Investigation (changed title)

I'm sure this is a big pile of nothing. Coaches can't email a teacher? Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

As someone who has counseled schools on NCAA investigations, this is the most over-blown, clickbait article ever. Unless Flood specifically asked a teacher to change a grade or do something outside the rules, actually contacting a professor directly is not a termination worthy offense.

I can understand the policy. I can't picture Flood strong arming a teacher based on his integrity and his background as an educator. As the facts come out we'll see what this is really about but I suspect Flood just wanted an update on Barnwell's status. That said, he evidently didn't go about it the right way. The SL (with others in media and the anti-Flood crew piling on) will attempt to turn this into a scandal of epic proportions.

What's false about it?
We are quite a few steps removed from the topic of firing.

If i told you I went to the beach and you then told people that I could die from a shark attack it would be true because it is a possible outcome. However it is sensational and unlikely. You don't even know that I went in the water.

Likewise your subject line is sensational regarding Flood. Until there are confirmed facts of wrongdoing describing the situation in terms of a potential punishment is just inflammatory and irresponsible.

Writing something in click bait form makes you a desperate troll.

How long does it take for someone to actually investigate what was said on an email?

This is serious. A private email to talk about a questionable athletes grades with a teacher is troublesome. No way around that. Most jobs don't allow people to use private emails.y

Oh, and nice work by Julie- referring all questions to Barchi. Don't need her putting gasoline on the fire.

They can email the professors, BUT they can't ask them to change grades or pressure them to change grades. No one knows what the email says. If the emails is just asking for an update, it is no big deal, if it seems like he is trying to get them to change the grade or get him passed then it is a serious problem. Also you never know how some professors react to to any interaction. They may think he is speaking in code or something.

Most Head coaches are so worried about a professor getting the wrong idea that they are typically asked by the AD to avoid them like the plague.

On a show on BTN, some of the Big Ten Basketball coaches talked about this, that they are told to not even talk to professors at all. He said that he was scared to even tell them hello when he saw them in the hallways.

There can only be two outcomes to this:

1) Total non-story and Sargeant is complete @ss for the article. Chalk another one up to NJ.com.

2) Flood asked for a specific grade for Barnwell and should be fired immediately for his stupidity/violation.

Let's hope it's #1.

Agreed. From the whispers, it's closer to number 2.

That is true. However, unless this is a systematic thing he does with a long history -- it's no big deal. When you have multiple e-mail accounts on your phone, this could happen accidentally from time to time. From an accidental swipe of a finger, I've accidentally e-mail colleagues from my personal e-mail address and vice versa.

There is plenty of room for benefit of the doubt as a "honest mistake"

Forget the investigation. We don't need to know the truth. Just put Politi on the job and I'm sure he can get Rutgers the death penalty by writing a series of fairy tales.

This. OP, not saying this isn't worthy of discussion, but you knew exactly what you were doing with the title; quit the 'who, me???' indignation.

Contacting the professor was wrong.

Let's hope that it was something as simple as asking when grades would be in. I too can't see Flood doing something underhanded.

Let's put it this way...someone close to me used to work in the AD (those who know me know I'm not bs'ing). As I was just told:
"You know how much they drilled those regulations into me when I worked there. I mean, it’s not like you don’t know."

Will be interesting to see what comes of this. If it's a "what can we do to help Nadir", that's different than "what can you do to help Nadir".

The coming from a personal email thing might be a non-issue. If he sent the email from a smartphone that has multiple accounts is could very easily be an honest mistake. I have about 6 linked accounts on my phone and I've accidentally sent email from the wrong account before.

Flood isnt stupid, he knows everything he does is analyzed 50 different ways by the NJ media, he wouldn't risk his career leaving an email trace of something that would be a worth firing.

Jason, agreed; I think the content of the email (and how many) are the key points.

I think that Flood is too smart to try to ask for preference in favor of Nadir. This will hopefully be a slap on the wrist just for contacting a professor directly.

If it is just a case that Flood contacted the professor directly and did not ask for a undeserved grade, then it sucks that he got thrown under the bus by the professor.

If it is more than that then he'll probably get suspended.

Could it be that all he did was to expedite the grade so the kid isn't left hanging?
