Houston is the perfect job for a head coach. It is stacked with players.

Any coach that gets that job will look like a genius because Houston is stacked with talent.

When a coach leaves it's because he had success and likely recruited well and left good players. It's a big reason why he was successful.

Usually (blue bloods usually being the exception) when a coach is fired, it's due in large part to not having players or being able to recruit.

Houston is an example of the former. Schools like us and Purdue an example of the latter.

Maybe Flood should apply for the job. He has recent experience inheriting a team with decent players.

Lane Kiffin has been mentioned with this job. Holgorsen at WVU too (he coached there before). Their current DC Orlando and a couple others.

Jersey like Houston has a recruiting base full of talent. Herman was able to keep the local kids home. Flood not so much.

Maybe Houston will hire Mehringer for Head Coach? I heard he got his offensive genius reputation at Houston. Or just maybe Hermann at U Texas will bring him on as the OC, since Hermann gave him that label.

Either one works for me.

In Edit, best deal would be for Hermann to let his OC go to RU in exchange for his genius to return as OC.

You have to wonder how much Houston benefited from speculation the past couple of years that the Big 12 wouldn't stay at 10 teams. New stadium, I get it. Great coach, fun system, I get it. But a lot of Houston players and fans had to be dreaming of a seat at the table, and that, for now, has been dashed. Not entirely sure how much that might affect the next coach's recruiting.
