It's year 4 of the Pike era and to our dismay we haven't shown enough improvement.
We aren't getting to the tourney this season and from what I see on the court now in conjunction with
lack of recruiting, next season doesn't seem promising.
If we don't see post season play next season (year 5), is Pike on the hot seat?
We now have this spectacular RWJ practice facility. Isn't the theory that top facilities draw top recruits?
I understand why it takes several years to turn a football program.
But basketball should be much easier.
It takes literally a couple good players.
Look at SHU. They have one great player in Powell and they are a top 20 team without great facilities.
To succeed it's all about recruiting.
Pike's honeymoon period has ended.
He has to show signs by year 5 that we are close.
If not, his seat will be warming up quickly.

Next year or bust. All we've heard is facilities...blah blah blah. Its coaching and recruiting. C & C so far.

well this season getting over 500 was my goal, if RU can go 8-3 non conference and 8-12 in league thats okay..but 8 wins in league may be stretching it. If he doesnt get over 500 THIS YEAR..then NEXT YEAR becomes an absolute must....I think what I fear is year 6 is the NCAA type push where the bulk of the team are seniors. I think Pike will get 6 years to do it and if we only make the NIT in year 6, he will be back for year 7

Recruiting is the name of the game and I am not happy with next years class so it has to pick up somewhere

The problem is not only recruiting. It's keeping the few good key players you have.
Losing Eugene was big.
These guys want to play in the Big Dance as much as we want to enjoy it as fans.
Come Junior year when it becomes likely it's not going to happen, some feel its time to bolt to greener pastures. Dante Jones and Rosario got there by leaving RU.
Sooner or later Rutgers has to recruit a program changer! That's the only way its going to happen.

In my opinion Pikiell should have until the end of the 2022 season (that's this one plus two more full seasons) to either make the NIT twice or the NCAA tournament once.

Those are fair expectations and would represent progress. His contract runs through 2024. In April of 2022 if he has hit that benchmark I would extend him. If not it's time to pass the hat for the buyout.
