Is Doucoure enrolled at Rutgers?

Doucore and Thiam is strange analogy. They are actually nothing alike when it comes to what attributes/skills they lack and need to hone before being solid contributors in the BIG. One guy is a good shooter with a stick for a body. The other is an above average athlete with limited skills and offensive footwork. Completely different.

RUSojo - Perhaps I was not clear. I agree that Thiam and Doucoure are completely different types of players. What I was trying to say is they are comparable in that they both have substantial upside but that we will not see it in from them during their freshman seasons. That is certainly acceptable as both should be very good players as they mature.

This is interesting. Peach Jam was earlier this month and there are stats for Doucoure (I wasn't there and haven't watched video). Does RU have a summer session that starts after July 14?

Or, as someone suggested he may take classes at RU to become eligible. He'd have to pay or get financial aid through another means.

Looks like there are Summer session sections that begin on July 10th (4 sections), July 24th (1 section), and July 31st (1 section), depending on the course itself.

I wonder if the condescending posters about Doucoure reclassifying will get off their high horses when they acted soooo arrogant that this was even being discussed before
I was wondering the same exact thing. Many on here lambasted those who said this could be a possibility. No one has manned up yet to admit they were wrong. Maybe we should pull up one of those old threads. Lord knows I've eaten crow on here plenty of times and manned up to it.

I was texting some with Isaiah Mucius and he said that he did not see Coach Pikeill at his games in Kansas City

Yeah,

Doesn't really matter except that some were real jerks when we said he might be reclassifying per the admins.

Hmm something is up here. RU cooling on Policelli and now Mucius potentially. Have to wonder what thought process is here?

@Russ Wood Can you give some insight regarding the normal process for coaches to speak with recruits after they go to watch a game at an event like that? What happens when Pike, Ollie, and whoever else is recruitng Mathis all show up. Do they wait their turns, jockey for order, or all huddle up in a circle at once. Just curious what's the recruitng circuit societal norm when it comes to multiple HC wanting face time.

They can't directly speak to recruits at AAU events, merely be seen in attendance.

There is no contact allowed during the evaluation period for certified AAU events. Coaches may watch games and that is it. If an AAU event is certified by the NCAA, the event organizers are supposed to provide a viewing area for the coaches that is away from general public, bathrooms that are for college coaches only and a separate entrance/exit to the gym for college coaches. They are also supposed to have people monitoring this to make sure a fan or player doesn't wander over to the 'coaches area'

He did play in the Peach Jam. I followed the box scores as the games were played. I think he averaged 4.8 ppg and about 6 rpg. He didn't shoot many fg attempts. I seem to remember he played about 15 mpg or just under half a game.

This guy is all potential. Think Hamady as a freshman. Redshirt is needed. It is not worth burning it. Use the walkon big if we have to. It will pay off down the line. Unless we were adding a starter with the last ship next year will be an 11-12 win season with or without him.

People were shutting down this conversation of Doucoure reclassifying because it was said that it wasn't going to happen. Obviously, its a changing market. No one can be too sure, and no one is to blame.

Nonetheless, I think it is best for Doucoure to get on campus asap. It shows recruits they have a player that will help them win. Also, it provides depth. Whereas Johnson is a skill based player, and has a nice shot, Doucoure is going to be more of a physical presence. He will add versatility in his role. I think if he played his freshman year he would average 3-4 ppg, and 5 rebounds. It would be a nice addition.

No way he redshirts...he's physically better than Myles Johnson today...RU will not have any chance to build on momentum from last year if Doorson doesn't play much (a very realistic possibility given his injury history)....having just 2 bigs over 6'9" (Sa and freshman Myles Johnson) in the B1G, isn't feasible as an option to have a chance on the glass, which is the only feasible way RU stays in games right now.

This is the reality of a top heavy upperclassmen roster that will take another year to rebalance the scholarship layout. An ideal situation is a JUCO next year to replace Sa and Freeman, to give some toughness and experience to help in 2018-19, but if he is enrolled (clearly he is by most accounts), RU cannot play with just 11 active rosters members for a 33-35 game schedule.........Walk-on PF/C Luke Nathan will probably wind up playing 15-20 minutes a game in the scenario of people believing Doucoure should redshirt.

