I’m gonna say it…

The coaches didn’t fumble on the two and miss a 35 yard field goal. That being said. They went to the well too many times with the tight end play. That being said. It worked a lot. Thought Brown was more effective and they should have stuck with him. Defense doesn’t look at stout at last year.

IDK, offense better, defense worse. Better schedule 8-4. We have a respectable team again.
Say what? thought we should’ve gone with the TE’s more or involved the RBs in the pass game. VTech LBs were their weak link and Greg knew it. For the most part, we used those outlet passes to move the chains except in the red zone where we let a bunch of drives stall.

I’m not sure what you expected to see. They sold out against the run over and over again and we had an answer with the short passes the whole game. On the second to last drive after Strong’s big play, the issue wasn’t lack of creativity with the run it was just that we probably should have stuck with what was working. Another short pass on 1st down. Thats what they were giving us.
Wanted to see more runs to the outside , a pitchout and maybe a screen. Was referring to earlier in the game not next to last drive. I’m not talking about brown thought he did well .

I liked the play to the tight end. It worked well many times, I just thought doing it in that 4th and goal was questionable. I could be arm chairing QBing of course. Great to have a tight end!

Absolutely! And stubbornly continuing to run up the middle against 8 in the box.

Part of a run game is to beat-up a defense - don't need heavy yards all the time.
A lot of boring runs in 1st and 2nd Q are what cause the score to go up in the 4th

Absolutely. Much closer than it needed to be but to me it wasn’t about play calling. It was about not taking a FG when available and going for it on 4th down. I always laugh at people who think GS is too “consevative”. In my opinion at times he is way too aggressive in trying to “win” the game early.

Yes in that situation you kick. Going up 3 scores significantly increases your chances of winning. Nobody likes kicking from the 1 but you gotta coach with your brain not your guts sometimes.

It wasn’t there. I think some folks are thinking of VTech from last year especially since they gave up a lot of net rush yards this year before playing us. But recall they had several injured guys out from their D front last year.

This year - their D line plays tight rush D. The amount of the rush yards theyve given up are deceiving. They missed a couple assignments that went for a handful of big plays that comprise the bulk of those yards. On other rush plays they have been really stingy all season.

I understand going for it at the 1…would have done it myself.
But….
Anyway- we won and it felt like we never were in doubt unless we made a mistake.

Va Tech did a nice job slowing down our run game. We did a nice job with the RPO rollouts until they made a nice adjustment. They blew up around 6 plays with great DT play. Tip your caps to VA Tech they played very well on D. Our Offense did a great job in the first half keeping Drones off the field. Then they took momentum for around 10 minutes and dominated the game. Great play call by Clarocca to setup the game winner. Great call by Harasymiak and better play by Longerbeam to shut them down.

Or we were just one handoff and push away from being up 30-7 enroute to an easy 37-14 win
I love Schiano, but he got waaay too cute with his coaching decisions mid-game. Almost fully came back to haunt him. Have to put an apposing team down when you have the opportunity. This was inexcusable.

Would not be at all surprised if we find out the flu is going around the team. AK vomiting on the field, entire D gassed the last quarter and a half….would make sense to run out of gas a bit.

Either way, a TON to work on, but it’s always better to roll ugly tape and coach ‘em up after a W (and coach up the coaches a bit too).
That could be it. Need a few days of rest but hopefully kids recover fast.
Your boy at Syracuse looked like dog doo yesterday against a weak Stanford
Cal and Stanford are holding their own in the ACC so far. The conference is not as intimidating as ESPN would try to spin it.

My boy ? And we talking about in game Coaching acumen which we know Greg lacks. Jury is out on Brown.
Sure they choked but will still make a Bowl. Remember you will owe me a beer.

Well you hid during the Syralose debacle. Keep rooting for Rutgers old foes to succeed and lamenting over a QB who would never come to Rutgers. Weird flex.

If O subs, they have to allow D to sub. We got a few delay the game calls vs Akron doing the same thing. All the good coaches coach their D to do that now.
It’s the late O subbing that can get the delay of game. If the O subs quickly and crisply then there isn’t an issue.

I’ve seen it happen many times in the last couple of years. I think Gundy was the first one to use that “trick” a couple years ago.

A win is a win and it was especially sweet because I was down in DC for a wedding and there were several VTECH alums there making noise. Needless to say noise went away !
Watching on TV- I can’t recall a stadium going so dead quiet as when Sam Brown scored

You're on target and I assumed that RU needed to go to a passing game alot more to beat them. The coaches got that right and we would've never won if G avin was our QB. No matter what fans say our coaches know more than us--- but they should have kicked the fg on fourth at that point in game. Lol.

By the way if you suffered through the post game Acc analysis you heard them crying that VT couldn't beat an obviously sick QB.

Yeah, that was a home crowd advantage killer. Their fans got back into it in the second half for awhile. But ultimately went home sad.

I think their coach (and GS from his pregame press conference) are both correct about how VT is better than they played in this game. They have some really good players. I think our play had something to do with them struggling in the first half. But they also shot themselves in the foot a few times.

Thats true - but we certainly did the same. It doesn’t get worse than fumbling at the 1.

Ugghh Cal lost to FSU
2 missed FG. Similar issue to what we had last year -- inconsistency at PK. Overall, though, Wilcox D playing strong and once OL heals (key injuries have been an issue) and Mendoza gets time and Ott holes, the Offense will be fun to watch.
