Is Ash in a recruiting bind?

Here's a football question. We currently have 13 commits. Let's assume that there are no more decommits and that Ash can't get Fuller or any other 4 stars to commit. Would he have to fill up the roster with 2 or 3 star or JC kids? If that's the case, wouldn't that have long term damaging effects on the overall talent level needed down the road? Am I missing another scenario that wouldn't result in an overall talent decline?

Probably add some players and carry over some scholarships.

He's been on the job for a few weeks and he's already in a recruiting bind? Yes, the Flood years were not necessarily kind to overall talent, however, we don't lose much from last year's team. Ash and staff will be fine. The key will be to recruit kids allowing a transition from a pro style to a power spread and these days we see many freshman across the land making significant contributions to their teams.

Grad students, transfers, juco. But there are still a number of strong nj plaers looking this way possibly...or Ted Field

Expect to see a few defensive players from Ohio who didn't draw an Ohio State offer, but offers from Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron, Bowling Green, Ohio, Youngstown State, etc. The chance to play in the Big Ten on TV every week against Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and TTFP every year should trump suiting up for the Ohio teams named here.

The class size may not be as large as it would have been but as shields said there are a lot of good kids still out there. There is at least 1 decommit who still plans to visit. There are decommits from other schools who may now be interested. I just don't think we're going to hear anything in the near future The 2 weeks between the dead period and NSD should be very interesting. Be patient.

While who can say what will happen, at least you can say coach Ash is talking to people that could clearly help the program. admittedly he is catch up mode but you have to like the level of the kids he is involved with. At least we are not throwing offers at kids who the last time you hear their names mentioned is on signing day.

Hilarious, one of the blindest Flood supporters out there is NOW concerned about football related questions. There wasn't too much concern out of you when the program was going down the crapper under the previous regime.

Get over yourself. I've always been concerned about RU football. And the program was not going down the crapper. It's ok to have a different opinion than you about Flood, isn't it? But we have a new coach and I fully support him. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has recruiting questions during this transition.

Yes, you fully support Ash, which is why you are saying he might have a class of two stars and will, according to you, have "long term damaging effects on the overall talent level needed down the road". BOski is right. It's down right hilarious when you didn't care about long term damaging effects under Flood now suggesting it under Ash.

Support Ash my ash.

Before you have a heart attack, read over my original post. See the questions marks? They were questions, not statements that he will have this or that. But you guys just love to attack people, don't you?

Your passive aggressive question mark attacks on Ash doesn't change the fact that they are still attacks on Ash.

Harbaugh didn't exactly kill it in his month before NSD.. granted he didn't have the previous existing relationships in the HS community ash does..but people expecting kids this late in the game to sign on with a staff that doesn't even exist and there is no comfort level with is unrealistic. 2016 class is going to be a disappointment/ wash but hardly worse than keeping previous clown..wait for next year to see amd judge recruiting results

Ash has to get a staff in place, but it's a dead period right now, so there isn't much a staff could do any way right now besides call and text potential targets.

I agree that its too early to judge Ash on this recruiting class. But that pass has an expiration date, because his decision to stay at OSU will garner serious criticism from the fans and the media if his season falls apart in 2016. He should have severed his ties with OSU and started work here immediately. I blame the AD for negotiating this into his contract. Starting immediately would have demonstrated a certain degree of loyalty and commitment to Rutgers. Everyone understands that he cannot approach recruits during this period, but putting together a solid coaching staff is just as important as bringing in elite talent. When one considers his most recent hire (OC) it gives the impression that he is not dedicating 100% of his time to these decisions. I hope his next hire gives us optimism and hope.

1) who's expecting any type of season, 2016, that could possibly "fall apart"???

2) He IS working, for us, on a daily basis. Maybe you should listen to what the guy has had to say about what he does on a daily basis.

I don't mean to be rude but you are not very bright if you believe this. The guy just got promoted to a job that will pay him 2 million dollars per year. He isn't a plumber in the Union watching a clock each day. If you read his latest article with Duggan, he is sleeping 4 hours a day.

I do believe in what I say and whether I'm bright or not will depend on his results next year and the year after. Are you genuinely happy with his most recent hire? Are you ok with him being at OSU until 1/2/16? I've been watching college football my whole life, as a matter of fact I enjoy it much more than pro football. I can count on one hand coaches who have stayed with a former employer until bowl season was over. College football over the past 4 decades has morphed into a business where winning is paramount, and those who win the most earn the most. How do you win? A competent HC and staff. Recruiting very good athletes who are hungry to play on Sunday's. A strength & Condition unit that molds those very athletes into NFL players. Finally, playing a team with mature 22 & 23 year olds is critical for a program like Rutgers. This program is fragile and one or two bad moves away from having two or three consecutive losing seasons. It's not as if my point that he should be here has no merit, trust me it does.

I'm annoyed.

I kept looking past this thread since it's inception, slow to recognize the wonderful opportunity for a joke (I hate it when my Ash gets all bound up). But I thought I better check to see if someone had done the joke already and lo and behold, there you are trotting out the old Himalayan constipation post.

Damn you, KnightsofChrome, damn you! [laughing]

This is what I'm hoping for. There are plenty of talented B-list players in Ohio and I'm sure Ash is working on securing them. I'm so tired of prima donna NJ players.
