I liked it better in the Old Big East

Never said he was almost 20 years ago.....had we hired him and not Ash.....it's just my opinion that we wouldn't be whiffing on so many big time recruits

I'll go as far as to say it's a fact. Greg coached an NFL team.....think he's got a little cred ;)

Who'd we whiff on? LOI day 4 months away. And even had we hired Schiano we'd still be getting killed this year.

RUTGERSCHEWY sounds like a disciple of Professor Dowling.

Some may call him a loser, but that would be a disservice to legitimate losers everywhere.

Dude, we are a national joke today, our score against osu has college football fans across the county laughing at us. Getting our asses kicked for half the money everyone gets sure isn't awesome.
You aren't a national joke today, you aren't even relevant enough to be the subject of a national joke.

The only thing relevant about Rutgers is your TV market.

I guess Penn State should also never have joined the B1G.

"On November 11, 1889, Penn State suffered their worst loss in football history falling to Lehigh 106-0. And it might have been worse if the Lehigh head coach and the official had not decided to mercifully end the game with five minutes to go."

Don't care about Penn St, just care about RU and only look up Nit info when a thread is devoted to them or I fall into a hijack trap because someone hijacked a thread and made it about Penn St.

i could care less that we lost 58-0 and have no expectations for this season. With that said, even if Ash does a good job what is to say we will ever get near the level of OSU, UM, MSU, etc. My point is we may be punching above our weight even when we turn this around. The old Big East we could at least compete if we had good coaching and good talent for us.

Maybe if we beg, UCONN will switch places with us.

Some called RU a cable box play to get into the B1G. Apparently that was enough to get us into the club. And I'm OK with that.

I believe it was TexanMark of Syracuse that said that.

It is funny, I said I liked being in the Old Big East better. Didn't say we were better off or not in our current situation. I posted my opinion, which anyone can obviously disagree with. But the keyboard warriors with their name calling really is persuasive. I wonder how many of these "winners" ever actually played a down of football in their lives.

Seems the philosophy of some on here is: "When the going gets tough....give up."

I was raised in New Brunswick and have followed this team since around the age of 4, so that's close to 5 1/2 decades of being a Rutgers fan. I've seen the good, the bad, the ugly, the beyond ugly, and the "if this was a horse it'd be shot" level of play out on the field from RU, so I've endured what everybody else has here...in spades.

We're in a new league facing a whole new set of challenges. We've never played the sort of elite teams we're going up against now on a regular basis and the new staff is trying to build something out of the car crash the former staff left behind. So either hang in there and give this staff the time needed to right this ship, (and know there are going to be some rough times ahead for a while when we play the upper echelon programs of the B1G), or adhere to the above stated philosophy and do the rest of us a favor and pack it in.

WHIFFING ON SO MANY BIG TIME RECRUITS??? He's been here ONE year. Did you see the commit list? My god, pay SOME attention, please.

And just because some clown in Tampa thought it was a good idea didn't make it one. Or to put it another way, John McVay coached an NFL team longer than Schiano did.

Post first, then drink.

You know, I would have loved a "real" Big East. All of the "old Big East" and throw in Penn State and Maryland. I would have enjoyed that. Rivalries, teams within driving distance, history, etc.

But, much like Rutgers-Princeton and being rivals with Lehigh and Lafayette, that ship has sailed, albeit for different reasons. As a university, if not a sports program, we are where we belong with other flagship state universities with comprehensive academic and athletic programs. And I'm thrilled. Patience isn't easy when you've had more rough years than good ones over your lifetime, but Hobbs and Ash -- and Pikiell, for that matter -- aren't weighed down by decades of untapped potential and missed opportunities. Bitch for a day about games like today and then sit back and think about the possibilities headed our way. At least until next week.

Actually
Rutgers.
Boston College
Syracuse
Penn St
Pitt
Temple
UConn
VT
WV
Louie
Cincy
Maryland ( or Miami)
would have made a pretty good BE conference.
But the B1G is the best place for RU and the Turtles.

If we hadn't been invited to join the Big Ten the football program would not have survived due to the amount of subsidies that were occurring. It simply wasn't sustainable. We'd be sitting here debating if we should drop down to a lower level or discontinue the program.

UConn, Cincy, WV, Louisville, SU - a lot of those games were pretty entertaining (along with Navy and Army). I expected RU to suck in B1G and wasn't looking forward to it. The good thing is that RU leaders seemed to get the message that they had to up their game in B1G and getting rid of Floorman (Flood + Herman) and hiring Ash was a turning point.

