You wanna know whats really lost in all this? Its that we were ALL lead to believe for MONTHS that Nadir needed some summer class to somehow gain back his eligibility. Don't you all remember the questions of "Why is it taking so long to find out if he is eligible?? everyone kept saying, well summer session isn't over yet be patient, maybe he'll pass blah blah blah.... and the endless reports and rumors of "its not looking good, highly doubtfull" , and " we need to wait until the end of summer session" etc.

I present 2 examples

and
http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...ach_kyle_flood_says_no_decision_yet_on_c.html

The prime quote? Flood said: "We won't know really until the end of the summer school.''

Reading both of those... you are totally led to believe by coach that the summer session had something to do with this. All along, it was ONLY about a Sping class grade. Why coach won't we know until the end of summer school when the student wasn't even taking a summer class?

This crap along with the crazy details in the report had me do an immediate 180 on this clown.

What was really happening, in real life? Ironically, I'll use one of my favorite cartoons to explain... It was our fearless leader, Elmer Friggin Flood saying "Shhhhh... Be vewwwy vewwwwy quiet, I'm hunting for a siwwwwy little GRADE change".

This is not going to end well. See Conclusion 2 in the report. The door for more action is left wide open. Now do we just have the nuts as a University to make this happen financially? That is the question.

Coach Elmer (my new name for you) - all I have left to say is "Uhh Buh Dee Uhh Buh Dee, Thats All Folks!"

If you read the report. The teacher gave Barnwell an additional assignment to complete during the summer. This is the paper that remains ungraded. Kyle was asking for and hoping this paper would change his grade. When Kyle and Barnwell both said they were still waiting on his grades, it was this they were referring to.

Yes I did read the report and understand about this paper... but again, as he should have known, and was specifically told by the professor via the email to the student and the academic advisors directly that you can't get a grade changed after the semester. These communications happened in May. Coach Elmer ignored that and went on his hunting trip anyways. Elmer and Barnwell weren't waiting on his grades they were waiting on whether or not Elmer would be successful in inappropriately coercing a professor to change a grade 3 months after the fact.

Obviously Flood broke the rules in meeting with the professor, and he is being punished for that. But the teacher did assign the additional work which was completed and submitted. Therefore saying that they were waiting for grades was not an unreasonable thing to say.

A football coach wants a key player to be eligible..And he tries to help him..The shock of it all!!!!!!

Again, you're missing my point. He also was quoted in one of the articles I linked about not knowing a decision until the end of summer school. Why did he say that when it had nothing to do with a summer class? Because he couldn't say what he was really trying to do. The paper and waiting on the grade was just another convenient mechanism for, and as a front to, his unethical actions... just as his clandestine off campus meeting was. It was the only reasonable thing to say to make this whole nonsense plausible.

Maybe the end of summer session was the drop dead date where spring grades couldn't be changed. However, I was also under the belief that Barnwell was taking a summer class all along.

Problem is the professor's decision was final until Flood intervened. It was after Flood reached out (after being told not to), that additional work was assigned. Flood had to know his position as head coach could influence the situation while taking steps to conceal his involvement. That is the ethical problem of it all. Other students in the university don't have one of the highest paid employees in the university going to bat for them when they literally F up their course work.

This is small potatoes compared to so many other violations at other schools, I so hate nj.com(Star Ledger). This should die down but I am sure it won't.

Once grades are posted they can't be changed. Barnwell didn't get a T-grade as Flood implied, he got an F. The only reason Barnwell was given consideration is because Flood got involved, which is exactly the problem.

Correct. What Flood did was very unethical. People here are spinning it as a good guy who was academically trying to help a struggling student. Uhm, no. Couldn't be FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH.

Flood was using his influence to alter the grades of his starting cornerback so he could continue playing for him. This wasn't even a case of just "looking the other way". This was clear and intentional attempt to manipulate and deceive. Yet people are saying this is no big deal???? Unreal.

If he really cared about Barnwell, he should have suspended him for the year and told him to get his act together or he is out. Instead, Flood's actions actually fed the mindset of these kids that they can do whatever they want because they are athletically gifted. The arrests, the discipline issues, these are all connected.

Exactly, forgot about the "T-Grade" factor....

Quote from Coach Elmer: "Now,'' he added, "this practice is not unusual at Rutgers. Many students all over campus receive what are called 'T grades' (temporary grades) doing work outside of when the class ends that semester to earn a better grade.''

Well if you read the report...nowhere does it mention any such T grade. So why the ef would Elmer talk about this? This didn't apply in this case. The grade was final in May and he knew that. Again, another lie to make it all SEEM like this "extra work" was on the up and up.

It won't die down because the national perception is that Rutgers is undeserving of a P5 spot. Too bad Flood foolishly gave the media more fuel for the fire.
