NCAA approves helmet communications for FBS

College football is adding helmet communication for FBS games, two-minute timeouts at the end of each half and other changes approved this week by the NCAA's Playing Rules Oversight Panel.

Thanks for linking. Should be interesting to see if teams drop the looking over to the sidelines every play. And I'm thinking a 2 minute timeout at the end of the second half isn't necessary. Lol

When you see a staff member looking at a computer during the game, no one will know if he/she is hacking into the opponent QB's helmet and relaying what found to his/her teams D or looking at tom and jerry cartoons 😜

It will take the place of an already established commercial break. There are usually 3-4 breaks per quarter (depending on "level" of game coverage - bigger games have 4 breaks per quarter, smaller games have 3 or 4) done after a change of possession. This will just take the place of one of those.

The one in the 4th Quarter of a blowout is a serious kick in the balls though. At that point everyone just wants to go home.

No. They were used in 6 bowl games. Maryland and Northwestern were two who did.

Old-timers will remember that the reason for the two-minute warning in the NFL was that the stadium clock was unofficial. Of course, the two minute warning became obsolete the instant that the field judge became able to control the stadium clock.

There's probably a view that the rules ought to be identical unless when there 's a good reason (such as protecting player safety) to the contrary.
