GREAT Coaches do remarkable things with not such great players. These Coaches have the ability to inspire kids, reach them, teach them, organize them, proper scheme them and get the best out of them.AND that is GOOD for the Kids,GOOD for the Team,Good for the Fans,Good for the Program and Good for the COACH.:football:

Talent level is more than adequate to compete in all games and win most (6-8) with the right coaching.

That was not a great PSU team. It was a winnable game as was WSU. Could be 3-0 heading into Kansas.

We have a low pedigree coaching staff and they are performing to their status. Simple as that.

So if Franklin was our coach and the teams were all the same, we win at PSU Saturday? Right

Always been the case.

Some people have no clue.
We were overmatched on both lines.
Having Lombardi as coach wouldn't have mattered.

I can't believe our line talent isn't comparable to Temple's. They weren't overmatched. In fact, Penn St. looked overmatched.

It is about coaching and talent. One without the other won't get it done.

No Old Man we were not outmatched on both lines. Coaches are not playing to the strength of the team. The O-line if coached properly is better than adequate. They meet all the measurables the problem is no one plays with passion, that is coaching. D-line again technique. Not a single swim move, spin or an attempt to get off a block, Just seem to be out coached week to week

Why can't you believe Temple is comparable to our line?

It starts and end with matchups at the middle position....our center had huge problems...whereas their center had an easy day at the office with our guys.

Sorry, but that's what my eyes saw of the game.

I agree. Temple is comparable to our line and they did not have a problem. That tells me it is something else, perhaps scheme and coaching.

Kapuna,
We'll just have to agree to disagree.
You say coaching...I say Lomabrdi couldn't have helped our lines...the play at center is affecting the whole line and protection...he's just not a center...it took Bujari 2 years to settle in at center...maybe the same for Nelson

"Passion," Heart, Toughness, Desire, Drive, Sense of Urgency, and good fashioned Guts, insert any of those words into this teams identity, and we don't lose last Saturday. They(Penn State), just wanted it more. And, considering the matter of fact, flippent attitude of this coach in the post game, it's no wonder that the players display similar qualities.
Of course the Coach matters! Someone mentioned Lombardi, and how he couldn't have succeeded with this team. I say BULLSH*T! Those Packers would have run through a wall for Lombardi! These kids wouldn't pick up litter for Wilson.

Coaching isn't helping - at all - but we lost 3 guys with a TON of starts/experience, on the OL, so I don't know why anyone expected better to be honest. Not too thrilled with the depth either, regardless of how "great" guys look in practice, against our D, sorry.

Every team loses 3 guys with tons of starts/experience per year. Rutgers is the only team that I have ever seen that uses that as an excuse. Next man up. The problem is the scheme and coaching.

Not to mention 4 starters due to suspension/arrests.
You're right...don't know what some of us were expecting...just being fans I guess.

Do you think any of the very good to excellent college coaching staffs wait for 2 years for a center to play at an acceptable level?

Even with the losses, everyone playing has a decent pedigree coming into Rutgers. If they are consistently not ready to play, and we consistently get blown out, that has to fall on the coaches. Sure, its early now, and we will see how this season unfolds. But if, IF, we get blown out, AGAIN, by the 4 best teams on our schedule, that's on the coaching staff. There is plenty of talent to be competitive in these games. Even with PSU, it is not so much the loss, its the fact that we never had a chance at any point in the game.

I Agree. The fact that we were not competitive has nothing to do with lack of talent. It has to do with the preparedness and coaching of the talent.

Right on point. And it doesn't just go for RU, whenever I see a team cranking out bottom of the FBS stats and not so horrible recruiting I say that 100% a coaching staff issue.

Take our scoring defense since the dynamic duo of Cohen/Rossi took over: ranking of 80s or worse since 2013 (so pathetic - screw those guys, seriously).

Oh, we don't have the players you say?

Ranking in 2012 with Robb Smith: 4

Coaching matters more than most understand in CFB, especially for the non-elite programs.
