Basketball INSTANT REACTION: Rutgers Basketball falls to No. 24 Illinois 76-58

I like Pike. I’ll never advocate for his firing even if he has four straight miserable seasons. He’s all class. But this team is straight garbage and I guarantee he knows it. It’s a bridge year to the real year so the goal is to not be a joke, just be regular bad.

Pike during post game interview - "Add some pieces to our rotation." Who is he talking about? Pike played 8 guys 19+ minutes tonight.

Well today was a joke. So he is 0-1 !

This team would be pretty good with Mag, Jeremiah, Hyatt, Woolfork and Omouryi getting the most minutes.

Simpson has some flash, but he’s not a rock.

Fernandes is fine when he’s better than the guy he’s staring at, but no confidence when he’s got to play someone athletic which is probably why he looked good against paul last year.

Griffin looks okay, kind of where we expected. Hard to pin point it, i think he’s just young with still some big eyes out there, maybe when he gets some battles and gets some emotion in his game.

Omouryi has his issues. Unless he has a wide open dunk he misses every time. I get he’s double teamed a lot but that means someone else is open. You can tell Griffith has talent. He needs more experience. Fernandes is not a B1G level player. Hyatt and Simpson had off nights. Illinois is better than we thought.

Fell asleep watching the game. Glad I did. Looking at the stats, the thing that stood out is being out rebounded 49-23.

Mag will help. Cliff missed shots and a dunk before I fell asleep.

Illinois looked legit early. Sounds like the same in the 2nd half, except no big run by RU with the press.

Only one game, but stinks to see a butt whooping at home.

They saw how Princeton bodied us. They had the bodies to do that. Refs "let em play" despite making lots of calls.. they couldn't call everything. Men vs boys in many parts.

We just did not hit enough shots. We drew contact plenty.. not enough calls our way and not enough FT hits. A miracle run near end of first half made it look like more of a game than it was.

But, damn, Pike.. when refs missed all those euro-step travels by Shannon you got to force them to recognize what just happened. It was ridiculous. The first one he took off from the ARC... no way he get to rim without travelling... and with 2 changes in direction!

Not that it mattered.. but it set a tone.

The Ogbole watch has begun.
Mag.. that's my guess about adding to the rotation.

And the thing is... Mag is a leader. And is tough. And that's what we needed in both losses against stronger guys than we got. We got out-muscled and that why we got out-hustled for rebounds.. our guys had to stiffen up against getting pushed around for boards and that made us slow to move to the ball. That's my take anyway.

The Ogbole watch has begun.
Some confusing info on Ogbole is emanating from the Rutgers athletics communications people.

At the top of his bio, Emmanuel is listed as 6'10" 260.

In the bio's narrative, the identical Rutgers basketball player is described as a, "6-foot-11, 242-pound center."

Anybody know Ogbole's true height and weight, and why the same scarletknights.com webpage lists inconsistent data for the ballplayer.
