Investigation (changed title)

There can only be two outcomes to this:

1) Total non-story and Sargeant is complete @ss for the article. Chalk another one up to NJ.com.

2) Flood asked for a specific grade for Barnwell and should be fired immediately for his stupidity/violation.

Let's hope it's #1.
Big difference between breaking the story about coach sending an email to a professor and reporting a university investigation of the head football coach. Reporter did the latter. He did nothing wrong and was obligated to report it.

This BS when North Carolina is about to get a wrist slap for the non courses their athletes took for years.

As a Penn State fan, I hope this works out for Rutgers and Flood. He has done a great job of keeping Rutgers right where they belong.

Chances of Flood emailing a professor to ask that a player of his have a grade changed is 0%.

People are gullible, especially the arm chair GM's who want a new head coach before the season starts.

Welcome to Rutgers. What a joke.

OP thread should have the title changed at a minimum, probably deleted. The thread was titled that way with an underhanded purpose in mind, don't pretend it wasn't.

Agreed. From the whispers, it's closer to number 2.

Precisely what whispers indicate its closer to #2?

If I wanted to tell you, I would have.
And did you see his idiotic statement where he admitted to it?

This is a serious investigation. He should know better, especially when it comes to academics.
Why use a private E-Mail address? Ugh.

It's on Hillary's server, and they can't find the e-mail. They asked HIllary where the e-mail and server were, and she replied:

( my Kyle e-mail guess)

Dear Professor,
I would appreciate if you would inform me of any decision made on the academic status of Nadir Barnwell as soon as possible.
So I will know if Nadir is eligible or not to be on my 2015 roster or if I should plan on him not qualifying in 2015

I am not asking you to help make Nadir qualify academically for the 2015 season, but only let me know if he will or not so I can plan
my 20I5 roster.

Sincerely
Kyle

As far as the whispers of grade change: Too often whispers like that are reported, without a shred of evidence to back it up.
Not saying some on this board hasn't heard people claiming they heard of Flood trying to influence grade change, only saying those rumors probably are based on misinformation put out by those who are just guessing about Kyle's e-mail .

If I wanted to tell you, I would have.
And did you see his idiotic statement where he admitted to it?

Oh I see. So the original post and thread title is purposely inflammatory based on knowledge of the situation personal to you, that you don't want to share. In that case, I would lean towards deleting the thread, as opposed to merely changing the title. Clearly the premise for the thread title is non-public information.

If I were the school, I would just release the full contents of the email. If Flood merely asked when the grade would be released, and it is the professor behind making this public, I would release the professor at the first opportunity for being underhanded and deceitful.

What Flood actually said in his statement was this per the NJ Advance Media article:

"Let me start by saying I'm disappointed at the tone of the article that (associate athletic director for media relations) Hasim (Phillips) showed me this morning," Flood said. "I've been the head coach now, this is going into my fourth season, and I've had a lot of interaction with the teachers on our campus. I think that that article not only insults my integrity, but insults the integrity of our faculty. I've come to realize that our faculty here at Rutgers is beyond reproach and I have a tremendous amount of respect for them."

Flood did not specifically address the investigation, but offered an explanation for his correspondence with a professor.

"Our faculty are part of our program," Flood said. "Just as recently as the other day, we had two faculty members at our practice. Now, any correspondence that I had with a professor in regard to a student-athlete would really be of this nature: One, to be in support of whatever decision that faculty member made, and two, to inquire as to whether or not there would be an opportunity to earn a better grade. Now, this practice is not unusual at Rutgers. Many students all over campus receive what are called 'T grades' (temporary grades) doing work outside of when the class ends that semester to earn a better grade."

Asking whether a student will have an opportunity to improve a grade is not asking a teacher to change a grade. It is merely asking if the grade is final, or if there is anything the student can still do that will have an impact.

I believe coach when he says that was the email contents. Therefore, this thread is ridiculous, and has no purpose unless or until someone shows that Flood is lying.

It's not. From the article linked, it even states he could be fired. Use some common sense here. You're a lawyer, you should have some.

If fired, this could be the difference between a 4-8 and a 6-6 season. Might also take our recruiting from mediocre to crappy.

