I Wasn't Born Yesterday In The Hills-Think the Stills "Situation" Was A Publicity Stunt by WVU

Boy at 4pm we were just speculating Stills would decommit. It happened within hours. I'm VERY suspicious this was a BIG attempt at a publicity stunt by a hurting, desparate West Virginia University. I offer ths evidence:

1) Rutgers ascention into the B1G combined with the hiring of Ash, has really helped Rutgers recruit, thus hurting other schools including West Virginia.(getting pummelted in the Big12 and revenues/gate may even be down (they are used to winning teams).
WVU in the past has relied on Jersey recruits -I'm from Bridgewater so Tom Gray and Wayne Brown of Somerville (1979,1980 come to mind). Haver also become acquainted with Curlin Beck from, those years but he wasn't from NJ I believe.

WVU also depends on the malcontent spoiled kids of Jerseyeans for their student body. WVU is a safety school for many a not so good New Jersey student (I'm sure there are a few good ones in the mix-over the years most alumni whom Ive met had good experences ).

2) Now, you have Stills who probably is so (disappontingly?) bad that Rivals had him 2 stars. He has no 1-A offer until RU and desp[ite from a Mountineer family -and coincidentally a 4-star brother-Stils has no WVU offer-until Rutgers...

3) Stills gets his Rutgers offer-and amazingly decommits within a few hours of his RU offer-to WVU-who probably has followed Stills since Pop Warner.

Sorry guys -I'm not an idiot. This was either was a set up to make WVU look good (and Rutgers bad). This is
a Harbaugh like recruiting tactic (did he coach at WVU?)-OR MAYBE SOMEONE IN MORGANTOWN, A .500 PROGRAM AT BEST NOWADAYS AND CONSIDERED THE LOSER IN CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT, WAS AFRAID OF A STATE OF WEST VIRGINIA TO rfUTGERS RECRUITING PIPELINE WOULD DEVDELOP (AND OH THE 4 STARV YOUNGER BROTHER...)

..Or that WVU didn't want every blonde cheerleader of theirs from every preseason magazine (I've hooked up with the last 25) winding up at Rutgers and in my bed!

If you are from WVU and believe that Chris Christie has a bridge from Parkersburg to Morgantown he wants to sell youj (and maybe for Revenge-he shuts down lanes akin to how WVUs running game has been shut down in the Big12)

Actually inside word from the athletic administration is that it was a huge mistake. Unbeknownst to most it was "Take a former AD to work day". Good ole Fred Gruninger was in the house-and ready top roar. Problem is Fred's a bit senile these days. Thought he was working in MLB. Called the Yankees and thought he was getting Beltran in return for converting the Mountaineers' concessions to all chicken-including a "stiil" of non-alcoholic chicken...

This is nothing. I am working with this age group. This is the norm. They commit to one thing and turn right around and back out of doing the job. The ones that do say what they are going to do, are fair and few in between. Be thankful that those already on board seem to have the values needed for the long haul.

RUN VA-your overgeneraizations about whatever generation are worse than anything I said (and quite possibly true). You remind me of my town induced social worker who makes a mess of everything she does.

ON the banks you are here because interesting conversation and intelligence don't necessary correlate with membership on a premium board. ***By the way how much faster than 2 hours LOL did the wealthy chosen ones get the "bad news?"

Use your noodles. This is a legacy kid with a 4-star brother. West Virginia has likely known him since he was a kid. Then, all of a sudden after he receives a Rutgers offer
he reneges withn 2-3 hours??? after a WVU offer quicker than that? If I'm wrong this is one dumb MFing son-and father (methinks there was more here that meets the eye-maybe ther offer indeed was to prevent RU from starting an out of state pipeline to WVU from NJ. That's quite reasonable to believe as we alredy recruit Maryland decently well. If in state the B1G is perceived to be better-or better for the in state players (than the Big12)-WVU stands to lose a lot.

At worse this "immature" crazy kld-andc father-must have known that the WVU offer was contingent upon RU's offer.. Commitment?, crazy?-yeah LIKE A FOX! This player didn't even think about the switch..I went out expecting a Beltran trade by 4PM but even joking abut Stills I didn't expect for days if not months.

To be honest about it, my first thought when I saw the commit from Stills and did some reading about him, was that Ash only wanted him because it was a path to getting at his 4-star younger brother. I wondered if the kid would ever wind up getting playing time here anyway.

Stills is a West Virginia kid, his dad went there, his brother is going there and his family can see him play there. From a football standpoint (not academics) RU was his best offer prestige wise and this changed with WVU offer. With the change in options his decision changed. What should he do here? You can go to your second choice and keep your commitment or go to your first choice and break your commitment. If it were reversed and he chose Rutgers over a less football school people would be rationalizing differently, guarantee it. From someone on this site since the rutgersfan.com days.

Based upon what I had read, it seemed like WVU was his dream school. Home town school with Dad having been a grad and NFL player. I think he was always going there if offered. Better now that a few days before NSD when we would have lost other kids to hold a spot for him.

Please, wasn't it obvious that if the Mountaineers offered he was gone ?
Let's move on.

...or maybe he likes flying thousands of miles semi-weekly during football season.

......either way I think this thread is right up there with 'put a tarp over Giants Stadium to host a BCS game' in terms of ridiculousness.

Not a pro caliber player so the move only hurts him with their academics being trash. Cant blame a kid for going where his father played and hes grown up around however. The whole premise of "fence the garden" is to retain in state kids and this is what WVU just did. He did do this is a crappy way by committing when uncertain but i mean hes a kid stuff happens.

SMH... I guess someone should have told Wendell Smallwood, the Big XII's leading rusher in 2015 that the WVU running game has been shut down. Ha ha, dummy.

I love the fact that these Buttgers fans think they are even semi relevant in the college sports world....bottom feeders, always have been, always will be.

As a WVU fan this happens to us all the time with kids from Florida and Ohio, We offer a kid early, and get a commitment, then after several targets above the kid we recruited turns down schools they jump on our commitment. We lose kids to Ohio State, Florida State and the Gators this way.

I don't think it was a setup to make Rutgers look bad. Stills jumped at an offer then moved on when his dream school woke up and made an offer.

...pretty much agreed. The original theory is definitely a bit 'out there', especially since Rutgers and WVU are in 2 different leagues with WVU not even really recruiting the Northeast much anymore.

Just when we thought days of recruits de-commiting was over, we had the fastest de-commit in the history of CFB.

Leave it to Rutgers to have a commit that was shorter than a Kardashian marriage. You Rutgers people should stick to things you are good at...like GTL and other Jersery shore'esque pastimes. Just leave the football stuff to the big boys.

It strangely hilarious to come over and see RU fans talk down to WVU. Glad to see you with such confidence. Hopefully one day you boys can fill those britches.

1) WVU hasn't recruited Jersey well in a long time.

2) the rest of the student body at WVU has zero to do with this (not saying there aren't a lot of NJ kids at WVU, there are....)