Was specifically referring to the recent past....had KF been let go and a Schiano type been here then I don't think we whiff on kids like JG and the PC kids

Peppers was never coming here even with GS. Maybe, MAYBE Gary would have given us serious consideration but still doubt he'd have come. And Schiano's offense was never going to be the answer here. Even though it's painful this year and probably next, I'm ecstatic that we are now running a modern offense that's friendlier for US to recruit to.

You think Hansard chooses us over the Gators if Schiano's here.

OK.

This is the conference where we want to be. We need to step up to the level of competition. I agree the climb is steep and whether Ash is the right guy to take us up that hill remains to be seen. He is going to get every opportunity to do the job so we all need to support him until its clear he not the guy. Won't know that for a couple of seasons.

It wasn't that long ago we beat Michigan. We beat Michigan State to open 2004 when we went 4-7 in the aftermath of the accident after the homecoming game. To say now that we can't possibly get near the level of teams we've already beaten belies the evidence of what has gone before. We can because we already have, and we will again.
Flood did a lot of damage to this program and it will take some years to get the players that fit this system and develop them. I think when the class being recruited now are juniors, we will see a program that competes on the level just below the elite and gives the elites a run for their money. Give him 3 more years and we may well be elite ourselves. In 15 years you may want to put a statue of Chris Ash in your backyard.

What's sad is that the Big East could have been a great conference. I've been consistent from day one: from a geographical standpoint, the ACC was a much better fit. In order to get into the B10 we had to take over a medical school that resulted in 4300 well paying lost jobs. For what? For who? To play in the B10? We don't have the foundation or the depth to beat the 4 best teams in this conference. In time PSU will get better and 4 will grow to 5. Don't let today's score fool you. Urban Meyer didn't want to humiliate his formor DC.

It's either Big Ten or AAC. It's either OSU blowing us out or Houston blowing us out. It's either 40 million dollars a year or 4 million.

I liked the Big East too but we are in 100x better shape then UConn.
so you say its good to prostitute your self to the big 10 to help their tv ratings?

From your lips to God's ears.

I will repeat what Julie Herman said. For the next (now 3) years, with our Budget, we are essentially a Big East team playing in the Big Ten.

When the money is here we can continue to build awesome facilities and raise the fan experience, use that to recruit the best and get to where we should be. But anyone that thinks we can compete with Ohio State using the budget of UConn is not seeing the bigger picture.

If we ended up getting stuck in the AAC, I would just tear down the upper decks, tarp the student section, and start playing Princeton again.

Aren't you a huge wrestling fan? Why do you think we recruit better now in that? B1G

First there was the real big east, with Miami an V tech..... We could not compete, it was nearly as bad as it seems now

It took one raid of the big east to make us look like a div 1 team, record wise

It took another raid of the big east to destroy the pathway to the championship, and put the league in a permanent state of turmoil.

So, when someone says they miss the big east, which version was it?..... The one we left morphed into the AAC, and that does almost nothing for me, and most fans.

Let's get better, slowly if necessary, and compete at a higher level.

Ok so you're telling me that once we get all that revenue we'll be competitive? Or are you saying that we'll get our asses handed to us in much nicer facilities. This is not about money!! This is about a Rutgers school that has a major image problem within the State of NJ, let alone NY. Money is not going to land us blue chip prospects. That will take a very special coach with national notoriety who views us as a philanthropic project.

Which version of the big east did you like? .... The first one where we always finished at the bottom?
Or, after the first raid?,.... Or the AAC leftover league?

Anyone expecting anything more than a rocky season was just not being realistic. In fact, if anything the defense has improved more and sooner than I had hoped for so I'm impressed. The offense is a pile of crap but I expect the coaches to make some progress on that soon.

Not Source, but will give some Source style info to those who might feel the B1G is to big for RU.
Maybe these scores will put fear in their hearts about belonging to the Ivy League with the way teams belonging to the Ivy League (now) handled the RU FB team and I'll add another program that should be given a wide berth when RU schedules its OOC.

Nov.10 1886, Penn 65, Rutgers 0

Nov. 5 1887 Yale 74, Rutgers 0

Nov. 10 1888 Princeton 82, Rutgers 0 (New Brunswick)
Oct. 24 1888 Princeton 80, Rutgers 0 ( Princeton)
Oct. 6 1888 Yale 65, Rutgers 0

Oct. 19 1889 Wesleyan 58, Rutgers 4

Nov. 3 1890 Yale 70, Rutgers 0
Pre modern era, but we give up 58 to Wesleyan, but still record 2 safeties or they give us 4 points. Have never seen a game with 4 points.

It's these woe is me posts that piss me off. We've been a member for 3 years and you're already giving up.

We get a full share of $ in 5 more years. That alone makes it a long time before we see the money the other teams get. And much longer than that before we catch up.