It went far beyond just shutting it down when it looked it looked like it was not going to happen. There was a group of posters who said even the possibility of him reclassifying to 2017 was something that people were just making up and were weirdly angry anytime the possibility was raised.

I would blame them.

Physically bigger, Johnson has a wider skill set today than Doucoure by a lot.

There potentially have been two situations / forms of student status that are possibly being mixed here -

(1.) "Enrolled' - which would be officially entering into the University as a matriculating student - this would involve some level of formal "acceptance" into the university and would be starting the official clock on his college student career and officially binding him on some level to the University

(2.) "Taking Summer class or classes" - just like any other high school student who might be interested in securing some college level credits - which (if properly selected) can also count toward fulfilling their high school graduation requirements. This would not start any clocks - would not be a part of a formal admissions process &would not yet formally link the student to the university for 'eligibility ' purposes.

I do not know (I do sense that several 'somebodys' do know) if the reality is #1 , #2 or simply none of the above ...

It is also not known as to how problematic the NCAA Clearinghouse process may be in this case - it could be a miserable nasty rock fight - or it could be a very simple & straightforward "OK - take one more history and one more English class - get at least a C+ in each and you are ready to roll "

The optimist in me wants to think that what ever plan of action has been put forth and is in process - it was triple verified & has near 100% probability of smoothly & swiftly coming to fruition - and that all will be known soon.

Good post. Also note that BK pretty much said this was a done deal (assuming this is what he was talking about), which to me says that everything is going fine with the clearinghouse and its just a matter of time.

Looking at 2017-18 ONLY....

We need a 2/3 that can put the ball in the basket BADLY.

Not going to say what should be done with the roster, just my opinion that next year's success was contingent on getting a body this year that can score.

I wouldn't manage the roster to maximize 2017-18 performance so i trust the staff will do what is right.

Baker will most likely be the newcomer to add the most offensive production.

Pretty much this ^^^

According to Krossover.com he played in five games at Peach Jam scoring a total of 24 points while making 11-of-26 FG attempts and had 22 rebounds. He never scored more than nine points in any of the Peach Jam games (in one game he only had one point, four rebounds, three assists and three turnovers. He did not block any shots at Peach Jam.

I'm not sure why D1 Circuit didn't have any stats for him because he did play. I just watched Doucoure's tagged plays in the game against Expressions Elite on 7/14/17.

Enrollment now really isn't the concern since he doesn't have to be enrolled today to play this year....he just has to be in school at some point during early September.

A friend of mine is pretty confident he's not enrolled. Said there's no way they would've kept it this secret

The other factor that hasn't been brought up is he qualified ?

Does he have his core and his test score ?

If you're playing hoops all summer I doubt he was taking additional HS classes to get this done .

Personally to me the biggest upside to this if he is here is that he is off the market.

Trying to read between the lines here.

Assuming "Option 2" above, it's possible that Doucoure was attending classes during Summer Session I or Session II that would help him fulfill HS requirements to enroll as a true freshman in September. In that scenario, BK's "in a couple weeks" might have meant that he was simply awaiting confirmation that certain Session I classes were approved through the clearinghouse, or just awaiting completion of one or more Session II courses (one section finishes up on 8/4 and another on 8/16).

If he's using the RU Summer Sessions to satisfy clearinghouse HS requirements, that might allow him to enroll for the start of the fall semester.

Doucoure is not currently enrolled at Rutgers.

It's a waste of time to read between lines that are supposition to begin with.

As I've said before, it's not some stealth thing we are trying to sneak past someone. When it's time to announce who the player is, there will be plenty of fanfare.

Can anyone read between the lines of his post?

Sounds like he's saying the impact player hinted at isn't Doucoure but the fans will be happy with who it is. Now I have no idea who it might be. The suspense is killing me!

The suspense has dragged on a few weeks now and its now August. Its amazing to me that the "mystery player" has't been revealed. With all the sharp minds on this board, I figured would we see some possible names, some really good guesses and Scangg is spot on, the suspense is killing all of us!!!
