We don’t want the Mayo Bowl!
You think a bowl game on 12/26 is better for Rutgers? We don’t want the Mayo Bowl!
Anything is better than the 1st week in January unless it’s the CFB Playoffs. You think a bowl game on 12/26 is better for Rutgers?
Anything is better than the 1st week in January unless it’s the CFB Playoffs.
And Phoenix is warm unlike Charlotte
Why would you not want the Mayo bowl?We don’t want the Mayo Bowl!
Stupidity?? 🤣Why would you not want the Mayo bowl?
I'm off on the 26th (and the entire week after that). I'm not off on the 3rd. It's really that simple for me.There is no comparative issue whatsoever with first week of January in terms of fan travel. If your arguing people went away for the holiday week and won’t want to travel again, well those people wouldn’t have been available on the 26th either. Very few people are going to give up Christmas for the Rate bowl across the country. Some will - but it won’t be a big number. A lot of fans would get in the car or book a last minute flight to Charlotte.
This is significant. Many are off Xmas week and would have to take time off for Charlotte.I'm off on the 26th (and the entire week after that). I'm not off on the 3rd. It's really that simple for me.
Not sure why you want to give up part of Christmas and pay $1000 per flight to AZ.Why would you not want the Mayo bowl?
Bingo.I'm off on the 26th (and the entire week after that). I'm not off on the 3rd. It's really that simple for me.

At some point that will be passe too.Look - I should add that there is a small contingency of the fan base who would go no matter where and when the bowl game is. Hats off to them but the reality is - they are not the majority. Not close. With the playoff structure, these lower tier bowls are relegated to even more of an exhibition style than before. That’s why RU nation should be thankful there is a Pin Stripe bowl option every couple years. We aspire to be a family-oriented program and a local bowl game at Yankee stadium is helpful in this respect from an image perspective. There were tons of families there to support RU last year. They were easy to spot. Lots of kids in KC red and yellow Pacheco Jerseys. I sure hope the BIG keeps that tie in.
We’re not getting those types of fans anywhere but the Bronx and this year that’s out, but I still think we’d get more support at a drivable venue.
At some point that will be passe too.
I went to all three. Two in the Delta with family.
Next time, we'll see. Probably not.
We travelled very well to many bowl destinations including Phoenix in the past. So your premise is flawed. No it’s not significant at all - your really just talking about taking one Friday off - during a 2 day work week (New Years day is Wednesday). Maybe even a half day as it’s only an hour and a half flight away. A cheap flight at that.
Once again - I’m not saying zero fans will go to Arizona, but the point still holds that whether it’s a workday for you or not, very few people are going to drop (or significantly alter) their Christmas plans to spend $1000 on a ticket to Phoenix to watch a glorified exhibition game. The fans who are die hard enough to do this likely wouldn’t hold back on putting in for that Friday either (of the 2 day work week).
The last bowl in Phoenix was the first bowl after a long drought. We travelled very well to many bowl destinations including Phoenix in the past. So your premise is flawed.
Who really went besides us and fans of the opponent? No it won't “pass”. Do you know how many potential family supporters we have in the Tri-State area? There’s no other college football program nearby to support. It’s a local event on a day when not a lot is going on. We’ll always have good attendance that’s relatively overweighted by families (as compared with frat like groups planning road trips to other venues - that’s great too, except the count just isn’t that good when giving Up Christmas is required).
Nobody is saying that’s the only bowl we should ever play in. Let’s do better than 6/6-7-5 and go to a bunch of other cool places on days that don’t require cancellation of Christmas plans. No matter how hard you try to make a case (I know some folks really hate football at Yankee stadium), that bowl tie in is a net positive for us as a program vs. Detroit and Arizona (on 24th / 26th). Unless we’re getting better tie ins to replace all of those.
That’s also why they have the variety clause in the mix. It’d never be an every year thing anyway.
No.. really most will be need to be taking 2 days off: Thursday and Friday. No it’s not significant at all - your really just talking about taking one Friday off - during a 2 day work week (New Years day is Wednesday). As someone mentioned they have been consistently bowling for a while now.Can someone explain why the Mayo would want Minny over RU? RU beat them handily and they had a better conf record so that's a push. Wouldn't it be very reasonable to assume RU would bring more fannies into the seats. I don't know about eyeballs on TV.
This...Jan 3rd is a Friday, Can fly out that morning and enjoy the weekends assuming you are off Sat & Sun, vs rushing out on the 26th, and paying an extra $650Not sure why you want to give up part of Christmas and pay $1000 per flight to AZ.
Why? Isn’t the game at 3:30 on Friday in Charlotte? The flight isn’t even an hour and a half.No.. really most will be need to be taking 2 days off: Thursday and Friday.

Are you saying there is more of walk up at the Pinstripe because Rutgers is one of the teams playing?
It was also on the 27th. That is vastly different from the 26th.The last bowl in Phoenix was the first bowl after a long drought.
We will see......
Point to a well traveled game played on the 24th or the 26th. The last trip to Phoenix was on the 27th. It’s not remotely the same. One requires skipping Christmas. The other doesn’t at all.We travelled very well to many bowl destinations including Phoenix in the past. So your premise is flawed.
They don’t have to be Rutgers fans to be wearing red.In our section there were tons of kids. Not all of them even in Rutgers gear. A lot of them wearing Pacheco jerseys but some in regular clothes. It’s something to do. As long as the weather isn’t awful, people go and take their kids.
They don’t have to be Rutgers fans to be wearing red.
I bet the one’s wearing Pacheco jerseys had some sort of connection too.
All I’m saying is the extra attendance at the Pinstripe when we play is because of us. I really don’t think the casual fan is going because we’re playing. Or considers us the local team to support.
Realistically you have to leave on the 25th. Otherwise you risk spending all that money and missing the game entirely. What if your flight is delayed. Things happen.This...Jan 3rd is a Friday, Can fly out that morning and enjoy the weekends assuming you are off Sat & Sun, vs rushing out on the 26th, and paying an extra $650
Yes - including extremely casual “fans” who will tune in when they happen to be home. Not only the ones on this forum who plan weekends around watching our games where possible. Fans from both groups go to the Pin Stripe bowl when we play in it.I believe what PSAL is saying is that more Rutgers fans, with families, are likely to go to a bowl game at Yankee Stadium if the weather is decent. Minimal travel costs and makes for a fun Rutgers day. My family of 4 and a plus 1 went to Pinstripe. We had a great time. RU bus in was super easy. Billy's was great. Beating Miami was great. Great bowl experience with little cost/effort. If it's the Rate Bowl this year, it will be just me. That's the correlation I believe he's referring to. Lots more Rutgers folks will go to Charlotte than Phoenix. That's not debatable.
