Haskins to MD

RU was never in it. How some of you keep getting sucked into this again and again and again knowing Flood can't recruit is beyond me.

Really thought we were gonna get him.

It's still a long time between today and when he (or Guarantano) will make an on-the-field impact at the school for whom he plays. Between now and then, we've got to sort out some quarterback issues of our own, and I'm faithful in Flood's leadership (if not salesmanship) to date.

Flood's hypothetical "replacement" is going to be dealt the same hand of tepid in-state support as he's been, so I don't see any upside at all in grumbling about his recruiting. He may not be lighting anyone's world on fire, but -- for my money -- the inevitable tsunami of grief and recrimination that is sure to follow this defeat is not in the fans' best interests. Nonetheless, it will follow, as surely as day follows night, and it will come from people just as loyal to the program as the ones who think Flood is the right man for the job. I'm disappointed by Haskins's choice, but I don't think it reflects poorly on Flood's recruiting ability any more than it did on Frank Beamer's, Franklin's or Brian Kelly's.

I really thought we were gonna get Haskins. It's going to be a long, hot summer.

Article doesn't say RU was "never in it". Haskins had cut his schools in the spring-which means anytime after Mar-20th. My hunch is after his visits to Spring FB practices and sizing up the competition he stuck to his word that he wanted to go where he could start. Our QB depth isn't at OSU standards but pretty darn good imo.

By what standards is the QB depth chart here "pretty darn good?" This is a depth chart that would have any highly ranked high school QB licking his chops. There is NO WAY that Haskins passed on RU because of the depth chart.

I guess we'll never know what Haskins would've done if an All-American QB recruit like Rettig and a rocket-armed frosh coming in like Dare were on the MD roster. Terps have nobody to beat at that position.

Haskins said he wants to go to a school he can start, Maryland's QB will be graduating after the 2015 season.
Haskins competition for the starting Terp QB position will be a RS Sr ( in 2016) with little experience
or a RS Jr ( 2016) who only played on special teams as a RS Freshman in 2014, but was considered pretty good coming out of HS
(3 * by Rivals, Scout & 247 > 4 by ESPN)

You are deluding yourself if you think a kid like Haskins did not come to RU because of any QB that is currently on the roster. From an outside perspective, the RU depth chart looks like:

A rsSO who was middling rated and has done nothing at the collegiate level
A transfer who was highly rated in HS but didn't make it at LSU and has done nothing at the collegiate level
An incoming frosh who was middling rated

How is any of this going to scare off one of the top QB recruits in the country?? A kid like Haskins probably thinks he can start at any program in the country he wants to. Honestly, you should be disappointed if Anthony Russo doesn't think he can come in here and contribute immediately and I expect him to say as much.

No one's deluding anyone dice. I would've loved Haskins to come here and compete against Rettig, etc. He just would not be a lock at RU like he will be at MD. Don't know how you can't see that, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Not sure but I think Cockerille is the 3* guy recruited as a dual-threat QB. Terps pro-style QB's that would be around for Haskins were lightly recruited.

Well, if this is the rationale that Haskins used to make his decision, I guess this board can all be happy that he chose MD. I highly doubt it, but I guess it makes some feel better about the situation.

By your rationale he should've gone to OSU believing he could beat out every other QB recruit, lead them to a few NCs and be the 1st pick in the NFL draft. Top players want to get on the field as soon as they can for as long as they can. And try reading a little more closely, I said I would've loved him here, I'm not happy he chose MD over RU, stop being a fool.

Well, he did say immediate playing time was his most important consideration. And we don't have immediate playing time to offer. Beyond that its all speculation.

I wish our fans would stop talking about recruiting until the end of the season or when we actually get the recruit. Hoping for recruits is crazy for Rutgers fans. First, they post all these crazy threads and after we don't get the recruit, we say how they weren't so great. SOUNDS LIKE SYRACUSE FANS
