Harper

Why is he still in the game down 17 with a minute to go, especially when he is giving almost no effort? Is that what Pike calls being fair to the rest? Clear the bench, including walk ons.
Pike is scrambling to get out of this season without looking any more foolish than he already does. Announcers are already mentioning lack of effort, not taking warm-ups seriously, and importance of winning for Ace and Harper. I’m sure he wishes the season was over and maybe something magical might still click with this team in the meantime. Since we all know that won’t happen, his best scenario is to win a couple more games without calling any negative publicity to the program. Not playing two lottery picks when the season is over just makes him look even worse. In a few months, when the dust has settled, he can quickly grab some leftover mid major players, throw some bullshit out there that Carino will eat up, and he’s bought himself another year.

Is it 3 or 4 times in the last couple games we’ve seen Ace or Dylan get their pockets picked clean at the top of the key against a defender who wont sniff the NBA? Forget the lack of defense, the focus on offense simply is no longer there.

Lathan and Grant each had it done a few times too when they get to the foul line extended. They all just thing they can spin away from their own defender and have no awareness of the help.

Lol...I suspect this is precisely what will happen too!

Bittle gets switched on him and he takes a step back 3. He definitely isn't right......looks like hit the wall hard.
Hit the wall at 22 games? IDK, this is the time most real good freshman are starting to pick it up, have adjusted to the speed and length of defenders, ect. He played 10 more HS games last year, granted not the same thing. I'd say tired could be a factor, but it's built in with a lack of desire/interest, maybe injury as well. I'm sure it's more than one thing.

I saw the freshman wall in my household. This is exactly what it looked like. Right around the same time of the year...different sport. The wall should get broken through

agreed it's more than one thing...

but for sure he is not himself. probably road him too hard early in the season but obviously we needed to. i think his body must be a mess. you go back and watch his early season highlights and no one could stay in front of him. even with help coming over he was just getting to the rim at will. now he has trouble getting around his main defender, forget about when help comes.

i think the physicality of the B1G is probably wearing him down. teams are hitting him...hard...anytime he's trying to fight through a screen. anytime he does take the ball downhill. try shooting a jump shot after you've just taken a few shoulders to the chest and a knee to the thigh...lol harder than one would think.

hoping we see the real dylan again before the season is over.

He looks incredibly winded. In one of the timeouts he was sucking for air big time. Big Ten is no joke, will wear on you. Especially given all the illness/injuries he has endured— it is showing.

It is almost impossible to see how Rutgers sports can implode a season with such regularity.
Football had, by far, the easiest schedule they may ever have in this league and they struggled to get to a bowl which they ended up losing Rutgers style.
Now we have the mens basketball team get not one but two of the top 5 freshman in the country and screw that up!
I think the team has pretty much thrown in the towel and I fully expect a mass exodus, via the portal, as soon as this knightmare ends.

Im with you. They both look gassed out there. Ace being a few days removed from the flu isn’t helping. Pikes substitutions should make it clear - I don’t think he’s playing Hayes out of choice. Seems like they’re betting on doing just enough to get into the BTT and hoping to catch fire in March.

Rutgers football had a lot of injuries. If Toure played I think we win 9 games. And Kyle may have had broken rib.
If Schiano doesn't call the ill-advised timeout against Illinois, they definitely win that game. If Ben Black catches a perfectly thrown bomb against Nebraska, maybe they win that game too.

Everyone is different, but on the whole I don’t believe 18 year olds hit a physical wall.
my 14 year old did. went from club to being a freshman in games that really mattered in front of crowds. Late January he was sleeping 14 hours and for a few weeks (only) just seemed to be dazed and decision making was so slow.

Don't forget what the flu took out of him he lost 13 pounds you don't gain that back while playing and it doesn't matter if your 18 the flu was a very severe strain this year but I don't think he has actually been right since Vegas!!!
