Was off by a year or so. Didn't mean to include Young, who was clearly the best RU coach ever. Pike is 2nd IMO.Nope. Tom Young was coaching 40+ years ago
It'll be very disappointing, but not a career killer, IMO, and there's simply 0.0% chance Pike will or should be fired this year if we don't make the NCAAs.You are underestimating the national embarrassment this will cause the program if we don't make NCAAs, or even worse, finish at bottom of conference. It simply cannot be tolerated with 2 top 5 NBA draft picks. Pike has to be let go if this is what happens.
If so who is the replacement and there is no need to worry about ticket sales so why bother were respected now just in different ways than winning. He needs to be fired.
Great we lost because Pike won’t change his D and gets beat by 5 out all the time. Happened yesterday again. Inferior teams exposing Pike and he’s too stubborn to adjust. Will continue to lose but hey it was a fun gameOne of the best games I’ve ever been to. Started off with some friendly trash talk with the ND fans near us. By the second OT, we were all holding each other up. All hugs and handshakes on the way out.
And it helps that ND went on to beat a 6 seed in Alabama and lost to a Texas Tech team that was in the top 10-15 for a good portion of the season.

My first few years of marriage, i was a admittedly a great husband. Earned my money by being aggressive, protecting my house, adopted a few pitbulls to defend my home. Hired a good landscaper. I wasn't perfect, but i was still learning to deal w everything. My pretty attractive wife had just gotten out of a bad marriage, co- dependent abusive relationship - so I seemed like the second coming Jesus to her.
Flash forward 10 years. Most of my grown children are out of house, good careers. Wife has aged well , a milf. Got some money in the bank. Im not as energetic. Lost a few jobs. Forgot to pay some bills. Ok. But, hired best house cleaner & pool guy.
Ive grown sort of comfortable & complacent. Pitbulls gone. Now have AKC ribboned beautiful snickerdoodles. Last week, I visited my uppity friends in Hamptons. Hate the drive, but relented. Feel asleep in ez chair. When i awoke i, i was stunned. Saw all my buddies having their way with my wife right in front of me. I was paralyzed & poorly motivated to do anything. She also didn't seem terribly upset. On the way home , she told me she wants a divorce & i don't blame her. Drove all that way to watch her get abused & i just sat there. It was almost as bad as watching the RU bball game.

It will most definitely be a career killer. It’s just a matter of when. It'll be very disappointing, but not a career killer, IMO, and there's simply 0.0% chance Pike will or should be fired this year if we don't make the NCAAs.

Did anyone ever think that talent overcame coaching during those years? I truly want to like pike but I think back to some of our better years and question a lot of things.I have loved Pike since the day he got here. Great representative for the school, class act, and he has succeeded in getting us to the next level to get into the NCAA's. With that said, the man has finally been exposed for what he is: he is very good at teaching man-to-man defense but is clueless to a fault in his inability to understand how the Dan Hurley's and Buzz Williams of the world not only teach offense but emphasize exposing other teams defensive weaknesses.
As has been said by several posters here, it appears that Pike went into the portal to bring in some good 3-point shooters like Hayes and Martini. But Pike's inability as well as Brandin Knight's inability to teach offense with high and low ball screens, more cutting, and yes, even like Princeton-type pick and roll, seem foreign to these coaches. Top coaches understand how to run plays and get their 3-point shooters involved, and we see nothing of the kind under Pike. Why bring them here if you're not going to exploit the other teams' weaknesses? Like him or not, but under Hurley, don't you think Hayes and Martini would each get at least 4-6 open looks per game for them to knock down threes?
In addition, I've been hollering from the rafters that as good a defensive coach that Pike is, he is also too damn stubborn to switch to zone D when it's obvious he doesn't have the horses on the floor to implement his kind of grind it man-to-man defense. Pike more than understands quality zone defense, whether it's a 2-3, 3-2, 1-2-2, or even a matchup zone. Throw some different looks at the opponent. Keep them off-balance and guessing. DON'T let them get comfortable doing their thing. Make their lives miserable. How the hell did Pike allow Princeton to end up forcing Martini to guard Lee not once but at least on four separate occasions???? After Martini and Rutgers were burned once, why didn't Pike switch up immediately to a zone? Why keep doing the same man-to-man bullshit and getting the same bad results?
Now, going back to what I said at the start of this post, I love Pike and what he has done for the program, but this season so far has exposed his inability to teach offense and his stuborness at not switching to zone when we need shooters like Martini and Hayes out there getting their 3-point looks, when the two of them are both weak playing man-to-man defense.
For me, this season has soured me on Pike so far and has exposed the man and his shortcomings. If he can't figure it out with 2 lottery picks and two sharpshooters not getting their shots, then after this season, it may be time to find a top all-around coach to take us to the next level, who understands offense as well as defense. Pike is a one-trick pony, and it worked wonders under Geo, Caleb, Ron, and Miles.
But we are in the B1G for god sakes and have shown that we can pay top dollar for an excellent all-around coach. Our new AD must be able to recognize what's needed to take Rutgers basketball to the next level. After this season and next, it may be time to move on from Pike.
After watching your wife get gang-banged, you waited for her to tell you she wanted a divorce?

