for 200-300 minutes a year over 30 or so games but made sense to stick with the upperclassmen in Shaq and Candido....in this case if you have Kiss and Thiam able to split up 40 minutes at the SF, Harper probably looks like a high 3* player if you redshirt him and buy him an off season of work.

Ideally, he's starting his eligibility clock during Eugene, Carter and Thiams senior seasons, so he steps right into the rotation with 1-2 years of sweat equity and confidence on exactly whats expected.

If this 4 month run from mid to late June through October is great, then you play him. Theres no owners manual that says Harper's shooting can't help...on the other hand, chasing down defensively and running around screens to chase Vince Edwards, Tyler Cook, Huerter, etc off the 3 point line is where you have to be in tremendous condition and footspeed to contribute on both ends of the court.....it. cant be all about offense....

For a team desperate for some offense, Harper has a diverse skill set that includes being able to hit a three. I can't see him not helping next year.

Over the years, RU has recruited far too many athletes, who happen to play basketball. Harper is a basketball player, something we've had too few of on the banks in recent memory. I'll take a player with sound fundamentals and a high hoops IQ rather than a guy who can simply run like a deer and jump through the roof.

I’m rooting for the kid. But I’m tormented by the sight of him getting repeatedly torched off the dribble by St Peters Prep guards last night. He absolutely could not stop them from penetrating into the lane at will.

I think our staff does a good job of getting our defense to be better than the sum of its parts. I wouldn't consider anybody on this year's roster an elite defender, but we had a top-30 defense.

Between the coaching, his length, a reduction in minutes and the fact that he won't be the focal point on offense like he is at DBP, I expect him to be, at worst, a passable defender.

I really do not think he will red shirt next season. Last night he was playing guard mostly as well as guarding fast guards. I think he will play more small forward than guard for RU but that is only my opinion. He looked pretty good to me.He made three 3's , rebounded passed and broght the ball up very often. He did score 25 points and had a few really nice drive and finishes as well.