Not to defend Flood but I would bet he asked for an "update" on Nadir Barnwell's grade status from this summer class ...perhaps he asked if there was anything which could be done
to speed up the decision going forward and let's be clear on this about grades ...there are many instructors at Rutgers who would or have over-reacted when questioned about their course ...Flood has been known to be very pro academics over his time as an assistant and head coach...It doesn't make much sense...At any school this professor would have NEVER reported it as a violation...

I hope flood didn't write that. It is a big no no. To even hint at grades Is risky. Flood should have nothing to say to a teacher about grades period.

THIS. A coach should not be discussing grades with a Prof, especially asking if anything could be done (wink, wink) to change it.

Yes and technically if you get a splinter and it gets infected you could die too, but that doesn't mean you go around screaming that every 5 minutes.

Uh, you shouldn't be doing that.

Smart money says he won't last the week once Fox News gets a hold of the story.

30 minutes if it's MSNBC, although Al Sharpton could break with the company line and accuse Sargent of racism if it involved Barnwell.

Wouldn't be the first time that the media jumped on a non-story and tried to make a quick buck off a headline. That said, lots and lots of smoke around this and if it were as simple as an innocent e-mail to a professor, I don't think you would see an internal investigation handled by external contractors. I suspect the e-mail, sent from a private e-mail address, has a tone of improprieties that require further investigation (i.e. speaking to the professor, asking flood if he has done this before, possible searching of his private e-mails, etc.). If it was a simple e-mail with nothing at all to raise an eyebrow, they would report to the NCAA and be done with it. Hiring outside investigators and opening a full investigation is not a good sign at all for Flood.

Just a thought, but is it possible RU is looking for an excuse to get rid of him and he gave them something that normally would result in a hand slap/minor suspension, that could turn into a firing getting them out of his contract obligations?

You open up an interesting discussion. The sunshine mafia will have none of this, but let's just say the HC or the AD aren't exactly friends.

...or maybe Rutgers gets accused of corruption of they don't go 'to the outside'???

Your behavior in this thread (and the other one) has been wholly irresponsible.

Also, since there's no question as to what your "source" is, maybe you should be worrying about somebody other than Flood getting fired.

not buying it with the exception that this is how we usually do things around here...Waters, Hill,

big nothing...although the media will milk it for everything they can..if you fart at Rutgers it is news

She doesn't work there any more Chomps.
And how is it irresponsible? He admitted asking (wink, wink) if there was any way the grade could be changed

Let's say you back up your implication of the HC or the AD aren't exactly friends and since when is not accepting whispers OF wrongdoing make someone a sunshine mafia member.

And that's the thing. You think Barchi wants a "scandal" or any other type of distractions. He will launch Flood so far under the bus.

It doesn't per se, but they do tend to group together and whine to the mods.

As a lawyer, I am trained to sniff out bullshit. As I said in my post above, since edited, asking if a student will have further opportunity to improve his or her grade is not, as you seem to think, asking a prosfessor to change a grade without proper reason. It is not asking for special benefits. You are choosing to read it that way. In fact, it is merely asking if the grade is final. Everything negative there is in Flood's statement is being read into it by you.

Second, the article does not state flood could be fired for this email. What it actually states is that:

"If Flood is found to have failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance by attempting to provide an impermissible benefit to a student-athlete in his program, possible discipline includes a public reprimand, suspension or termination from his contract"

The notion that this email may or does constitute a "failure to promote compliance by attempting to provide an impermissible benefit" is entirely conjecture. Moreover, if what Flood says is true, that he asked if the player would have any further opportunities to improve his grade, than he has clearly NOT asked for an impermissible benefit. He has merely asked if the grade was final.

The misplaced supposition and innuendo you are applying to this story is completely unjustified.

This tool wants to give us the impression that he knows things that we don't. But this is a message board. The only credibility you have is the information you show others. Either you say what you know or you sit down and STFU. RU5781 is about as useful as a gym sock that was defiled by his avatar.

You think it would be real difficult to start connecting dots?

Seriously, this is a very weak performance on your part. It will come back to bite you in the ass.

These dots can never be connected. She doesn't wave flags on FB to who she still talks to or anything like that.
