Haskins to MD

No shame in being runner up!! We will get the next one!!!

I know you are only trying to be positive, but there is only so many times you can say this. We need some program changing Qb's in the worst way, we never seem to get them here. No disrespect to our QB's at all, they may turn out just as good as Haskins or Guarantano, but we need to recruit and start closing on some big time players if we want to compete in the BIG. There is no way around this.

Though a transfer and those types always are question marks because they left another school, wasn't Retting considered an elite QB before he committed to LSU and the type of QB you said RU needs.
Understand as a senior in HS Hayden was rated the 5th best pro style n the class of 2013.
Maybe it's too early to give up on him, but agree RU must stop swinging and missing when going after top HS talent.

I know you are only trying to be positive, but there is only so many times you can say this. We need some program changing donors in the worst way, we never seem to get them here. No disrespect to our donors at all, but we need to recruit and start closing on some big time donors if we want to compete in the BIG. There is no way around this.

FIFY. You put too many carts before the horse. Donors bring $$ for big time coaches who can recruit against the Big Boys and bring big time QBs. Even St. Greg never landed a big time QB. Until then, this crying about landing top recruits when they have offers from SEC teams and elite B1G teams is nauseating.

We keep thinking small with the $$$ and salaries, we will stay small to middling. Just maybe, we can pull a Michigan State or Wisconsin and do it with hand picked under the radar players, but that's a tougher row to hoe. I love Kyle Flood and want him to succeed. But we have no tradition of winning or championships, our facilities pale in comparison to Tennessee and Maryland and many other schools, we have no proven assistant coaches on offense or defense and no known recruiting dynamos on staff. But you guys can keep can keep blaming and pummeling Flood.

Who knows, may be Laviano, Rettig, Recigno or Dare may turn out to be the big time QB we have been waiting for.

And I'm known as a Polyanna wearing Scarlet glasses with my head in the sand. What will Twitter guy have to say to this post. #TRUTH^^^^

Rutgers should focus on 2 and 3 stars who really want to be here instead of going through this every few months with 4 star players. It is not good for the program to be viewed as a loser when games are not even being played. Unless we can develop 2 and 3 stars and win, we should not be in the BIG.

Wouldn't a more logical solution be to hire a coach that can recruit?

LOL. I'm sure he's gonna recruit all these guys to follow him to MD and then leave if they have a bad year. You PSU fans are absolute jokes at this point.
Yeah, recruits never change their minds and do what they think is best for them.

And "commitment" means absolutely nothing. Can be changed anytime as we have seen hundreds of times.

But people here still fawn over every "4 star" player and their daily whims.

Teel Nova Savage all had BCS offers, we are going backwards despite being the B1G to a QB with offers from UConn and Temple and that will be spun here as logical.

I don't know how you manage to pull yourself out of bed in the morning, what with all of the wrongs that have been done to you by that Flood guy.

It won't ruin my day but must not Flood bear any responsibility for anything bad happening to the program?

What constitutes bearing any responsibility, in this case? And are we defining a recruit choosing another school over Rutgers something "bad happening to the program?" I'd agree there's nothing positive about it, but "the program" is in exactly the same shape it was tonight as it was this morning. How did something bad happen to it?

pretty much predictable on how this will be spun....and the spins going to be real heavy with the missed opportunities for 2016 which of course was spun as THE year

This is no surprise and it shouldn't be a surprise when the 2016 class is as mediocre as KFs prior classes. And by the way to say that having the QBs we have is a good substitute for our future. I hope you're right. Rettig certainly has the pedigree and I hope he pans out. Laviano looked good this Spring and I hope he can contribute as well. But between our last two scholarship QBs out of HS - there is a total of a single P5 offer between them and it was a BC offer for Laviano when BC was ranked about 100 and having weak recruiting classes. This does not bod well. And it's not as if KF recruits other positions to beat the world (though Martin and Hicks certainly looked good).

Name a defensive end that Schiano recruited who was better than Turay. Besides Rice name one Schiano RB nearly as good as Hicks and Martin. Schiano had a few outstanding linemen but he usually had alot of misses at that position whereas Flood seems to be more consistent in putting together better 5 man units. The only position that Schiano seemed to recruit better than Flood has was DB and that is still undecided given Flood's limited time as head coach.

Jamal Westerman. George Johnson. Both NFL players

Why are some fans making this such a big thing?

I'm a guy that was never sold on Flood because of his poor performance as co-OC in charge of the running game.

But the players love him and this is just one recruit. So we miss out on a handful of top recruits.. big deal. Make it work with the players we have. We recruit on a par with some teams that win pretty well.

Sure, its easier with star players.. but since when is that something Rutgers fans should count on? Can we really afford the kind of coach and staff that might be able to make that happen? Can the AD and President of Rutgers sell such a candidate on Rutgers and New Jersey?

