I keep hearing how these guys are a team to watch. I keep hearing how good of a coach Kill is. Im not seeing it. They have beaten some down teams and have been pounded by the good teams. Not impressed with the B1G West by any means, especially Minnesota.

Have to disagree....i was impressed by what I saw last yr....I always underestimated them but with the shortage of local talent we gotta watch them!! I respect Kill after overcoming health issues...East is tougher but no easy teams in the B1G...we'll see this year?? Maybe I'm wrong!?!

They are a solid team like us. Expect them to win 6 to 8 games but they are always right there to make that next step. Not an easy team to play against

Except for one game against UM, there's none of the totally lopsided blowouts against the top of the pack conference teams. That's the direction I was to see RU go in the next two years while stealing a win or two in games we are the underdog.

exactly. They are very much like us, except we have been doing it more consistently for a longer time. Coach Kill is below .500 in his time at Minnesota.

After Kill came in, they watered down the schedule, including buying out a series against UNC. They have started to go in the opposite direction, including opening up on Thursday night against TCU this year.

Kill has done a really nice job building a tough football team. There isn't an abundance of talent and skill players in Minnesota, but the Gophers have developed a very physical brand of offense and defense, emphasize running the ball, and have an opportunistic defense. More talented teams can beat them, but they bring it each Saturday and at least make it tough on their opposition.

I don't think the ceiling is super-high for the program due to the challenge of getting real skill players up here, but there is no reason they can't be like Iowa was for all those years, which is a blue collar, tough team.

Not if you exclude his first season there when he took over a 3-9 team. He will probably be over .500 after this season ends. The biggest knock in my mind is that he has never won a post-season game as a college head coach. He was 0-5 in the FCS playoffs with Southern Illinois, 0-2 in bowl games with Northern Illinois, and 0-3 in bowl games with Minnesota.

this is the impression many people have. Maybe its the cold weather out there or maybe its the talent of Cobb, but they haven't been all that great rushing over the last few years. In Kill's 4 years, they haven't had a top 25 rushing attack, averaging 47th in rushing. Considering how not existent their passing game is, you would figure the rushing stats to be much better.
Their defense over that time averages 47th and hasn't had a top 25 year.
In conclusion, Minnesota is a decent team. We have played against and beaten teams with much better rushing attacks and much better defenses.

I want these guys bad! can anybody tell?

A badger s should be able to take care of it.

I think of them as much more of 'three yards and a cloud of dust' running team, then like Wisconsin which gashes you 15 yards at a time. When playing well, they use the running game to control the clock and keep their defense fresh...effectively shortening the game and trying to wear you down. Minnesota is far from a powerhouse, but I do think Kill has installed a degree of toughness to the team and that they generally get as much out of the talent they have as you would hope for.

Didn't see enough to have an opinion.

Could it be they're the kind of team that doesn't wow you by doing anything spectacularly well. They're just solid all around and don't beat themselves?

This is exactly what Minny is. I've seen it first hand the last two years when they beat Nebraska. They just don't screw up. They don't have all the talent, but Kill reminds me of a lesser Bill Snyder. The guy squeezes all the talent he can out of the players. If you beat yourself, (which Nebraska did all the time with Pelini) Kill will beat you.

I'm somewhat surprised Nebraska didn't make a run at him after we fired Pelini. Kill will retire at Minnesota IMO, especially if they get the facility upgrade they've been promised. I think they could pass Iowa and be at that consistent 7-10 win season.

Their recruiting this year is going pretty good. We stole one from their back yard last weekend. 5.7 3 star slot WR JD Spielman (adopted son of Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman). I thought he was gunna be a Gopher. Glad we got him.

So, in 2013 they had conference wins against Northwestern, Nebraska, Indiana and Penn State and in 2014 they had conference wins against Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue, Iowa and Nebraska. It seems to me they're doing pretty well..
