I Am Robeson Week is one of the Paul Robeson Cultural Center's marquee programs and a week-long celebration of Rutgers University's most esteemed alumnus, dear Paul Robeson (Rutgers College, Class of 1919). The son of a runaway slave, Paul Robeson is one of the most dynamic public figures of the 20th century with accolades as a two-time all-Athlete, actor, singer, cultural scholar, author, and international human rights activist.

I Am Robeson Week 2015 invites the Rutgers University community to learn about the life of Robeson, while celebrating his accomplishments and reflecting on the future of his legacy - both on and off of our campus. There are four events being offered to the community, which include:

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015 | Robeson: The Model Political Athlete
A talk about the long and robust history of black athletes and the American sports industrial complex by Joel Plummer, Department of Africana Studies. Held in the Paul Robeson Cultural Center Gathering Lounge from 8:00pm - 9:00pm.

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015 | “A Life of Activism & Art”: Book Signing
Professor and Author of “Paul Robeson: A Life of Activism & Art”, Lindsey Swindall will be visiting Rutgers University to discuss her book, as well as sign copies for guests. Performing artist, Grant Cooper will join Swindall with a series of Robeson’s speech and song vignettes. Held in the Paul Robeson Cultural Center Gathering Lounge from 5:00pm - 6:30pm.

Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 | Sankofa Film Series: Here I Stand (1999)
Sankofa Film Series is Paul Robeson Cultural Center’s monthly film screenings and discussions. Guests will be watching Here I Stand, the authority documentary on Paul Robeson’s dynamic life story. Discussion will be facilitated by PRCC staff, United Black Council and Paul Robeson Living-Learning community members. The film will be shown at The Rutgers Cinema on the Livingston Campus at 6:30pm.

Friday, December 4th, 2015 | Trip to The Paul Robeson House
The Paul Robeson House will be hosting the Rutgers University community for an afternoon tour of Paul Robeson’s house in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the house he lived in for the last 10 years of his life. After the tour, guests will enjoy free time in Philadelphia for lunch (not included) before returning back to campus. Tickets will be sold at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center Monday-Friday 9am -10pm, costing $10 for RU students and $15 for non-RU students. Departure time - 11am & Return time - 4:00pm.
