Harper at RAC Today Thurs

I agree with the idea it's a 6/7 year rebuild. I think a huge determining factor for success will be how much improvement do Pike's recruits show year to year. I think there is some evidence that everyone has improved so far and that they have all bought in. As long as they continue to do so and we hit it big in 2019 recruiting, I don't see why gloom and doom outlooks are necessary even if Corey leaves.

Why would a coach do a complete rebuild if he didn’t have to?
Perhaps their issue is the coach.

We are entering Year 3 and are “doomed” if Corey doesn’t come back. We have no PG on the roster.

Pure speculation, but if Shoes wasn’t retained we’d have a PG on the roster and wouldn’t be dependent on Sanders.

How many people would be OK when Pikiell was hired that entering Year 3 we would be dependent on Sanders staying to not have a terrible year 3 AND we’d have 3 and 3 B1G wins in his 2 years.
Start out with a piece, something. Say Sanders was a worse player than he turned out to be. He still brought energy and dunks that made the rac a little more lively. You are a realist, and life has turned me into one as well, but if this program had me thinking your thoughts, I’d probably have to step away from it. It’s just basketball. At Rutgers we aren’t expecting perfection, just competitive games. Your post are true, but I believe the future is bright. Pikiell does have to secure a lead ball handler, and it will matter. I think he gets someone servicable. A lot of post here in the past week have been based on speculation with no facts. and As a fan base, we react to it.

Based on the videos, I see only upside with Harper. He moves well for his body type and more importantly he can score, which is what we need. No way he redshirts.

Defense is all foot movement and effort, which can be learned. With Pike if you don't defend you don't play, so Ron will have plenty of motivation to get in top shape and improve his lateral movement on D.

He has 8 months before his first game here. I say he'll be ready.

What if Harper did real well in years 2,3,4?[/QUOTE

Well, by rs’ing Harper or anyone else, you turn four years in college into five and you are assuming that those four of five playing years removes the weakest and adds the strongest.

Why the heck are you posting about Harper in a thread about Harper? You are detracting from the very important dialogue on why Rutgers is doomed under Pikiell.

Complete rebuild would have been a really bad move

We will never know. Sanders and Freeman are very gifted and talented players, but only won 3 games in each of the 2 years. Our offense is rated 272nd this year and 231st last year. I'd imagine in a complete rebuild at worse we'd be the same.

Coming soon...

No, at worst you would have something like Pitt. And Pikiell has won 3 out of 5 B1G tournament games. C’mon dude!

No. I am giving Pikiell credit. He turned 236th defensive team in to 70th in Year 1. Similar players, but different coaching staff. I haven't seen Pitt play, but I am going to guess he'd get them playing better defense.

I can't imagine how turning over the entire roster would have been beneficial to our program. I'm pretty sure Sanders and Freemans replacements would have been worse than them and we would have had a worse record.

You are talking crazy.

Do you enjoy taking a contrary opinion and debating the entire board?

Replacements wouldn't have been as talented, that is for sure. Would we have won more? Maybe. Would they have assimilated with the team? Probably.
How many players have been publicly punished on our team?
Would Issa be more assertive without Freeman and Sanders? I really think so
How about Duocoure? Freeman constantly telling him what he is doing wrong
What about ball movement?
Our offensive inefficiencies were not despite Freeman and Sanders it was because of them.

Answer me this.....why is our offensive inefficiency worse than almost all P5 schools and 75% of mid majors?
There has to be a reason. So is there no chance it is because Freeman doesn't share the ball and Sanders isn't a threat unless the ball is in his hands...and with the exception of the last few games can't shoot?

We won 3 B1G games. 1 of them was with Freeman a DNP-coach's decision.

We won 3 games last year and 3 games this year. Most are saying we are doomed in Year 3 if Sanders (Jordan recruit) leaves. almost everyone is super confident in the coaching staff. Am I really that crazy to have concerns? Seriously.

Also how many times have I been called crazy just to have what I say be the consensus thought in 6-12 months. I am a passionate fan who is a realist.

GRFIG - I meant crazy in the sense if any more players left when Pike took over, we might not have had enough players to field a team.

And if you don’t like the recruiting Pike has done to this point, how can you argue it would have been better to start from scratch?

Most likely, anyone else he brought in would not have been very good.

Then you think Montez comes in after we go 6-24 or whatever in year 1?

And if we had same record this year, who is coming in the 2019 class?

Most likely, anyone else he brought in would not have been very good. MAYBE YEAR 1, but hopefully not YEAR 2

Then you think Montez comes in after we go 6-24 or whatever in year 1? I don't accept we would be 6-24. I am not convinced Freeman and Sanders are that much of a net positive
