How is it possible that EJ is THIS bad?!

Maybe its because the talent level remains at MAC level whil

Honest question. I no longer actively follow the men's basketball team, because the script never seems to change. Oy!
Eddie wasn't on the court playing, the players were - sort of. We started off great, but when we had to substitute to get a couple of players some rest, we put in the "double d's" and everything turned to crap almost immediately. Our senior guard is supposed to give us leadership and smart decisions, but instead gave us turnovers and missed shots. Our senior center started out OK offensively, but he and the redshirt freshman center (the other "d") were abused underneath by Seton Hall's post players. We were without two players, Freeman and Doorson, who could have helped us underneath with stronger and/or bigger bodies. Other than that, we played mostly freshmen and sophomores and they are inconsistent. The most disappointing part of the game to me was how little effort our guards put into trying to get rebounds, especially during the part of the game where we had no post player in. Basically, I wasted a beautiful December day during which I should have been outside doing ANYTHING other than watching that game.

how is it possible? At what point in his career was he ever considered a good coach? I mean he seems like a nice guy and I don't wish him to do poorly, but did anybody ever think he would do well in college? I mean I know if you are a fan you root for him to do well, but objectively you could not have expected it to go well.

I loved Eddie as a player but i've come to the conclusion that he stinks as a coach after following RU hoops since the great season of ''76'' and earlier...this is too much to bear..where not going anywhere...i can ''sense or smell'' it...time we looked in the mirror...EJ nice guy bad College HC...i can't even believe i said it.

Sad. Well, it all starts at the top. Hopefully Hobbs has a better nose for coaching hires than Pernetti did.

I really think you guys have a total right to feel this way...but I see a really really painfully inexperienced team that now have injuries

Having said that ...I need to see a better team in Late February ...and improvement in year 4

Even I Can't be patient forever. Need to shows signs

So we can put to rest the fears that the Sanders kid is a 1 and done ?

Scary thought...are we even the 3rd or 4th best basketball school in NJ?!?!?!

Mediocre, half-ass basketball seems so far away for this program...

[QUOTE="bac2therac, post: 1142810, member: 352"because he is a 500 NBA coach recruiting bottom half of the MAAC talent[/QUOTE]

0.500 ? He wishes he was 0.500 in the NBA

Not going to rehash Pernetti, but he interviewed Jordan for the Head coaching job before hiring RIce and declined to offer him a job. Draw your own conclusions.

And Hobbs passed on hiring Mike Rice when he hired Willard. I like that.

The best analogy for Eddie Jordan is when Isiah Thomas coached FIU. He was a disaster.

Season Team Overall Conference Standing Postseason
FIU Golden Panthers / Panthers
(Sun Belt) (2009–2012)
2009–10 FIU 7–25 4–14 6th (East)
2010–11 FIU 11–19 5–11 6th (East)
2011–12 FIU 8–21 5–11 T5th (East)
FIU: 26–65 14–36

Very similar hire and results. He got fired in year 3. Keeping him another season would have changed nothing.

If there is one sport Hobbes DOES know about...its basketball. Like it or not Seton Hall has had some great years....I cant imagine how hard it is to promote a small, overpriced, private college located in Newark NJ that has almost nothing to offer when it comes to national exposure.

Like coach ASH says,,,its all about culture......and right now the RU basketball culture can only be percieved as a culture of excuses and losing............when it should be the apple of the NY areas eye...

The problem is that the painfully inexperienced and injured team is also lacking talent and coaching.
So why bother fielding a team. It may be better to just shut it down until the B1G checks start coming in. Right now, the stick of this program will linger for another decade.

With all due respect to our SHU visitors, they have been to the NCAA tournament three times in the last twenty years. Not exactly Duke.

Had a Maryland alum tell me last night she had never seen a basketball team as bad as ours. She asked the same question- how can we suck this much?

You don't get this bad just by chance, it takes active mismanagement over a long period...something RU has excelled at. Maybe Hobbs can change that.

kenpom rankings
willard 2016 -2011 52 107 98 122 59 52
gonzo 2010-2007 71 75 105 114
orr 2006-2002 71 114 27 45 86

Nothing to write home about, but never anywhere close to where we are at with Hill and Jordan.

Pernetti did not hire EJ. As a matter of fact, he chose Mike RIce over EJ....EJ is just not into it from a recruiting POV and gameday coach.....what's left??!!! Possible 0-17 in Big Ten....I realize GW is 9-1 but losing 83-49???? REALLY....REALLY!!

We aren't going 0-17 in the B1G...stop it with the crazy talk! The last game is at home and we aren't at the stage financially where we gave up the gate.

That's right. I now recall the AD gap during the EJ hire. Sad state of affairs. You have to TRY to be this bad in basketball.

from kenpom....
Chance of winless record: 3.5%

Going 0-18 is very hard. If Freeman is healthy 3-15 is the base case guess. We have NEB, MIN, and Ill 2x. Add 1 game vs. penn state that is 7 teams that aren't very good right now.

Minnesota lost back to back at home to SD and SD State. SD State is actually good.

illinois had to scratch and claw to beat Illinos Chicago who is ranked #330. we ended up winning going away (took too long) vs. Central Connecticut who is ranked in that ballpark.

looking at Penn state they have struggled against a weak schedule.

How is it possible that we may be home underdogs to Monmouth and there may be more Monmouth fans in attendance than RU fans? If that isn't the bottom, I don't know what is. $$$$

I really don't know what to say at this point. We're bad. Very bad.

And this is with EJ's players, so he has no one to blame but himself for not having talent. There's only one scholarship player left who was brought in under Rice. The lack of talent on the court is in direct relation to EJ's lack of ability in recruiting.

We may be saddled with him another year given the additional outlay on football coaching this season, but at this point I'm hoping Hobbs can convince Barchi to go in another direction.

the SHU debacle a few weeks ago pushed our kenpom rating to #250, the blowout loss to GW has us sitting at #254.

If you want to be mathematical about all this.......

Rock bottom could be losing to FDU and Monmouth in a 4 day span. Probability is about 25%.

not looking at kenpom I think there is a better chance we win monmouth, FDU, UMASS Lowell and go in to B1G thinking we can win 3-5 games. probability 12.5%

Bad news tonight USF (3-8) beats Jacksonville andTexas Southern (1-9) KEEPS GAME close @ Iona bumping RU from #254 to #256 in kenpom rankings

How many teams are ranked?
And where are our future OOC opponents ranked? Any below us?

We can go further rock bottom. Dorson Freeman and Sanders all go down for the year.

Choppin

I agree which is why I think it's better to support him because he's going to be here for another year.

monmouth 55
FDU 276
UMASS Lowell 316

351 total schools.

More bad news...we slipped to 258

Tennessee martin upsets St. louis in St. louis last night and leap frogs over us
The Penguins of Youngstown State #257 have a game Saturday vs. Michigan, if they get blown out maybe we move up a spot before Sunday :sunglasses:

I am worried tonight. The Bison of Lipscomb #263 have a road tilt vs. Tigers of Tennessee State #210. If Lipscomb were to pull off the mild upset they would surely leap frog us.:(

FDU, Tennessee Martin, Youngstown State, Lipscomb, Tennessee State... good to know who our peers are.

we are the running joke of college basketball. Just wait until they spotlight the highlights of the Monmouth bench everyone is gushing about making a mockery of our program. This is before the 20 point plus nightly beatdowns in Big 10 play
