(Old Thread) OT: NCAA College Football Games Thread 11/5-11/9 Tues-Sat

Utah struggling this year up 14-10 on undefeated BYU in the holy war.

Bad face mask call there on BYU…that was a phantom facemask as opposed to the one that was real in the LSU game.

Colorado would be tied for first place in the B12 if BYU loses this one

Some rumors Whittingham retires after this season too even if on a somewhat sour note. Scalley has been HCIW also.

BYU wins the holy war on a last second FG to win it 22-21 and remain undefeated. Controversial holding call on Utah on 4th down which would have sealed the game, kept the game winning FG drive alive. BYU still had to finish the drive but that was a cheap holding call when I see the replay of it. But I'd say BYU also got a phantom facemask call in the first half which turned a sack to a first down and kept a drive for Utah alive which ended up as TD for them. Mark Harlan the Utah AD made some scathing comments after the game.

Dockery passed on an interesting comment broadcasting the Indiansa Mich game. 10 out of 11 Indiana defensive starters transferred
Was at this game so will re-watch, but what is interesting and the talking heads don’t know since IU was bad last year, was that LAST season, in ‘23, the IU starting D was also made up of 10 of 11 transfers…albeit 10, DIFFERENT transfers this season. Most of last season’s guys who transferred in left when Allen got fired.

Crazy times in college football with all this unlimited movement.

As of now it's BYU and Colorado in the B12 title game. Colorado has a doable schedule with a struggling Utah offense and Ok St. Kansas could actually be the tricky one. Good win over ISU yesterday and every single game they lost this year has been less than a score.

Your top player or receiver Donoven McCulley went into the portal last year right? And he ended up coming back to IU instead and is back in the portal now because he's not a big contributor and getting much playing time.

Transfers can be helpful but it take good identification and some luck too. It's not a guarantee that it will work every year, take a look at FSU and the transfer jackpot last year compared to this year. They're not unusual in that respect either.

Michigan needs a TD now but I don’t know why IU didn’t bleed more clock. They have plenty of time….essentially 4 timeouts they have

20-15 IU
^^^^THIS!!!^^^^

Me and everyone around us was saying the same thing. After the UM “injury” to stop the clock, saving their TO’s, the play clock was re-set to 40 as it should be and game clock re-started. Rourke could have let another 25 seconds run off…very strange.

Ralph D Russo is incorrect about UConn. They are 7-3, not 7-2. They are 0-3 against P4 competition, 7-0 outside it.

Great points.

Also, of note, IU’s highest paid NIL player in ‘23, Jaylin Lucas, who was totally mis-used last season by the fired in-season OC, Walt Bell, left for FSU, got hurt early and been out for the year.

Correct on McCulley too, who from all reports was IU’s top NIL earner this season, or at the very least of those who returned. He’s a great talent, great athlete, but one of those guys who has been so much more athletic than others growing up, but not the hardest worker. Game 1 vs FIU, he wasn’t starting because Cig didn’t think was working hard enough on blocking. Gets concussed in that game (with no call for an obvious targeting). Then sits Wk 2, gets back for only 1 play at UCLA that garners a DPI in the end zone. Still running 2nd team by end of September, catches a Td vs MD and leaves to save a year of eligibility. I’m sure he will be well sought after in the portal. I won’t be surprised if he ends up at Louisville with Brohm, who recruited him hard while at Purdue when the kid was still a qb.

TT wasn’t too happy with B12 officials either in that Colorado game.

McGuire already had blasted the officials's performance in his postgame scene, lambasting the crew for missing at least five facemask penalties and openly questioning how the officials had whistled a controversial targeting call against the Red Raiders defense for a hit on Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Yea posted the clips of it above. But Utah benefited from a phantom facemask in the first half that led to a TD for them so I take it as it evens out.

I wouldn’t say the Utah hold was phantom but it was cheap ticky tacky one which I don’t think you should call. You could call PI or defensive or offensive holding on so many plays if you’re gonna call stuff like that.

Norvell isn’t going anywhere so what changes?

Coordinators and some staff?
He’s been told he’s got 2 years to fix things, but that’s assuming a win and competitive win in the next 2 games

Money is there for the buyout and yes, significant staff changes will happen

That would be 60M+ for Norvell and then you have the staff buyouts as well and then the new staff too.

I’d be surprised if they let him go this year year but we’ll see.

I’d be surprised as well
But there’s a lot of other issues at stake here

One being how much money they’re losing due to this, and two, you have Alabama coming in next year and under no uncertain terms can you get blown out in a brand new, refurbished Doak Campbell Stadium, in front of the national audience

You could get blown out with a new coach too lol or just lose as well. Riley and Kelly are 100M dollar coaches and they haven’t panned out to the level expected yet.

I agree, and nothing is guaranteed, but what has happened this year is inexcusable on every measureable level