Win with what we have and it all gets easier. It will be easier for Flood if he wins. Otherwise, we will need coaches and staff that can make that happen. I think a young offensive or defensive genius with charisma to put put together a great staff... eh... ITS JUST ONE RECRUIT!

I just want to see the "Flood is God" crowd admit that his recruiting is ridiculously poor considering we are in the B1G and we were bringing in higher ranked players while headed for the Island of Misfit Toys.

That's not really true, because we are lacking in QB depth. Even if we assume Laviano and Rettig are fantastic, then what happens after them? Another "learn on the job" cauldron that we have been throwing QBs into repeatedly since Teel graduated.

The Flood crowd insisted 2016 was the dream team and that group will not have an elite QB. How does that portend going forward?

I would actually put money on it that Haskins ends up flipping before national signing day. The big reason he stated for choosing maryland was his relationship with the coaching staff. It's quite likely that Edsall may get canned next year if Maryland has the year I believe they will. Honestly the only games md should win is richmond, bowling green and maybe USF. I predict 2 maybe 3 wins for maryland next year, it's going to be rough... I predict at least 6 games (WVU, Michigan, OSU, PSU, Wis, Mich St) will be blowouts ei MD loses by 30+. Calls will be made for Edsall's job and uncertainty will arise about his future and with Negative recruiting being so prevelant in this area hrhum... James Franklin, this kid will have people in his ear every day negative recruiting md.

It's a loooooong way to signing day, now do I think Haskins ends up choosing Rutgers? No I don't, I've accepted the fact that we are never going to land the big time recruit so why even get my hopes up just to be disappointed year after year, I think Haskins ultimately ends up at Florida

Wow! Great Idea! Fire a coach who led us to 8 wins during our first B1G season because he didn't convince Haskins to come to RU.

That was in response to another post but way to contribute to the board by taking things completely out of context to beat the same dead horse.

The sky is not falling, we have a pretty good team and some nice recruits. Having said that, if you can't acknowlede the disappointment of not getting either JG or Haskins, you're being delusional. Haskins, in particular, would lkely start here from Day one - he's that good.

The song remains the same..............................Flood can't close
The kid must have wanted to stay home really bad, passing up many top
rated football programs. So not chosing Rutgers means Flood sucks?
Never heard such nonsense:(. So all the top football programs in the nation
have coaches who suck? Makes no sense at all.

It's what could happened to it ( the program) that's what frustrating.
The Recruiting trend has been going down since the 2012 class. Things are "not" in the shape that they were.

JG, just one recruit. Walker, just one recruit. Haskins just one recruit. Alexander, just one recruit.

Sneed just one recruit, Pollack just one recruit, Jabbie just one recruit, Russo just one possible recruit. What do we have in common? Not one player between our lists has taken a snap in a college football game and unless you time travel, we both have no idea how this turns out. If recruiting is as bad as you and others state it is, then ultimately the proof is in the pudding and results on the field will determine that. Or not. Until such time comes, I like our kids for the Rutgers system. You can cry and be miserable all day long about who has the most stars at the end of a high school career.

Time will tell. I just don't remember daily articles on Sneed, Pollack, Jabbie. So I guess there isn't a lot in common. They may end up being superstars and I hope so but if you honestly don't think that whiffing on these guys is a hit to the program I don't know what to tell you.

Would I have preferred Haskins or JG over Russo? I admit yes, by a little, more so Haskins than JG. I liked the short video on Russo and especially his last year's stats albeit significantly fewer attempts than Haskins. He looks like he's got a good arm. It's hard to tell because he played on a run first offense that did win a Championship in a tough league according to those in the know. He was also a first year varsity player. I think we're going to be ok.

In the next few years Laviano and Rettig will battle it out and when their time comes to pass, I could easily see a great duel between Dare and Russo as they develop. Also, I'm sure they'll be the hot QB of 2017 that we'll be in the mix for next year and discussing. I like where we're going and believe we'll be competitive in the toughest division in college football. I personally have no anxiety over a 5.5 rating vs. a 5.8 or 5.9 rating based on skills judged by different services seen at the HS level.

Bring in a QB in each class, as you're supposed to do, give them good coaching and playing time, and let there be survival of the fittest. I can tell you a lot of programs that succeeded with QB's who became great, altho lightly recruited and 3* or less.

Thanks. Hey, you do you guys have Shop Rite in Cincinnati?

Just curious.

Congrats to Haskins and Maryland. I will always understand why a home town kid picks this home town school.

This is going to hurt us though. That kid is a stud. Garantano, meh. This kid is the real loss. Sucks going to have to play against him every year, but luckily his supporting cast won't be that great.