Guess my parable didn't work that well except for a wtf chuckle.
The point is. I don't post much despite having my own pent up frustration with these programs. This particular game astounded me. I could not process watching a Tiger team literally walz up & down court unguarded, unimpeded, unobstructed to score 80 + points on Pike team. ZERO resistance. The basketball version of a g---bang. Pike needs to be sued for divorce.
Wrong. The one who gets beat up & screwed is the team & fans who identify with team. Pike is the passive inadequate one who complies & agrees that he should be divorced after allowing such little resistance as to be scored on like that. It's ok. You're not be graded on your interpretationBut also doesn't the parable imply that Pike is the one asking for divorce?

If missing the NCAA three years in a row doesn’t make it fair to question job security — what does? I mean they take 68 teams.
I agree we are stuck with him for another few years. It'll be very disappointing, but not a career killer, IMO, and there's simply 0.0% chance Pike will or should be fired this year if we don't make the NCAAs.
Exactly . These guys have been in position to win almost every game. We are scoring enough points to win games. The defense and rebounding must get better.Pike deserves some criticism for sure, but other than maybe at OSU, he has put our guys in a position to win every game.
I guess when Ace went up tip-in JMike’s shot, Pike should have yelled, “Don’t goaltend that!” Jeez.
We’re scoring more points than any other Pike team since he got here, and we still complain he doesn’t run an offense.
Defensively and rebounding-wise we suck this year, but surely we can agree that Pike has been phenomenal as a defensive-minded coach.
For years some fans complained that we needed to play in more neutral-site games and tournaments. This year we’ve had plenty of that, and now the complaint is yeah, but we never should have chosen those particular opponents.
Really?
Anyway, I’m not giving up on Pike or the team.

Yeah. No one thought we needed that this off seasonIf you only had a nice rim protecting big man to keep your buddies away from your wife's hoop. Alas...
We’re scoring more points because we have two elite talents. Rutgers offense ranks 67th in the country via Kenpom with those two lottery picks. Not good enough.Pike deserves some criticism for sure, but other than maybe at OSU, he has put our guys in a position to win every game.

Position to win? Cmon we are playing one possession games vs Kennesaw St, Notre Dame, Seton Hall, Princeton. Look up those teams NET rankings, they aren’t good. If that’s our expectations, to have a chance to win against those team then maybe the people who say we don’t belong in the Big10 are right. Let’s move to the NEC and compete with St. Peter’s every night.Exactly . These guys have been in position to win almost every game. We are scoring enough points to win games. The defense and rebounding must get better.
Why did you leave out Alabama and Texas A&M in the one possession games and their Nets of 10 and 20., To fit your thought process. We can play with the top teams on the country because our offense lets us compete at that level with elite players. Unfortunately we have had enough offense in all those games to win except the subpar Seton Hall entire game. Unfortunately , we have maybe the worst defense of the Pike era and close to the worst rebounding team of the Pike era. Pike being a defensive guy I believe , he never thought we would be this bad defensively and on the boards. Or something he couldn’t fix . He also doesn’t have a legitimate rim protector for the first time coaching here which covered up bad man to man defense in the past. But he is stubborn and refuses to switch defenses to get other teams out of their comfort zones. He had a game plan to limit Princeton made threes , which didn’t work , but almost demanding his players not leave their man. The lack of help defense and rotations was totally missing because the players were following his game plan. Pierce got the ball with 10 seconds and although JMike was close he didn’t try and double Pierce and left Jordan undersized to cover Pierce. No doubling , allowing Lee to create 4 mismatches without trying to get the ball out of his hands and let someone else to make a play. He has to start making adjustments in game ( change defenses or who is guarding who ) when he sees the other team getting their offense too easily. He has not because his stubbornness of living and dying with man to man defense and his mantra , we get stops. But we don’t this year and he has to realize it , when it happens in game , and adjust. It has been the difference between winning and losing and being 11-1 right now.Position to win? Cmon we are playing one possession games vs Kennesaw St, Notre Dame, Seton Hall, Princeton.
